GPU: XFX SWFT RX 6800
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600
PSU: Seasonic focus GX 750W

Core clock won't get higher than 1175-1179. Checked VBIOS- All good, does not seem mined. Loaded a different VBIOS with the same results. Also flipped the switch on the GPU with the same result.
Nothing is limited in windows or amd adrenalin power wise
I am using two separate 8pin pci-e cables from the PSU to deliver power.(everything is plugged in properly)
GPU can handle 2400 OC + UV (900-920mV) + 2100 memory clock with fast timings.
On default settings it consumes about 125W tops.
The gpu is usable but i need to know what's wrong.
The performance is below what you'd see on other rx 6800s in Furmark, 3dmark steel nomad, superposition and Cyberpunk (both benchmark and regular gaming).

#

@mild dune

#

this is while running parsec and a web browser

mild dune
potent skiff
#

yep

#

seals on the back are intact

#

supposedly never used

#

don't think it's another GPU pretending to be a 6800 as it handles 2400 OC+UV quite well

#

no mining bios either

mild dune
#

Well the bios can always be reflashed back to stock and you’d never know. Let me do some searching

#

What mobo do you have btw?

potent skiff
#

b450 gaming x

#

gigabyte

#

still would it just have artifacts and crashes if it was mined and damaged during that?

#

i'd get the lower clock speed if it had a custom bios

#

don't think pci-e 3.0 would limit clock speeds

#

considering it can do 2400

mild dune
#

Go to your bios and set your PCIe link speed from “auto” to “gen 3”

My gb b450 was giving me 65% perf in my 2080 super way back in the day

#

I don’t think it’s related but humor me

potent skiff
#

sure

mild dune
potent skiff
#

Nope

mild dune
#

No prob, go try a benchmark

potent skiff
#

shit dude

#

haha

#

that was it

#

reached 2000 mhz

#

in furmark

mild dune
#

I AM THE BEST

potent skiff
#

you are great!

mild dune
#

have fun man

potent skiff
#

thank you so much!!!!

mild dune
#

No prob

odd coyote
#

Gigabyte really just needs to not be this ass

mild dune
#

(We all have gigabyte boards)

odd coyote
#

(false I just helped this tard build an asrock system)

#

Anyways gl with gamin bro, that issue plagued eso for ages till he figured it out

potent skiff
#

guys

#

i fucked up

#

i had the OC applied

#

reverting to default in amd adrenaline

#

sets me back to square one

#

@mild dune

#

@odd coyote

#

rip

odd coyote
#

Ripppp

#

Hmm

mild dune
#

Hmmmmmm

potent skiff
#

usually amd resets the OC on startup because of some windows update i can't uninstall anymore

#

no graphics driver crash or anything

#

so i didn't bother to check after restart

mild dune
#

Are you familiar with RED bios editor

potent skiff
#

not at all

mild dune
#

I want you to download your bios in GPU-Z, then open it in RBE. You can find the download from Igor’s lab or techpowerup

potent skiff
#

on it

mild dune
#

Post screenshots once you are viewing the tables of ur vbios

potent skiff
#

not supported

#

hmm

odd coyote
#

Eso says u might need to get morepowertools from igors lab for it

mild dune
#

Ya my bad RBE is the old one

potent skiff
#

OC limits?

mild dune
#

Did you find the software? Sorry I’m being vague I’m at work lol

potent skiff
#

same lol

mild dune
#

Shit that looks good.

potent skiff
#

yeah..

#

as far as i can tell anyways

mild dune
#

Can you run a 3dm timespy

#

I know it’s not gonna stress much but I want to see the results page

potent skiff
#

don't have it

#

steel nomad

#

is what i have

mild dune
#

It’s free if you have 3dmark on steam

#

Ok

#

Only thing I can think of is windows 11 power settings at this point

#

Make sure it’s all set to full perf

potent skiff
#

nvm i can run timespy

mild dune
#

Do it

potent skiff
#

tried high performance mode

#

gpu clock tops at 1170 in this one

mild dune
#

Why is it not plotting your gpu temp on that chart? The core just isn’t boosting

#

Can you toggle that graph at all if you still have it open?

potent skiff
#

yep

#

quite low

#

47 tops

#

at 99% load

mild dune
#

Can you reapply the OC? Also do you have another pc that you could put this card in to see if the behavior is consistent

potent skiff
#

don't have another PC but i can apply the OC and run the benchmark

mild dune
#

Ok 👍

potent skiff
#

which looks like this

mild dune
#

Can you run another timespy now?

#

Then show those 2 charts again

potent skiff
#

Yep on it

#

It’s a bit annoying that it takes time to run a cpu test too

#

And the demo

#

What do you think we’ll find out with this test?

mild dune
#

I want to see if your gpu is capable of running at normal clocks now. If it is, then we know it’s a driver/software problem and not a hardware problem

#

Have you used DDU before?

potent skiff
#

yep but this is a fresh windows install

#

no other drivers present before

#

with oc it reaches ~2200

#

57 degreees celsius

#

so with OC it's a slightly below average card KEK

#

336 USD

mild dune
#

Can you open event viewer and look for any errors related to gpu drivers or amd

#

I don’t remember which category they will appear under but you can figure it out I’m sure

potent skiff
#

can't see anything gpu driver related

mild dune
#

Also have you reset your bios settings to stock since you did the fresh install of windows?

It’s gotta be either the gpu hardware, or a bad bios setting from your previous install.

#

Or PSU? I’m trying to think of anything that hasn’t changed

potent skiff
#

bios was reset after the install

mild dune
#

Ok

potent skiff
#

PSU is brand new A tier

mild dune
#

So basically when you fresh install drivers the core speed can’t reach advertised speeds?

potent skiff
#

would secure boot/ TPM impact anything?

mild dune
#

No

potent skiff
#

yep

#

i could try DDU but i'm not feeling optimistic about it

mild dune
#

Can you DDU, restart, reinstall drivers from adrenaline, restart, and run timespy one more time. Don’t touch OC or anything.

#

Hell even reinstall Adrenaline

potent skiff
#

sure

#

safe mode mandatory i suppose

potent skiff
#

done with DDU

#

rip

#

so cooked hardware?

mild dune
# potent skiff

Yeah best you can do is try older drivers at this point. It’s either a really specific bug with the drivers and your version of windows, or hardware

#

Rip

potent skiff
#

hope it's software KEK

mild dune
#

You could make a bootable ubuntu usb and try to benchmark the card LOL

potent skiff
#

sure why not

#

but not right now

mild dune
#

Yeah, that’s all I got at this point sorry dude

potent skiff
#

no worries

#

thank you for your time and help!!

#

card still works great with OC

mild dune
#

On your timespy score graph there is a blip in your range that shows other people have similar scoring cards. Guessing you’re not the only one with this problem

potent skiff
#

shit i did not see it

#

yeah

#

but i scanned the web quite a bit before asking for help as not to waste anyone's time

#

but to no avail

potent skiff
#

any chance reseating the gpu would help?

mild dune
#

You can give it a shot

potent skiff
#

resize bar can't hurt, right?

mild dune
potent skiff
#

friend got a 6800XT second hand from the same guy which works as advertised

#

maybe i got a bad one

#

or maybe win 11 is messing with me

#

tried to run linux

#

but i couldn't get a benchmark to run haha

mild dune
#

Oh lol that’s fine. You can always install w10 and see if that changes anything

#

It’s a pita but I’m running out of ideas

potent skiff
#

windows 10 install did not help

potent skiff
#

Christ dude

#

im sorry for wasting your time

#

hope the puzzle was somewhat fun to you

#

you know what the issue was?

#

the bios switch

#

the first time i flipped it, it did not do anything and then i restarted, flipping it back

#

this time on windows 10

#

i flipped the switch

#

powered computer on

#

and win 10 gave me a notification about hardware changes and needing to restart

#

so i restart

#

1732

mild dune
#

Was it in like eco mode or something lol?

#

I thought the dual bios on those cards was used for normal perf and increased perf haha

potent skiff
#

yeah no idea
