currently have $500 hoping to get the rest of the price (~1650 after case fans, thermal paste, whatever else i might need) through birthday and christmas coming up.
Is there anything I'm particularly doing wrong for my first build? Do this run max settings on 1440p elden ring for example? Is the ryzen 9 9700x a bad choice?
mb thats supposed to be a ryzen 7 9700x, i chose it for the really low tdp which would let me either overclock it or just run it really cool (or quiet?) with the peerless assassin air cooler

the low tdp is quite deceptive, ryzen 9000 series isn't actually that much more efficient than the zen 4 65w parts, which are much cheaper as well
x3d is also more efficient still, so either waiting for the 9800x3d later this month or buying a 7800x3d now will make a lot more sense, especially with how much faster x3d is in games
also other things to point out, that motherboard is really bad, i'd recommend the b650m pro rs from asrock over it
and you don't need to buy thermal paste, the cooler already comes with some
