#Wanted to Upgrade this 2016 Rig to get to 1440p 144 Hz - Casual Gaming and some light WFH
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Ok
Ok
Prob wanna go intel here. Mostly bc am5 upgradbility doesn't matter to much
amd is still better for gaming
@white frigate budget?
Not by too much. 14900k can sometimes beat out 7800x3d. Albeit tdps.... 14900k will beat the fucking crap out of the 7800x3d in productivity tho
Yeah if you ignore the fact that the 14900k is almost $200 more expensive
Good trade
I meant in terms of budget
Depends on budget. It seems to be a monumental upgrade and I assume we have a baller on our hands from the 980ti
Even if I had $2000 I would not buy the 14900k for a gaming usecase
14900K 💀
Yeah most likely
But this is for longevity
Why would I spend $200 more for the same performance and higher power draw
He wants 6-8yrs out of it
Ok?
So am5 isn't gonna be benefit
Yeah 7800x3d is most logical
You’ll get the same longevity out of either of them
Ok make sense
But me. 7800x3d cannot productivity super well
Like a 13600k beats it
Plus even if they want to keep this for 6-8 years they can upgrade to whatever is the last AM5 X3D cpu in the future
That's true. But will most likely switch socket
doesn't the 12900K do good in productivity
It’s a good thing they aren’t doing productivity then lol
When he upgrades
It does. 7800x3d is miles ahead in gaming though. And 13600k beats 12900k in productivity
600k is a VERY good chip from all things productivity
But yeah for gaming
This is still early days for AM5, AM6 will probably have just released by the time they upgrade
7800x3d makes more sense
Fosho it will. Am5 done 2027
Yeah
What CPU pairs well with the 3070 ti
In which case you’ll be able to get a slightly older am5 cpu for cheap
13700k? 7800x3d?
And ride out am5 for a couple more years
Either is fine 3070ti is a capable gpu
Should this person upgrade ti a 3070 to or even an a770
Relatively recent fast gpu it's fine.
Neither
Ok
6950xt?
Good card. Untill the 7900gre power limits are out.
At least.
So just get gre
What games does he plan to play
Nothing fixed but can stretch to get a rig suit ale to not touch for a decade
Mostly gonna be Pubg, FPS and some AAA titles until a PS5 would arrive when the PS5 pro drops
Post that competitive games on PC and titles on console for the TV room
Thing is I'm flexible but goal is smooth 1440p with 144 FPS on all such games
Was somewhere leaning towards i5 14600k and 4070 but need substitutes to tone down the price - for reference I am in India
Also thing is 980 ti is still a baller for 1080p but not enough to have a bump up in resolution to stick with time
Current intel nvidia options
To add LG ultra gear 27 inch inch to the mix^
Get a 32
4 wfh
Your eyes and neck will
Thank you
What about a 2080 ti?
Too old
ok
Doesn't make much sense
Already have a laptop - mostly gonna be on the road for meetings too
that may be a little overkill
Way more perf
Noted - shall try a build around that
He can afford it.
Or even a 7900gre if that's more economical
im not talking about if he can afford it or not
It's a 10 year rig so I can stretch but not extreme overkill
He wants it for a while
Yeah
why does everyone say use amd instead of nvidia
Nvidia is being a bit greedy rn
AMD has made a good market for price pov
But I'd still be more confident on Intel and nvidia - Indian parents having some influence on brand perception
Yeah but stick to amd
For gpu at very least
Intel I can understand in some space
Haha yeah i don't recco nvidia unless you have a good use case
Maybe a mental block but hey
Yeah I'm the same way
Bit hypocritical but I daily drive nvidia. And intel. Mostly bc I need each of they respective features
And I have both top flagships
Plus like intel and nvidia experience has been top notch so
Has
Amd has caught up 99%
i use ray tracing alot
4070 vs 7900xt is about idk
Amf can rt js not as good
I do cad
And productivity
With cuda
So amd is not even an option
we all have different use cases
Plus occasionally ai/ml stuff
Anything gaming or vid editing lightly stick to amd
i perfer more fps while using rt and frame gen (which dlss is better for)
Mine I'd literally ms office, LinkedIn and gaming
Unless ofc 4090
Okay so amd it is
Fsr is one par
Not àś good.
But on par
Especially fsr3
But like might need to use autocad and similar in future because of being in that space
Not sure if that makes a difference
And that slight diff isn't worth losing 30% regular perf
even intels Xees could potentially beat fsr 1 in image quality
Amd should be okay
1 yeah. Fsr3 is quite noiice
It works 99% fine. And intel cpu is gonna work better for any autodesk app
So if ur heavy autodesk
Then 14700/13700k.
I recco whichever Is cheape
Noted - shall make a build around these
I mean
On paper at the very least
If you have the cooling
Nepton 240m
you can OC a 14900K further
Aio cooler
Never touched over clocking on my i7 6700k 🙄
I OCed my 10900K just recently
yeah but they aren't doing productivity lol
ye ik I'm just pointing out
need to stop this hate on i9s
it is the second best but ye
X3D is better in every other aspect
price, thermals, power draw, raw gaming performance
Compared to?
i5 14600k
What's Ur use case?
Light work if I'm home - office, LinkedIn etc
Casual gaming - sports and competitive and some titles until the PS5 pro or new gen drops for the TV room
Just wanna upgrade to 1440p and 144 FPS to keep the PC relevant more like
yeah the indian market is fucked
In different ways
Do you game?
edit?
Currently yes.
No editing though
Might have some autocad down the line for being in building materials sector and architecture
When?
Let me see
14600k price in India is also good
Nvm it's a while away
4070 is the bank breaker more so
what's the 13700K looking like
Checking
ok
36999
And 14600K is?
35999
Get the 13700K
Again, this is amazon price
nd make sure you have a decent cooler for it
Will be cheaper at retail
Current nepton 240m keeping i7 6700k at max 53 degrees when on stress test on cpuz
Planning to keep that only
36 thousand dollars?????
no
Vedant?
iNr
Vedant computers
Indian rupee brother
oh ok
I shall check but even then a local dealer who'd also assemble it will be cheapdd
Cheaper
Okay
I dont think in daily use I'd see massive differences in either
No you probably wouldn't
if you can find a 13700KF for even cheaper
That's also a great idea
I mean here the best practice is finalize rig on paper and then discuss at the table with the 'right person chosen'
I think i have a fair idea though
Now at least
I ll check at my local guy and see what he offers
okay
So like above i7 or i5 as earlier
4070
Mobo is a question mark tho
Or the ones I selected should suffice
Go for the z790
Got two above quotes - this is lesser than what I was putting on paper
Further guidance appreciated
Bad
terrible actually
I know, I was gonna put my 2 hours research in and see further. Pretty sure I'd reach a similar review.
RAM is shit, GPU is shit, SSD is shit on the first list, I assume worse on the second
Xpd is a brand i have never heard of. Don't think going from Msi to a zotac or inno3d would be wise either
The brand isn't the shit part
😂😂 it's the speeds and cas latency for the ram, and for the second list the DDR level, the P3 is a dogshit SSD, 3060 is a very low end card now
Couldn't word it technically but that best puts it 😂
Gotta find a different vendor then
3060 I don't think would be an apt upgrade from a 980 ti as well
I'd still be on 1080p
Okay let's see.
Homework and research continues.
Thanks again!
Shall be troubling you peeps more on this journey 😅
Damn that's lovely
Hmu anytime for recommendations or some local's insights while travelling lol
in what world is a 4070 shit
Are you fucking dumb
A 3060 is shit
Immtalkimg about the 306)
The first list
Also a 4070 is terrible value for money
When a 7800xt exists
nope
yea its bad
ah well, amazon's quote for Team Red
Im considering switching to team red lol
Note: Yellow means some compatibility and review research required
getting 5600x3d on paper is still pending
just seeing that while putting possible rigs together on a spreadsheet
Thats good
MoBo difference
5800x3d build research tommorow followed by compatibility and review research
40k INR is literally the price of a gaming console for reference
Nvidia has good software tho
The question is whether that is actually worth the difference
What Settings and res do u play or are planning at least
Currently at 1080p60
Planning to go 1440p 165 FPS with the LG ultra gear monitor
Also kinda leaning towards AMD at the moment
Some research also suggesting the AM5 to have longer support for future proofing beyond 2025
Lga 1700 ending this year
@white frigate don't listen to him
Everyone will tell you not to listen to him
He's a fat dumbass who hates amd because amd is better than intel and Nvidia
That's literally his reasoning
Take my advice and everyone else's and go am5
Ryzen 5 7600
Let's see. Gonna be putting one or two more rigs on paper
If u say so
Soo vendor 2
Smh actually this fits the requirement better seems to be my reading
Make sure the ram is cl30/cl32/cl34/cl36 at the very maximum, and 6000mhz
Okay deadass - gave my spec sheet to a vendor in Asia's largest computer hub and my cost in the quote came down by 40% 👌
Is that ram 6000mhz cl42?
The guy hasn't mentioned on paper tbh
Nonetheless when I visit and finalise l, I'll take care of that
Powersupply is icky
Was getting the feel of it
Some components are cheaper out by this vendor to fit in the x3d
Non modular psu - has to be replaced
Maybe a cheaper cooler and nvme too
Can you get an deepcool AK620, ID-Cooling A620 or Thermalright PA/PS/FT 120?
The guy suggested ak 620
But I felt liquid cooler would be a better bet and less noisy too
The sound of an air cooler is only determined by the fans
The sound of an AiO is determined by the fans and the pump
Air coolers will be quieter most of the time
Understandable. Thing is my current i7 6700k is being cooled by a Nepton 240m aio so
