For just a few more dollars you don't need memory that runs over 6, 000 megahertz and I squeezed in a 7800 XT

upbeat cairn
#

if possible i'd recommend going for either an atx (rather than micro-atx) case, or a micro-atx case that moves the power supply to the front or top so that the gpu can breathe

FairPoint I'll have it fixed right away

#

There's one with an ATX case very similar teir very similar price

As rock is bad brand to buy motherboard from. Buy Asus or Gigabyte

fickle root
#

Is it ideal? No... but suggesting asus as a brand... is the dumbest thing you could possibly say

native swift
#

Asus releases bios updates for longest time and properly adopts all features

#

5 years into the future your windows will run smoothly

#

Asrock releases 1 or 2 bios update in 2 years

fickle root
native swift
#

I have 50 pcs mining and do bios updates all the time. Never happens

fickle root
#

regardless if you'd like to recommend a list go ahead.

native swift
#

Just switch to different brands and pick samsung ssd

#

Asrock's AM5 motherboards cook everyone

native swift
#

You guys must be trolling im outta here. Asus is a top tier motherboard manufacturer

The last several years have proven that ASUS is anti-consumer and lack serious quality control. Enough so, that we can no longer support the brand or allow them to be one of our trusted sponsors.

always buy the product, never the brand

companies change. good companies make bad products. bad companies make good products. everyone fucks up.

intel's the real joker at the moment 🔥

#

anyway,

upbeat cairn
upbeat cairn
#

everything else about them's the same

native swift
upbeat cairn
#

intel won't just cease to exist

#

as far as companies go they're pretty bouncy

native swift
#

if snapdragon jumped into the cpu. so will broadcom and others. taking what little marketshare intel has

upbeat cairn
#

they're certainly not in easy times but they'll ride it out just fine until arrow lake comes out and that shouldn't have the same stability problems

upbeat cairn
#

it's less than 1%

#

also microsoft has exclusivity deals with qualcomm so broadcomm and mediatek (the one's i'd really be looking out for) can't sell chips for windows devices at the moment, but even when that expires the cost to businesses for migrating to a completely new isa will be way too much for them to gain much traction

#

as for "what little marketshare intel has", despite the inroads amd's made they do still hold the majority in desktop marketshare by a pretty comfortable amount

native swift
#

i just don't like intel for backdooring every cpu on the market. intel me is scary stuff

#

amd has one too but it's nothing like intel and can be disabled

upbeat cairn
#

don't kid yourself, companies do anything for a paycheck

#

that said i wouldn't be so certain about amd, they have a history of making big blunders and somehow not going bankrupt

native swift
#

the reality is more political than we think. taiwan is dependent on usa and does anything usa says

#

but this is entirely separate matter flying out

upbeat cairn
#

geopolitics doesn't play into the short term situation much

#

the only thing that really affects is tsmc, and i don't see that being relevant any time soon

#

anyway this is very certainly not the place to discuss this

native swift
#

in the future i think gpus will become way more powerful to the point a cpu is no longer needed

upbeat cairn
#

...
that's not how that works

upbeat cairn
#

that's like saying vacuum cleaners will become so good that you won't need to own a washing machine

#

completely different deal

native swift
#

i know how cpu and gpus work. i meant they will add ai chip or arm. as a helper

upbeat cairn
#

or that couches will become so comfortable that toasters won't need to exist

upbeat cairn
#

when people say snapdragon they usually mean qualcomm

native swift
#

you dont have a phone?

upbeat cairn
#

i have a phone and it has a cpu

restive path
#

Snapdragon is the marketing name

upbeat cairn
native swift
#

x86 and arm works very differently

restive path
#

Like Ryzen is to AMD

upbeat cairn
#

not really

restive path
upbeat cairn
#

they are more the same than sony and sony are the same but i shouldn't get into that

upbeat cairn
native swift
#

i meant shipping entire cpu intel cpu is 1970 style. we can add 3 instructions to the gpu and work the same way

restive path
#

Also the X Elite did very poorly

upbeat cairn
upbeat cairn
#

(that i can think of)

native swift
#

it's not here yet but if pcie 6 decides they can probably add support for the gpu card to also have a cpu chip

upbeat cairn
#

the standard's already finalised and that's also not how pcie works

#

unless you mean like a cpu on an expansion card, in which case that's basically what xeon phi is, and also slot pentiums were a thing where the cpu in pentium 2 days came on a daughterboard that went in a slot similar to how gpus do, but slots couldn't provide enough bandwidth and power so they went back to sockets after that

#

also if they were to put the cpu chip on a graphics card then it's not a graphics card anymore, it's an entire computer and congrats, you've just invented a server rack

restive path
#

@native swift brother, what are you talking about??

#

I'm so confused

native swift
#

I was talking about concepts what is possible and not actual real world examples lo

restive path
restive path
restive path
native swift
#

Yes but in the future instead of a motherboard people buying cpu parts psu everything. In the future it would be simple as just a psu ssd and gpu no cpu. That was my original implication. I actually don't mind if the topic gets changed or something else continue talking. It was just something i randomly thrw out

restive path
#

That's just a computer with extra steps

#

Like a laptop motherboard

native swift
#

If there's no performance decrease who cares. Gpu's already come with 3 fans.

#

Lower price for the consumer

#

Hu

native swift

restive path
#

And preety impractical

native swift
native swift
#

Gpus are good at generating random numbers

restive path
#

You really don't know what you are talking about do you?

restive path
#

GPUs are good at doing a shit ton of maths

native swift
# restive path No.

Yeah but the cpu infrastructure has evolved long enough. This is the next logical step in the pc development

native swift
restive path
#

It's just CPU plus GPU with extra, unnecessary steps

#

How tf do you think will you able to fit a whole ass GPU and motherboard on the same board?

#

And a do it all CPU will just be an APU with an CPU part plus GPU part like the PS5

native swift
#

same size motherboard as phones have

restive path
restive path
#

How tf will you fit the ports

#

VRMs

#

Socket

#

IO

#

PCIE slots

#

Ram slots

#

The chip set

native swift
# restive path ......

how do you plug new psu cables on modern psus. there will be just slots. and extensions. You can design your own motherboard. cable with pcie 5. if upgraded is needed change it etc. the same thing gpu miners use.
