My old PC an Intel core i5 4460 and a GTX 1050 TI. It can’t even run Fortnite.😤 I I’m going to turn it into a server and use a new PC, although I don’t know what exactly what to get. Also, I need to upgrade my old, soon going to be server PC, my brother‘s PC and my dad‘s PC all under $1000 USA 🇺🇸. I converted the format of the document for everyone to use.
#New PC: what do I get?
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
It is difficult to upgrade old builds
Old cpu platforms leave limited options for improvement on the table honestly
I know, but I’m willing to do whatever it takes to improve my system
Its more of a money problem
I'm sure theres upgrades you can make to each of these with 1k
I dunno if its gonna be worth trying to split that money across multiple machines thi
I’m gonna try

dad's can probably wait a while, but here:

i can't do anything about your brother, i have no clue what he's running rn
He is upgrading from the GTX 1660 super I am getting, to the RTX 3070. He also has a i7 9700 Also I prefer new on Amazon
you're not gonna be able to split everything between them while buying new.
All new of course the fourth GEN processor is gonna be bought used on Amazon
I just want to know if everything was correct on my image
you aren't gonna have enough money buying everything new.
that's what i'm trying to say.
I don’t care if I go over my budget as long as I get it to work
why aren't you ok with used?
it's not as much as a landmine as people make it out to be
hell half of my system is used and it works perfectly
the only problem i've had myself was with a new part lmao
My dad is paying for it. I can’t convince him otherwise that used is OK.
have you tried at all or no
Cause sometimes it ends up broken
...if you don't pay attention to the listing
Or maybe it’s been sitting there since the crypto mining boom
I don’t
I put ? on the ones I was unsure about on the main image
And I put * for the reasons why
@marsh shale
That is not correct I don’t have that GPU and I want as cheap as possible
Also, why do you like G skill and WD so much
I like teamgroup because the prices are low, but good
@tribal yew
@tribal yew
you reusing anything from your system?
Not upgrading that much.
it doesn't state if you're reusing anything from either your own build nor dads build
Yes, everything except for these parts
so you have the 1660 then ?
I forgot the list but my dad has an 8100 CPU and integrated graphics
In my brother’s PC right now, but it’s gonna change once my uncle gives me his 3070
so your bro gets to keep the 1660 and you get the 3070?
IDK how to convince him to upgrade to a 4070 TI super at 50 series launch but he’s worried about his AC bill
No
I thought his CPU was better
He needs a better CPU for gaming
@tribal yew should I get a 3600 or 5500 then? Because I don’t need as much.
Was going to give him the 3070 and I was gonna get the 1660 super
ok, well get a 5600x for both him and yourself as it's currently cheaper than a 5600
and no, never get a 5500
it's quite literally a weaker r5 3600
No, not for both of us
Don’t need to change his motherboard unless it doesn’t work which the 3rd RAM doesn’t because of a broken pin in the corner (but Micro Center said it was fine)
to get an r5 3600, you will need either a b450 or b550 mobo, and you can only get an r5 3600 secondhand, there is no new stock of it
Oh, OK
which tbh, if you can only get new for the cpu, makes an r5 3600 out of the question
5600 X for me
Well, my dad doesn’t trust old stuff and won’t buy it unless it’s a really low price
Like a fourth gen CPU thats for my rog
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, Cooler Master MasterBox Q300L MicroATX Mini Tower
But I want those exact SSD and RAM and motherboard, @tribal yew
I don’t use ethernet
overpaying on ram and mobo
and the mobo i selected is actually better, it also comes with wifi
Really that’s what the other guy told me to do
Cool!
But I’m not looking to get this now and the other one is full stock
I’m looking to get this for the winter holidays
Maybe Black Friday cyber Monday sale
i wouldn't bother with a sata ssd if you don't have one already, use the m.2 slots first, and the sn580 is ideal as a boot drive for your OS, allowing for the 2tb m.2 to be used for games/storage/whatever
false deals 90% of the time
What do you mean?
I like that idea so I don’t have to use my windows drive as the same one
prices be raised a week before things like black friday/cyber monday/prime day
it also means if your os crashes for any reason, you don't have to re-install everything
That happened last time when my ROG PC’s hard drive died
Does silicon power have AMD expo
What has the better CPU right now?
between mine and spooky's build it's the same cpu
I don’t want them to have a bottleneck
I want them to be GPU intensive
If I had to, I might get 12 Intel
you want the cpu to be always more stronger than the gpu, but also the bottleneck to any pc is the user
and tbh, the 1660 is better for your bro due to the cpu they're using
I’m gonna be gaming tho
Then I’ll swap PCs with him
why not build 2 identical 5600x builds instead?
and have your dad use the 9700 system while getting him a gpu to go with it and selling off the hp pavillion
the only thing's you'd keep and swap around would be the ssd/hdd's from each system
Because my dad still has to upgrade he’s out of storage and ram
I can’t my dad’s hard drive is full
Maybe I could give the old HP PC to my grandpa his PC is 15 years old 💀
@tribal yew
all up to you
I don’t wanna spend double
1k limit with possible overspend you said
Total for all three combined
you can claim back money reselling an 8th gen system via ebay/jawa
Or by selling my fourth GEN intel old pc system
Cause I was going to use one for a Minecraft server
i would use it to build 2 systems, and use ssd/hdd's from the systems you got to save some money there and then from that set your dad up with the 9700 build, sell on the 8th gen
the 4th gen is more than enough to be set up for a small minecraft server
4th gen system isn't worth more than $50 for resale use
And you don’t like the teamgroup ram I wanna have a SATA SSD
an 8th gen system you can sell for $100-150
It’s basically in mint condition except for some floor dust
still, this is all an 8th gen system is worth
Then I’m not selling and keeping it for my dad
the 9th gen system would be better tbh
Me and my brother game in Fortnite and Java Minecraft
both of which are pretty much cpu bound
especially as minecraft only uses 1-2 cores on it's own
Really?!
yeah, some games can be more cpu bound and some can be more gpu bound
Cool to know!
Do I even have two M.2 slots? Also, I was asking for SATA cause it’s cheaper for more money.
on a b550, pretty much most of them have 2x m.2 slots
one under a heatsink near the cpu, and one open to see at the bottom
Can I still get a SATA if I wanted?
you can do yes
Can you give me a new PC part picker list of the updated parts?
One for each
but i'd only do that once all m.2 drives are filled up
But doesn’t that go through a SATA port?
nope
SATA 2.5 inches does not go through NVME M.2 port 😤
I’m not gonna do that
with the mobo i selected you get to use all 4 sata ports alongside both m.2 slots
Ok
What PCIe GEN3 m.2 nvme SSD should I get?
the cheapest as long as it's not a qlc nand drive, and tbh there's cheap gen4 drives that makes going gen3 not worth it
What about GEN 3 for the hp. (which I’m keeping)
you can use a gen 4 in it, it'll just drop down to gen 3 speeds
What’s better for the price for hp?
what capacity size did you want for it?
1 tb for my dad and then my brother will give him his 4 TB hard drive (that he already has) as an upgrade
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Xy3NnQ/ cheapest good tlc drive
that's a 2tb drive
Oh
For my PC or for my dad’s
well you said 1tb for your dad, so
How about 1tb for both? Not playing cyberpunk or anything that scale.
this'll do it, even an mp33m though i'd go more for an mp44l in comparison
Would a i5 4790 or 4770 be able to work without a heatsink cause that’s what I want to upgrade on my ROG
get a cooler for it
Incompatible with the old case
Look up the model for proof there’s no spacing
Probably will need a LTT thermal pad
@tribal yew Do I need one?
nope, you could get a low profile cooler that'll fit it and it'll come with paste for it
Like I said that doesn’t even fit
Does it?
if you know what the layout is like, yes it will fit
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/xm22FT/ designed for lga1150 sockets
the 4790 = lga1150
I prefer ID cooling
You’re underestimating the highest and end of socket fourth GEN CPU
Does this work?
Thank you!
be wise to change the psu and mobo to the ones i suggested in the build i shown
Why? Won’t the prices go off sale soon
the mobo less likely, the psu on occassions, and there's a quality difference between the gx2 and an rm650
Yeah, I heard the GX2 is better
nope
gx2 is tier C speculative, where as the RM650 is tier A
I like cooler master I heard corsair has bad ram software
Oh
Ok now I know
Why do you want me to get that motherboard again?
cooler master has some good psu's and yeah icue is a pain but that doesn't do anything with their psu's
and the msi mobo is a better mobo over the asus prime
I like ASUS tho
OK but it says it has an older bios version that is not compatible with my CPU
Why do I need the SP ram again?
igmore that general warning, any new b550 will have an up to date bios that will work with the cpu
as for the sp ram, it's the cheapest to run and works straight out the box
you only ever have to enable xmp in the bios for it to run at it's speed
I was gonna get 3600 ram
no need
3600 cl18 ram runs the same as 3200 cl16, it doesn't actually offer any benefit over 3200mhz ram
Oh, also good to know
the specific 1660 doesn't matter, and as cheap as possible is gonna land you bad parts
sometimes but not always when it comes to cheap parts
1660 super
...most of the time
doesn't matter. it's free, that's all that counts
Don’t ever answered why you gave me WD and G-skill
quality parts
Teamgroup too
never had a good experience with them
Really?!
yh
So what motherboard again? @tribal yew @marsh shale you both have a different opinion on this and I know nothing
tbh it doesnt really matter
I need one with Wi-Fi though
between the prime and vdh, quality wise the vdh is the better board
I’ll go MSI it has more USB A ports
Even though I have DVI cables here
Wait, don’t I have to get a monitor? I’m going to use the monitor for my 1660s & 9700 pc not the new PC that I’m building
if you already have a monitor it doesn't matter
I don’t have one old one is broken
@tribal yew @marsh shale This work? https://www.amazon.com/Pixio-PXC243S-Supported-FreeSync-Esports/dp/B0BJ13N7LC
This isn’t the one that’s bad from an angle is it?
Does it have adaptive sync?
I was planning to get that one anyway.
Amazon.com: monitor 24 inch
Monitor budget is 125
monitors aren't my thing tbh
