I just installed new ram, mobo and a cpu. Now it just keeps booting back into bios. I tried enabling XMP at first, then cleared cmos since it took so long to go back to the bios, but it does go back after a while.

Also the boot priority shows my hhd, but not my ssd, but my OS is on the ssd. (there’s no ssd option)

Hdd includes ssds

#

Is your ssd detected

golden crystal
#

It is

glacial totem
#

might be a loose connection

#

do you have a m.2 ssd or a 2.5 ssd?

golden crystal
#

2.5, the connections are good as well.

glacial totem
#

try to use a different sata port for the ssd

rancid latch
#

Or cable

golden crystal
#

Gonna have to take the gpu out then, hold on 🫤

glacial totem
#

i have the same issue

rancid latch
#

It’s generally recommended to reinstall windows when switching motherboards

glacial totem
#

if your switching to another platform like from intel to the king amd then you need to reinstall

#

Although jayztwocents made a video showing “how easy it is to move drives between systems”, but I doubt it’s that easy, he just got lucky

glacial totem
#

i move drives for just testing that a system boots but never use a disk from another system long term

golden crystal
#

Moved from AM4 to AM5, so 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

glacial totem
#

PGA to LGA so deff a yupp

golden crystal
#

Getting debug lights from mobo now.

#

Already tried cmos, might have to remove the cpu fans to access the ram then 🫤

glacial totem
#

am5 can take up to 3m+ for dram

#

or more

golden crystal
#

it booted into bios….

golden crystal
glacial totem
#

am5 is well known for that mine normaly takes 3m+

golden crystal
#

and into the bios again 🥲🥲

glacial totem
#

can you send some pics of the pc and drives?

golden crystal
#

As in the cables and specs?

glacial totem
#

pictures with a phone

golden crystal
#

Any specific points exactly? Like cables

glacial totem
#

the drive

#

the place you plug the drive into

golden crystal
#

They were at the bottom earlier, they’re stacked.

#

2x2

glacial totem
#

and the drive

golden crystal
#

Only ssd in this picture (os)

glacial totem
#

try to change both the cables from the HDD to the SSD

#

and also consider getting a big upgrade by getting a nvme ssd

golden crystal
#

Honestly haven’t had any issues with the speed, but might as well soon.

glacial totem
#

if its ded then it will be pretty soon

#

from HDD to SSD is masive and to nvme is pretty big but nothing like HDD to SSD but nvme is still good to go for with a modern pc

golden crystal
#

Still boots into bios, used a completely new cable

glacial totem
#

migh be a dead ssd

golden crystal
#

It was completely working earlier today.

#

And it shows up perfectly in bios.

glacial totem
#

have you changed boot order?

golden crystal
#

No

#

HHD/SSD is the first one.

glacial totem
#

then go windows SSD first

#

can you also send some pics of the bios

golden crystal
glacial totem
#

gimi a sec i think i have a msi mobo so i can guide you trough some stuff

#

just try to boot and change the boot order

golden crystal
#

As in from the bios right now?

#

And the other options are: CD/DVD”, “USB Hard Disk”, “USB CD/DVD”, “USB Key”, “USB Floppy” and “Network”.

#

Which are not right 😵‍💫

glacial totem
#

just try and boot

golden crystal
#

Back into bios, changed the first one to the second, if that’s what you meant

glacial totem
#

ye

golden crystal
#

It booted into the bios again

glacial totem
#

dam

#

i unfortunately do not have a msi board any more

golden crystal
#

I’ll try clearing cmos once again

golden crystal
#

When I sometimes boot now, this pops up:

#

“Press «Del» to run BIOS setup, or «F11> to run boot menu Press «Ctri+F5> to activate M-Flash for BIOS update”

#

I spammed F11, but the bios still came up….

#

Nevermind, connecting the keyboard is smart

#

But nothing much changed, a menu popped up which wants me to set up the bios or something

rancid latch
#

What does the boot menu show

golden crystal
#

This is all it includes

#

And if if I click it, it just goes into bios.

rancid latch
#

Did you have more than one drive before, and remove one of them now?

golden crystal
#

Oh I do have one connected right now, yeah.

#

I’ll connect em both

rancid latch
#

Fucking windows. When you have 2 drives, it’ll install the EFI partition (I think that’s the boot loader) onto whatever drive is labeled “drive 0” by the motherboard regardless of which you select to install to.

This causes both drives to be present for the install to boot

golden crystal
#

So what should I do in this situation?

#

Since I currently only had the OS drive installed, now trying it with both

#

But now with both drives installed, the menu looks the same…

#

HOLY FUCK

#

Changed from UEFI-CSM

#

or whatever it was

#

Which it was at the start, but still didn’t want to boot 😃😃

#

Appreciate you both though! 🫶

golden crystal

It's on CSM now, yeah.
