#need help with ssd

the crucial mx500 is one of the highest performing 2.5" ssds that i know of
do you know its actual performance when read / writing?
yes but thats from them do you yourself have any experience with it
oh
i have 1 as a boot drive and it works great. boot times do take a small hit but i only boot once a day so i dont really care. i also have one as a vm storage drive in my server that i have had no issues
2.5 inch drives are really not a good choice anymore... Is there a reason you specifically want a 2.5 inch ssd?? @pearl vigil
well its more that i need it to have a sata connection and not an m.2 one as there isnt space
for anymore m.2
anything else you might suggest
How many m.2 slots are on your motherboard?
one exact
Ha
its a motherboard from 2017 ish
Oof
msi z390-a pro
Ngl may wanna look into upgrading from that before getting a bunch of data drives...
A couple 4tb sata drives would be more than the price of a new motherboard cpu and ram probably lol
well its not the performance of my machine thats the issue its that the hdd that i have are slow and outdated
im looking in total for something aroun 4 tb
not multible 4tb dives
You also have pretty limited connectivity due to the age of your pc
fuck my r key fml
Theres always the option of swapping out your single m.2 for a larger one
i could get an m.2 adapter for like 40 bucks
4tb m.2s have gotten a lot cheaper
Not really the same
Gonna be much much slower
thats a nogo peach the m.2 ive got in rn is the brains of the operation and the hassle of fixing eveything like that i cant be asked
still faster than a hdd and when i upgrade my motherboard cpu and gpu i can get a motherboad with more m.2 slots
Cant just transfer the stuff you need to keep onto the hard drives and just set up a new main drive?
I'll look at some sata drives still
cant be bothered im just looking for more reliable storage for games that have a good read write with dram
really appreciate it mate im from norway so wont garuante that il respond bfo tomorrow some time but thank you
Which is pretty necessary to use a sata ssd with any real speed
well price isnt the biggest problem
Just saying its kind of a waste yknow
but worstcase i could go for a singularr 2 tb drive
As soon as you upgrade your motherboard you are gonna probably regret spending so much on a sata ssd
Just saying
im just looking for better fperformance out of games i store on the new drive and 2 tb should be more than enough
and the upgrade for the rest of my pc wont be so soon unfortunately rn i have other prios so im looking for a cheap way to resolve the issues im having with games on my hdd being laggy and heavy to load
i have folks who can buy internatinally for me so dw about norway specific but what is the one in norway ?
For 420 usd or about 4300 kr
Thats a terrible price
yeah thats norway for ya
looks nice to live here but its all a facade
most likely gonna buy it in sweden or denmark and drive it up here myself
For an m.2 it would be the nm790 as the cheapest 4tb unfortunately, still about 3300 kr
I mean dont get me wrong that's a great ssd
Just not as great of a price vs some other countries
the reason im putting of upgrading my pc is cuz of the prices im planning on skipping up to a 14th gen intel i7 im at a 9700 rn
Too bad the Netherlands isnt close at all, they have a pretty nice pc market honestly
Wouldnt suggest 14th gen ngl
Been having lots of issues
Intel is kinda fucking up atm lol
so 13th is more stable?
all ik is after the things i heard about ryzen and kernel level voulnerabilities im unsure of it
No both 13th and 14th are having issues
I dont believe there are any issues with amd cpus at the moment, afaik that kernel stuff is old news
but point being im going for a huge skip and jumping up to ddr5 if possible for the longevity of the build
and n the intel ryzen race afaik is quite close
it says that there has already been bios updates to fix it on recent amd cpus, and its also a difficult to exploit thing too
