C: is my Windows OS and important apps. D: is strictly for games/launchers. And the E: (4TB) Is for mass storage of captures/recordings/stream vods

Update: Have been trying various OS migration tools and they either: Lie about cost or they just don't work for whatever reason

for swapping your D drive, its probably easiest to just plug them in together and copy over

#

as far as the C drive goes, reinstalling is the best way

So I could just format the D drive and move the entire OS over?

#

Oh nvm. I'm stupid. Misunderstood.

#

I could move everything from D to the storage dump, install onto D drive. Make D the new C drive. And install new D drive.

heady dagger

that could also work

#

if you can put the new d drive in though, that would be my recommendation

C, D and E are all already mounted. I was just making things more complicated for no reason. Though, I seem to be running into a new issue potentially: Windows WON'T install properly on the D drive?

One moment. Taking photos to help explain.

#

Trying again to see if it happens again.

#

But basically, D drive has been formatted. Trying to install Win11 onto it and initially, it looks like it does so successfully, at least it goes through the setup and installation steps. Seems to complete them but is looping back to Windows Setup screen instead of booting into windows. Trying again to see if it works this time.

take out your current c drive

#

windows will put the EFI partition on disk 0 regardless of which disk you try to install to

solid kelp
#

Ah. That makes sense. Should I also install the new D drive while I'm at it?

heady dagger
#

sure

solid kelp
#

Dope. Just a sec

heady dagger
#

make sure disk 0 is the new c drive

#

if its not, unplug/remove all other drives

solid kelp
#

Can do, will do

#

It's actually booting into windows, hang on. I'll make sure it's on the right drive

#

Miraculously, it worked even with the former C drive installed. Now I just have to swap the C with D and mount the new 2TB drive

heady dagger
#

but if you take it out and the EFI partition is on it, windows will compeltely break

solid kelp
#

I checked, it wasn't. Even if it was, I have a bootable drive so I can just fix whatever

#

I really do appreciate all the help though
