#about to pull the trigger

what does the mobo have to do with gpu and cpu
if the psu explodes your pc or lights you house on fire your NOT getting a warranty or your money back
a b450 "can" only do pcie 3.0 and a b550 can do pcie 4.0
pcie 3 vs 4 is 2X the difference in speed
does the gpu need that?
since the gpu only runs in x8 pcie 4.0 mode a b550 can give some nice uplifts in performance especially with the 1% lows
is it really enough to consider getting a much more expensive motherboard for a mostly dead platform
it got a new cpu in 2024
keyword mostly
that board supports 4.0
though they still aren't that much compared to the already released 5800x3d
a 5800X3D and a 4090 is still a "good" combo so just being able to do that without getting a new pc might be worth it if your on a budget
answer me that mobo has 4.0 ssd support
yes
so im keeping it
yes the b550
no the b450
the b450 ONLY has pcie 3.0
it has 4.0 ssd support
no
when it comes to NVME SSDs pcie 3.0 to 4.0 to even 5.0 their is only a super small difference in performance for gaming
ai generated answer
i know, but is it false?
it most likely is
95% of b450 only do pcie gen 3
100% of updated bios
actually I think all do pcie gen 3
amd made it only do pcie 3
thats stupid
I know one of the motherboards support pcie gen 4
yes it is
thanks for the heads up
okay but what games are you playing
question why do people bring up pcie shit when talking about ssdds
they are dumb
it matters for some tasks
fortnite cod idk its for my little cousin
gaming isn't one of them
it dose not matter for gaming
what doesn't
any basic pcie 3.0 ssd will be good
ssd speeds above pcie 1.2
no
it's not gonna matter much tho
pcie is a communication interface
in nvme
@jaunty mulch can u send me a mobo and ssd that would go well with this build
maybe with like a 3090 or higher but I'm running a 6800xt at pcie gen 3 and I'm getting the fps I should anecdotal evidence
i thought ssds were just for loading speed
if you see GN vid about it their is not a big difference in avg but pcie 3.0 is still way better in 1%
do you have the link?
for gaming they are just too fast to notice anymore
they'd only matter when direct storage actually starts coming into most games but that hasn't happened yet
and it probably won't happen that soon

This testing is for PCIe generations on the NVIDIA RTX 4090 GPU. We're benchmarking PCIe 3.0 x16 vs. PCIe 4.0 x16 vs. PCIe "5.0" x16 (but the 4090 doesn't support 5.0, so it's just 4.0 -- still worth showing for educational purposes). Remember that PCIe 3.0 x16 is equal to PCIe 4.0 x8,...
pcie is a communication interface that can be used for storage or gpues or networking or anything like that
did he only test a 4090?
ok
have you watched the vid?
can u send me a good mobo and and ssd combo for cheap
based off the parts list
not yet I'm just asking a question
my point is just that its better to be able to use pcie 4.0 to be able to upgrade or software that might need it for full support of things like sam,
and the price difference is not that big
are you in the us?
yes
okay but, they'll be replacing the motherboard not that far in the future
that's why I'm like
it probably is a lower priority a and it's like a decent price difference between b450 vs b550
replacing a mobo is not easy replacing a cpu is
your point?
its better to buy something ok now and not have to worry about it
the b450 is okay tho
it's a small difference for any gpu you'd really be putting with an am4 mobo
and its a small difference in price
it's like $50
what mobo are they getting?
ofc cheapest v cheapest
I wouldn't get the cheapest though only whichever ones have bios flashback
just go on pcpartpicker and look for your self
for obvious reasons
@jaunty mulch
Powered by AMD Ryzen AM4 processors, the MSI B550M PRO-VDH WIFI combines stable functionality and high-quality assembly to solve professional workflows. Extended Heatsink Design and Core boost keep critical components operating reliably. PCIe 4.0 slots and M.2 with Shield Frozr provides the lates...
on pcpartpicker this one is the cheapest b550
and it has bios flashback
does that just have wifi and flashback
if the MSI B550M PRO-VC or PRO-VDH version is the same price or around the same, get it instead of this one. PRO-VC is the newer version of the VDH
gimi sec
cheapest b450 with flashback is 73.98
cheapest b550 with flashback is 99.99
so it's not $50 I was lying my ass off
yes it is
in the case that this doesn't have the bios it will not work
without bios flashing with a different cpu
ofc but it is super rare in 2024 to have a new mobo with a super old bios
in the description it very much says it'll have up to 3000 support
why leave it up to chance?
you can get a similar mobo for the same price with bios flash
what?
also where did you get this info from?
i got it from ltt ztt and GN and most tech youtubers
im not going to watch 1hr of youtube
can you just pleas look up the first mobo i gave you without complaining
is that the vdh
vc
I looked and didn't think I saw a flashback
yes
didn't see it
you can see it on amazon too
yeah I see now
back to impulse
vdh says on the page that it supports 5000
should i go 32 gb or no
also should i downgrade ssd or no
this is the list i have now
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/vLfDYN
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 5600, Radeon RX 6650 XT, Okinos Aqua 3 MicroATX Mini Tower
it is way over budget
but i will start to trim it down a bit
the motherboard has two m.2 slots
ram wise?
from what i can see its better to have 32gb for a new pc
it might be a little over kill from what the rest of the rest of the specs are
also do i need pcie 4.0?
no games like minecraft of other love ram when moded
but it is also true that 16GB is still more then enough for most games
some games use love ram other do not in the way they do not need much to work well
should be fine unless settings are high
lowkey wanna just go with pcie 3.0 will knock down mobo price and ssd price
both yes and no, right now not too much in the future like 4-6 years when games start to run badly you can actually upgrade to something way better or softwear can utilize the full pcie 4.0 bandwidth
ok
almost all pcie ssds are compatible
so to future proof yes,
do you need a custom cooler`?
wym
or are you willing to go with the one that comes with the cpu
nah i prolly need one
its like 20 bucks
most people with a 5600 just use the one in the box, but with the cooler i picked it is a budget king and you can use pbo to get way more preformance
and when i say way more i mean like 15% max
but it is still nice with a good cooler
wym by this
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 5600, Radeon RX 6650 XT, Okinos Aqua 3 MicroATX Mini Tower
you wanna know the difference between 16 and 32GB of ram?
yea
20$
that list is good but if you want to get it closer to the 650 mark then remove the coler from the list
ok
good one
answer me
trying to decide if i just go with a 3.0 pcie mobo
and ssd
its not worth it
and the m.2 in the list from ice is pcie 3.0
and its a super good pcie 3.0 drive too that is as good or better then a sn770
aka a pcie 4.0 drive
do you need it to be 650$ or less???
i mean around there would be great
right now its at Total: $697.81
and you get a good cooler good ram and 32GB of it 1TB of good storage full pcie 4.0 and good wifi and bluetooth
and you can upgrade to a ryzen 9 5950x or ryzen 7 5800X3D later down the line for "cheap"/a good used deal cheap
you get a 5 year warranty on the psu
@jaunty mulch the thing about 3.0 ssds, is they cap at 2280. 4.0 is much higher, so there is a huge difference no?
2280 is the form factor
the --80 at the end means that the drive is 80mm long
2230 is 30mm long
22110 is 110mm long
and no
if you want to use those speeds then you need a super expensive drive
it can carry twice as much bandwidth per lane
why are they so similar in price then
the material costs are generally the same
u just need to buy a more expensive mobo to use 4.0
both yes and no, the drives themselves and the controller has to handle pcie 4.0
so price go up
I think where I'm at right now I have to sacrifice either ram or ssd.
for budget
the cooler?
the basic cooler that comes with is good enugh
16GB ram
Total: $661.45
and no extra cooler
ye
then the total will be Total: $679.92
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 5600, Radeon RX 6650 XT, Okinos Aqua 3 MicroATX Mini Tower
why pay for that mobo if i just have a 3.0 ssd
the gpu uses pcie 4.0
because of flashback
ssd dose not fully matter
gpu it dose
the 6650XT only has a X8 interface while most other gpues have a X16
Already made you a list
and the 6650XT uses a pcie 4.0 interface too so a good mobo will show a small amount of performance increase
ye
over 3.0 u mean
what makes that ssd worth that price i can find one for cheaper
if you truly wanna shave off some extra costs then get 16GB of ram
you can always find something for cheaper but it dose not mean its worth it
i just gotta trust yall ig
at least i work with tech almost all day
so i do know some stuff but mostly about repairing it
the vc mobo is 3.0?
sx8200 has a dram cache that can help with bursts of incoming writes
MP33 also has a dram cache, but I believe their sequential reads are worse than the sx8200
amd has made many chipsets for the am4 platform and the basics are just b450 and x470 can only do pcie 3.0 while b550 and x570 can do pcie 4.0
Says who?
amazon
lol what is wrong with amazon
i will never trust that shit hole again
lied to me 3 times today
Nothing wrong with Amazon
But reviews on Amazon aren’t the same as professional reviews
btw your main pc has a bomb in it
lol i didn't know shit back then
and do not get 3600MT ram
What’s the current psu
.-
why not
infinity fabric runs at 3200
It’s not terrible but you won’t see the benefits
and a 1-1 is best for stability and performance
what is a 1-1
just do not worry about it and use the list above
and the psu you got is not good, here are some cons
ons
-
12V OCP and OPP are not configured correctly
-
Low overall performance
-
Low efficiency
-
Noisy
-
20AWG gauges on the PCIe and 4-pin Molex connectors
-
Lousy transient response at 3.3V
-
Low-end capacitors in both primary and secondary sides
-
High EMI emissions
i know im changing it out
pleas just build a new list from this one
ffs
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 5600, Radeon RX 6650 XT, Okinos Aqua 3 MicroATX Mini Tower
this list
are u sure not having 3600 doesn't matter?
just pleas use this list
if you want to get closer to the 650$ mark then i can find some 2x8 16GB ram
