@wintry abyss @rotund osprey here is my post from earlier. If you have any questions about my setup please let me know.

Only things I’d upgrade are keyboard and mouse then maybe cpu

I think that one should be fine

#

I bought it 2 years ago so it might be cheaper now

It’s not

Unless you really need gen 4 (which you don’t)

IMO Wait until Zen 5 comes out and just replace it with that. Really cool setup.

#

Just the right amount of stuff in that room, for me.

Wait till zen 5 and get zen 4 cheap

And what type of switches do you want
Clicky- very loud and a feel able click in the press
Tactile- clicky but sound of linear
Linear- can be any sound and is a smooth press all the way to bottom out

wintry abyss
#

tactile switches also have a bump to tell you where the actuation is

I like my keyboard, I’d recommend it!

#

It’s a 60% the glorious GMK with linear keys.

I'd recommend basically any Ducky or Filco keyboard. I'm a programmer that has been using mechanical keyboards for about 14 years.

I also would recomend the wooting.

So the Ducky, Filco or Wooting keyboard. I have never heard of any of these before. @pseudo tapir budget can be somewhere around no more than 150 as I just do not have the knowledge on keyboards but willing to give something like that a try. I do not like loud keys so something quiet but good to feel buttons on the keyboard wouldnt hurt. its hard to really know for sure what I would like or want. @hallow torrent how much does those keyboards go for usually? @wintry abyss what brand of tactile keyboards do you use or recommend?

last mural
#

Cherry mx browns

little anchor
#

@last mural I think linus covered those before?

#

sounds farmiliar

last mural
#

He definitely has

little anchor
#

hmm so many choices

#

Im a bit lost but do like what Im hearing so far

last mural
#

Cherry MX browns are the type of switch that are inside these keyboards that you want, not a brand of keyboard itself usually (although cherry does or did make their own keyboards)

little anchor
#

oh okay

#

so its the type or material used in the keyboard itself

last mural
#

It's the configuration of the switch and how they manufacture the switch. Brown means tactile feel but no click

little anchor
#

@last mural appreciat it. I will rewatch this again and will respond back after getting a bit more reaearch on this. thanks everyone so far as it seem like the only upgrade I really need is a keyboard. I just always used standard keyboards but never gave it much thought. My alienware mouse was the only expensive thing I did simply because a friend recommended it

#

That has been a solid mouse so far

#

@last mural I like the no click sound so that might be the way to go.

last mural
#

There's brown (minimal or no click) blue (loud click) and red and black which are linear switches which I don't recommend for typing (compared to just games)

little anchor

Browns

little anchor

okay

last mural
#

Blues would be the extra typist-y ones

little anchor
#

Ill get back to you once I finish the video @last mural. Oh the blue for the typist. Hmm seems like they really did think this stuff out

i would recommend getting a switch tester or something online, from a site like amazon. they can be quite expensive so i usually return them after i make my choice

#

something like this i would go with, or if you are just thinking of cherry switches you could get a smaller one.

#

i ended up going with gateron silent browns.
reasons why:
tactile, fairly quiet, cheap.

I’m using the Logitech g910 Orion spectrum. It has romer-g tactile switches (they’re not hotswap and the keycaps are nonstandard but idc) and a bunch of “gaming features” like macro buttons and a button that disables the windows key (and anything else that you configure in ghub).

I don’t know that I’d recommend it to everyone as it’s an extremely large keyboard (in length, width, and height) but I got a renewed one on Amazon for $40 instead of the normal $70

Apologies everyone but I neede some time to look into these keboards.

Well, you don’t have to buy what I did. The keyboard and the switches I went with, would be about 150. Mine was more just because I went and bought different key caps.
