i've tried updating the bios, vbios, drivers (ddu), clear cmos, swapping to nvidia gpu fixed the issue

The crash is the gpu fans slowly ramping up until i get a black screen and fans get maxxed out, microsoft basic display adapter doesn't cause a crash but amd drivers do.
The fans ramp up to max after rebooting the pc from a crashed state, and they also ramp up to max temporarily when the amd driver finishes installing

specs are as follows
12400f
msi pro b660m-a wifi ddr4
16gb 3200 fury beast rgb
w11 pro 24h2 (release preview but also happens on stable)
teamgroup mp33 512gb
asus dual rx 580

You said swapping GPU fixed the issue? Have you tried DDU?
This could just be a faulty gpu, it’s getting to that age for 580s now

it works fine with microsoft drivers though so i doubt it's the gpu

If it works fine with Microsoft basic display drivers then it’s 100% the gpu

#

the gpu should be able to work with its own AMD drivers

#

I’d def swap that gpu out
