oh also i forgot to tell the specs of the machine, they are:
acer travelmate 4062lmi
pentium M at 1.73ghz
1gb ram
a dvd drive thats faulty, i think
intel gma 900
80gb hdd
What DVDs have you tried? Given that laptops 20+ year age, it's possible the DVD drive inside it doesn't read dual layer discs. (Also... It's time to replace that 20+ year old laptop.)
i have tried a game, a windows vista dvd, and a blank cd
the thing says in the sticker that it has a dvd-dual layer drive so idk
and the mini cd i tried was some random sandisk software
sandisk rescuepro i think
Gotcha, welp, if nothing reads in the drive, it's dead. Likely due to the laser wearing out.
like mini cds are able to be read by the drive
normal cds arent able to
Maybe the motor is dying and it can't spin fast enough for large CD's? Or maybe its not getting enough voltage to spin fast enough?
If you're trying to do some retro gaming/computing I would recomend a tower, as the parts are easier to come by and the issues are more easily troubleshot
i just want the laptop to work, i dont really want to play any retro games on it
i just want it to be like an average idk, office laptop in '05 to '07?
also when i tried to install the game that i mentioned the 3rd time already it launched the setup but it just said "no cd detected, go get the cd in or get out of here" after 2 minutes of trying to read
Everything works otherwise? Not the end of the world IMO. May be worth ordering another drive if you’re that concerned.
as i said, none of the regular CDs/DVDs work
only the mini CDs
