Basically my system won't turn on and the motherboard says it is the gpu. Is there any way it is something other then my GPU (even tho the pc worked with my brothers GPU) or is there any way I can test the gpu if I don't have another system that can handle my GPU (doesn't fit in brothers pc or power supply doesn't have the headers)? It is an rtx 3060 and I got it used so no warranty.

If there is no way to test it or it can't be the other parts I would appreciate a few recommendations for a new GPU around 300€, preferably an AMD one cause I will be running Linux and from what I have heard AMD GPUs are better on Linux then Nvidia GPUs.
6750xt or 7700xt if you want another amd gpu
though you really need to ay about your system's full specs
I had a Nvidia GPU previously
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700x
Ram: 32gb
Motherboard: idk Asus something
Storage: 2t. HDD and a 512gg nvme ssd
GPU: MSI gaming something rtx 3060
psu =?
do you have any other gpu's you can use?
As I said before I tested my PC with my brothers GPU and it worked
He has a GTX 1050 ti if I remember correctly
yeah, but to check if the 3060 is having an issue, if you can use a gpu in the top slot and the 3060 in a lower slot
you can use either gu-z or hwinfo to see if it detects it
Will it detect it if both power cables aren't connected?
nope, you need to make sure both gpu's get power
That will be a slight problem
The other GPU power cable for my power supply melted
I will figure something out
if that melted, you need a new psu as well
It melted like a year ago and it has been working fine since then
Wait
Maybe it melted again
i would not trust that psu with anything
Well I don't have the funds to get a new one rn
you have potentially killed the gpu using it
It melted cause I was using a daisy chain cable
At least that's what support told me
Cable is not melted
doesn't matter if a different sent hasn't melted
the fact the first lot has indicates an issue that you shouldn't be using the psu to begin with
Support said it should be fine
yeah, no, a melted cable happens when a short overloads a component and the current is to much for the cable
support was quite literally giving you bad advice
If it was the power supply can I get seasonic to send me a new one and money for a GPU since the power supply broke mine?
I'm booted and both gpus should have power
Do you know of anything for Linux that would show them?
not directly no, i know only for windows
Would nvidia-smi work?
maybe, i dunno
Currently Linux doesn't like having 2 GPUs
It detects it
Does that mean that the GPU is fine
???
quite possibly fine, though if you're getting no display with it, it could be a vbios issue
How do I fix that?
update the vbios for use with uefi
How do I do that?
OBLIGATORY WARNING: THIS CAN BRICK YOUR GPU. Always be careful when flashing a gpu bios, if you dont have backup hardware or a good idea of how to recover from a bad flash please don't try this.
nvflash tool: https://www.techpowerup.com/download/nvidia-nvflash/
gpuz: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/
3060 ti bios page: https://www.techpowerup...
Download English (U.S.) drivers for NVIDIA hardware - , , ,
The video shows it while only 1 GPU is installed
How do I do it when I have 2 installed
that's due to the person running the system primarily off the igpu on the cpu they're using, the same pricipal works with the gpu you want to do the bvbios update on is in a second slot
It didn't work
check the vbios is correct for the gpu you have
It is
You can see the page I downloaded it from in the background
It is the only one for a 12gb rtx 3060
not the only one
Wtf?
specifically towards your card
you tried using one for a gaming X instead of a gaming X trio
I don't see gaming x trios in the link you sent
I found it by looking at all the msi 12gb gddr6 card bioses
Still didn't work
Does this mean it is borked?
Still shows this with a bios from this link
I think my card has no bios for some reason
essentially wiped
Is there a way to get a new one on it?
nvflash mainly
can you take a pic of your gpu, just want to make sure it's as the box said
when you put it on the bottom did it look like this on the shroud?
Yes
https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/231189/msi-rtx3060-12288-210122-2try this one, it's got the closest device id
Got an error code this time
that's a better sign
the subsystem id is '1462 3903' and the device id is '10de 2504'
And they need to be the same?
so yours could actually be an lhr version of it
when its a normal (non-lhr) version device id = 10de 2503
So I need an LHR bios
yeah, which isn't easiy to find
yup
Fuck
I found a LHR version for the gaming x non trio version and 2 numbers are different in the subsystem id
But as far as I can tell everything else is the same
ventus 3x lhr bios you could try but i doubt it'll work
WE HAVE A WINNER
Should 8 try the gaming x non trio version since that might work better?
otherwise you could try the gaming x lhr
yeah
closest 2 bios's due to it being lhr
Also works
Gonna go with the gaming x one
okies, lets hope this works to fix it
Hwinfo detects it but not GPU z
Hwinfo detects it as a non trio card
subsystem id is what determins the card label
Should I try the other one?
can do
Did it work?
try a restart and see
Last time it didn't show the error
Hwinfo detects it but GPU z doesn't
Again
Neither does device manager
Can I ask someone to send me their bios if the have the same card?
yeah, just have to make sure it's an lhr one
sorry, cant do better dude
Tech chat told me to go to reddit so I made a post there and will go to sleep now hoping for a response in the morning
You have done more than enough
Thx for all your help
could this problem be caused by the psu?
psu would have fried the gpu completely, i've not heard of it causing a vbios issue
is the 6750xt or the 7600xt better?
6750xt
the 7600xt = rx 7600 with double the ram but same bus meaning it can't use all 16gb vram but only 8gb of it, it makes the 7600xt a failure of a product
