#Graphical anomalies

Hi yall, here I am again, hopefully this time I can provide better context and I can figure out what’s happening. So, I am running an arch distro, EndeavorOS, and my hardware is a Ryzen 5600x, Evga 3080ti, and 64gb ram.

I am seeing graphical anomalies, idk if this is a driver error, or my gpu is dying, or it’s something else. But halo infinite just kinda starts entering a new dimension, in Minecraft frames are whole colors leading to the screen flashing, mostly black, in stalker gamma when I enter fire fights my frames drop to shit and I can’t play reliably. Other games like armored core, halo mcc and helldivers 2 run fine.

#

here are some halo infinite vids I took to show whats happening there

Please?

sweet hawk
#

could you install windows on a spare ssd

#

to rule out driver problems

waxen shale
#

I have the live iso of the os install, but idk what program to use to benchmark it

waxen shale
hushed lodge
#

did this just start happening?
have you been running endeavourOS for a long time or just installed it?

waxen shale
waxen shale

But it’s still happening, so it consistent

#

I do not use linux, so if ya want to game go windows.

#

Pro tip if you also want to use linx you can instal a new drive and dual boot

Have you tried updating your system? Did it start happening after KDE6 release? Historically I have also seen less issues reported for games with GNOME compared to KDE.

Also Nvidia's drivers haven't been as good on Wayland as they should be, so make sure that they are up to date. Can you run a pacman -Syu in terminal?

Also, budgie is gnome based

Did you update your system beforehands?

#

Or do you have auto-updates on for some reason (also does Endeavour even have those for system components?)

#

Also..

waxen shale
#

I update with either my distros update system or I just do pacman -Syu, I updated it last night

waxen shale

Running Minecraft

So, with discord, when I get pop ups and what not, like when trying to view an image, it’ll flicker in and out of existence like Minecraft, and Steam would kinda get torn apart? It also flickers, but it’s random. Sometimes it won’t, sometimes it will, but it’s also a part of the window

#

I’ll get a video later, as I’m at work rn

Just get like a small ssd or smth, doesn't need to be huge.. just make sure that before you install windows, that you disconnect all of your other drives or it may decide to throw it's efi partition literally anywhere except for the drive windows is getting installed to

vale girder
#

Also, if you stream the game do other people see these anomalies? If they don't, then it's hardware side.

waxen shale
#

Also I’m tight on money, what I was goi to do is try to get steam running on the installation iso since it boots into a live environment and try to run halo infinite from that to try and see if it’s hardware or drivers. I hope it’s not hardware….

waxen shale
vast igloo
waxen shale
#

I was told to do that by the devs of my distro

#

Since it comes pre installed with clean nvidia drivers

vast igloo
#

you'd need to use something like wintousb to make a liveboot drive (effectively installs windows onto the usb drive)

vast igloo
waxen shale
#

My distro iso is a live boot environment when you install the os

vast igloo
#

Ye windows isn't like linux, at all

#

I suggest doing the testing with windows because it actually guarentees you're in a functional state software-wise (fuck nvidia)

waxen shale
#

It’s already ready to go in a usb, since I needed to make it for the is install. The devs of my os said that I can use the iso live boot to see if it’s drivers or hardware

#

See, I would, but the current windows 10 iso defaults to win 11, and my system isn’t compatible with it.

#

And I don’t feel like dual booting.

vast igloo
#

How are you trying to download it?

waxen shale
#

When I dropped it into my vm a while ago it defaulted to windows 11

vast igloo
#

You definitely downloaded the win11 iso then xd

waxen shale
#

And from Microsoft

#

Nah

vast igloo
#

an win10 iso doesn't just magically become win11, you downloaded the wrong one sip

waxen shale
#

Says win10 rite dere

#

And it defaults to win11, unless Microsoft mislabeled this iso on their website and file

vast igloo
#

boutta find out xd

waxen shale
#

But my gf win10 magically updated to win11 unexpectedly…..

#

I was trying to find an older iso tho

vast igloo
waxen shale
#

Yee

vast igloo
#

chances are they started updates and didn't realize that win11 was in that bunch

waxen shale
#

But it makes one think, since they’re pushing ai

#

They’re gonna cut win10 support soon

vast igloo
#

ye 2025 is official end of support for win10 iirc

#

pain

waxen shale
#

That’s why the win10 iso defaults to 11 since they’re prepping for that

vast igloo
#

might be the day that i actually swap back to Arch on my main rig, as long as VR shit is actually more stable i have a crippling vrchat addiction ok

waxen shale
#

Idk what you got tho on your end with that iso

#

I wanna get into vr

vast igloo
#

boutta find out in like 2 mins

vast igloo
#

as long as you have the money

waxen shale
#

You couldn’t drop it into a vm?

waxen shale
#

Can’t really do vr in a college dorm

vast igloo
#

Damn

vast igloo
waxen shale
#

But vr in Minecraft with the valkiren skies mod? Chefs kiss

waxen shale
vast igloo
#

it is a vm :3

waxen shale
#

Ah

#

I’m dumb

vast igloo
#

the amount of capture card and 2 pc fuckery i'd need to be doing to get a screenshot like that on raw hardware xD

#

ion got that money sad

waxen shale
#

I could never get it working, always booted into the interactive shell.

#

Bruh

vast igloo
#

ye i can now confirm that iso is actually win10

waxen shale
#

But as you can see here in my virtman, it installs as win11

vast igloo
#

i got no clue what in the heck you did for it to be win11, but ye

waxen shale
#

Hmm

#

So at least that’s ok, but I can’t take out my current drive, and dual booting gon be a bitch, but at least it’s not win 11, cuz apparently win11 doesn’t like dual booting

vast igloo
#

Honestly windows overall doesn't like dual booting, due to the efi partition fuckery i mentioned before

waxen shale
#

I see

vast igloo
#

winupdate has a tendency to just overwrite efi/grub and leave your linux install fucked

#

so you then have to use a live linux usb to restore efi/grub for dual boot

#

shits a pain

#

fuck windows

vast igloo
#

it's even worse when you have secureboot enabled 🗿

waxen shale
#

Welp

#

What would be a way to test whether it’s drivers or hardware?

#

Without windows

vast igloo
#

deadass don't know any benchmarking software for linux, i always default to windows for it because it's the main platform that hardware companies actually develop their shit for

#

If your os's liveboot iso does have (functional) nvidia drivers, it won't hurt to try it, but it isn't a guarentee

waxen shale
#

I’ve found benchmarking apps, installed them, but they don’t show up in my apps

#

They’re installed, but unreachable

#

Need Luke or Emily for sum help
