my friend described my room as sterile and sharp i dont know what to do about it but i 100% agree with her. looking for suggestions to make it not feel like a prison

Imo this setup doesn’t look sterile. It looks cozy. It has plenty of decorations and furnishings that make it your own. Some people think white looks bland, some don’t. It’s up to your preference. Personally, I’d love to have a room like this.

I also think colours are very up to personal preference, but maybe look at some inspiration online? ofc a full remodelling would be pricey but simple details like changing the light to a warmer colour (like yellowish) and putting some plants in the room would add a lot of life to it!

I think the light and cold colours make it feel quite 'sharp'

can also play around with warmer bedding colours (brown/green/blue) just to bring in some accent )

but my advice would really be to look at Pinterest or smt for inspiration, helped me a lot with my room too!

i never talked about the coolest part of this whole thing which is my server

it sits in the basement because its really loud

but its got my old pc cpu and 16 drives totaling about 30tb total

it runs unraid and has
r5 3600x
32gb
2x 10 gigabit sfp+ nics
2x 2.5 gigabit rj45 nics
7 4tb hard drives
3 1tb hard drives

all the spinning storage is in a array totaling 27tb excluding the 4 for parity

like i said it runs unraid and its purpose is as my primary nas and docker host. thers a couple containers on here most notably being a syncthing container tha connects to my laptop and desktop computer and syncronizes a 400gb folder that i keep on the desktop. inside this folder is where everything happens in my computers and where i keep everything important since the server keeps unlimited file versions of everything ever in the folder (which so far is about 4tb)

also a couple nginx instances (like 7 lmao) for the websites i host for my friends and myself

that one was for docker now for virutal machines but i also have a proxmox host i keep in my room for home assistant hyperion my tailscale exit node my ubuntu vm for whatever
this one i bought of goodwill for way too much its pretty bad and i would like to upgrade it at some point since i cant turn my lights on without this one

1tb m.2 for vdisks
250gb ssd for lvmthin stuff
also this one links to my network switch tower with 2.5 gigabit since i used to do iscsi drives on the unraid for vm vdisks (dont do that it was awful)

basically those two things the only things i like about my room

being able to copy files over the network at 10 gigabit is cool

i have to reset my array which means copying 15tb of data off, sorting through it then rebuilding a brand new array and copying everything back on its gonna take a month

i have 4tb drives in my array right now so i have to swap my parity which is super stressful so im going to make a offline copy before i install the new 12tb drives
