I built a pc recently and got windows 10 on it. My old pc has an m.2 ssd with windows/boot + some important files and programs.

Is there a way to move that ssd to my new pc so that windows is removed from it and only has the important files and programs? So I can use it as a storage drive. And would u be able to keep windows on that old pc as well?

And also what does formatting do?

Yeah, unless you backed up everything first. If you want to remove windows, you’ll need to format
