my pendrive has a very weird issue with it where when im transferring contents from my pc to it, the speed fluctuates between 12-15MB/s to literally 0
but then im downloading something directly onto the pendrive, it works full speed (limited by my nets download speed)

Is it a lot of small files?
nope
one huge file and 2 other very small files
Link to the exact make / model of USB flash drive? Could very well just be a poor quality drive.

Anywho, if another drive works fine (which is exactly what I was going to suggest you try), you've narrowed the problem to just this drive, so you know where the bottleneck is.
You didnt read the "but when i directly download to it, it works fine" part
Basically when i plug in the drive, and download files directly to it, the speed works fine and steady, limited by my net speed that is
So i thought it could be a driver issue
And i find both drives use the same driver
Then I'm guessing its a windoodoo issue, i'll try again on a linux later
My bad - so something about the way it's copying files isn't playing nicely then. Have you tried copying the same files using another computer to rule out issues with just that computer?
Yeah, or give another OS a try just for giggles. Basically, eliminate variables one at a time,.
No i haven't yet, im about to tho
So i think iv come to a conclusion
The other usb is 3.2
While the one that doesnt work fast is 2.0
Maybe this is the issue because the usb is performing the same on all PCs
But it still does not explain why it works fine when being directly downloaded to
Either way the larger problem is still unsolved
