#installing a new gpu, need some help with psu cables
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
One is an 8 pin and the other is a 6 pin
Also they’re kind of difficult to pull out
they are both to power pcie devices (mainly graphics cards)
both have a clip you need to release
To remove the cables I need to release a clip?
yes
Errr do you have any clues as to where I should look?
Probably at the pc
yes. press them in and pull
Its a little tough to pull out
yes
Do I just keep pushing?
there's a lot of friction on the pins
Whats friction mean?
Eng is not my first language
resistance to being moved
yep
yw
How do I put it back in?
Do I need to hold the clip down again and push it in?
Or can I just push it in
just push it in until you hear a click
Got it thaaaanks
I got a new 7900 GRE
So I was checking the cables of my current gpu
Whats this? @lilac iron
thats a sag bracket
Ah I figured
yeah
Would you happen to know how to install one in case I need it lol
it screws underneath the gpu with the same row of screws that attach the gpu
Do I pull the plastic thing off
what plastic thing
This plastic film or wtv
oh yeah, the peels come off
remove what
The film
yeah take off the film (peels)
Aight
It doesn’t fit 💀
Anything I can do to squeeze it in
Can I just saw through the unneccessary parts i don’t need more hdd’s
Yeah true
But I thought 1.5cm would fit 😭
I think those drive cages are removable
Oh shit fr?
There’s a thumb screw connecting the hdd cage to the 5.25” bay cage
Other than that, I can’t see
What metal part
Let me draw a circle
Is that in the way?
Drive cages are removable yeah
Yeah I knew you’d need to take out that cage
I’m going to try to squeeze it through that open spot
?
That’s a 5.25” bay cage. Rn you have an optical drive at the top
But it gets in the way of the gpu so you’ll need to remove it
Can you draw a circle around it
Take a picture of your whole case
K
Prebuilt and I’m trying to upgrade it rn
So is it just this part that’s in the way?
Yeah primarily
You might have to replace the case
If you know how to build a computer from scratch, no it won’t be difficult
What
I MADE IT FIT
FLIP THE img if u wanna see better
I just had to do some cable remanagement
Oh wow, that actually worked
Can you say good job for me I feel so accomplished
And you don’t have to use a sag bracket 😂
Err
Good job lmao
I put it face down
Had to remove a fan bcs the cable was in the way
Now I’ll put my old gpu back in and install some amd software
Splendid
What’s your old gpu?
You need to use DDU (display driver uninstall) to remove the remnants of the old gpu
A 2080 from a shitty manufacturer
So just leave the 7900GRE in the pc, uninstall the old drivers and software, and install the amd one you want/need
Alr
I can do that?
I still have nvidia drivers installed
Yeah
Aight if you say so
You won’t be able to game or do a lot with the gpu until you remove the old drivers and install the new ones
But it’ll be fine for just browsing settings, etc
IT WORKED!!!!
Can you help me?
The pc booted
Ummm i dont think its detecting my gpu?
In task manager not at least
@lilac iron
💀
install 7900GRE drivers from AMD's website
just the top one
are the nvidia drivers and software removed?
Download Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) - Remove AMD/NVIDIA/INTEL Graphics Drivers Cleanly - DDU is a driver removal utility that helps you completely uninstall AMD/NVIDIA graphics card drivers and packages from your system, leaving no leftovers behind, including registry keys, folders, files, and driver store.
thats fine
But my pc suddenly detected my gpu?
use DDU now
So I’m wondering if it ran automatically
Ok
I downloaded the ddu setup
Was i supposed the use the self extracting one?
ive never used it myself so i dont know
