#AMD Expo

you aint running 7200mt ram on ryzen 7000
that ram will not work
get something like this instead
What exactly is AMD Expo though? Like can I not just run the 7200 ram at whatever speed the CPU can handle? Genuinely curious
ryzen 7000 cpus can handle 6400 most of the time
If you go higher you’ll probably have to configure it manually
And there isn’t really any performance benefit
Every cpu can run 6000
So it would post, I'd just have to manually set the speed?
Yes
If you’re willing to spend a few hours tuning stuff
You could get it running very well probably
But what's the difference between AMD expo and not having it? That it would automatically tune it for me?
It’s just amd’s version of xmp
And yeah it’s automatic overclocking
Both xmp and expo work on amd
Yeah
But it prob won’t run
You might have to run the memory controller & infinity fabric slower than the ram or smth
Why not?
I'm going to be honest, I do not understand what that means
AMD has a worse memory controller than intel
So it can’t run ram at the same speeds
Intel cpus can manage 7200mt just fine
If you want it to work out of the box get a 6000mt kit
Ohhhhh okay. So it wouldn't be able to run at 7200 even though the Ram can. But I wouldn't even be able to run the ram at a lower clock speed even with the XMP?
You would
You would just have to tune a bunch of stuff manually
I couldn't just lower the memory speed to 6000? Is that no an option?
You can also try running the ram at a higher speed, and desyncing the memory controller and running it at half the speed
Yes
You can
But you’ll have to manually set all the timings
iirc
What does that entail? Like tbh I'm usually okay with messing with PC setting and I like the look of the RAM so I'm willing to mess with the timings if it's not too overly complicated.
But obviously if I think it's really difficult I'll return the ram and get different ones that would work better but if I can avoid that and make what I got work, then I'd rather do that and if I upgrade in the future to intel/amd can use faster ram then I'd already have ram that can handle it
you can lower the speed manually BUT then you might aswell return the ram get cheaper ram so you wont waste the money on the fast ram and actual 6000 ram will be more stable than manual 6000
that is what you want instead

Suboptimal timings
These ones are $20 cheaper with better timings https://pcpartpicker.com/products/compare/H9CZxr,PxTZxr,HNZXsY

or just downclock the frequency lol
its not that hard
It might keep the timings higher
theres different options
it would keep the higher timeings
of xmp
so you would have to majorly downclock the voltage
yes which is too manually do all the timings lol
just primary ones, leave the rest on auto lmao
you never should do just some and leave the rest
thats a terrible idea
it goes on auto
💀
primary timings are what u see on the listing, like 3600c16 16 16 36
yes once you do one manual you CAN NOT do the rest on auto
Yeah my secondaries are on auto and they’re shit
I need to tune them when I have time
yeah well xmp is a lot worse than custom
thats not what auto would do what auto will do is set the memory to its JEDEC
or just test custom timings to make sure theyre stable
thats like pretty obvious
still xmp/expo is better for the rams lifespan
and as i said here you need to do all the timings manual once you do one any auto ram timings will defualt to the JEDEC witch could cause problems
What are ram timings
Like I get clock speed but what are timings? And why does that matter? And why is it different between different ram sticks
And what would happen if I plug the 7200 sticks in and don't touch anything
then they would run at JEDEC ddr5 speeds
which iirc is 4800
Oh ew
RAM (memory) timings are complicated. Primary, secondary, and tertiary timings can impact benchmark performance on Intel and Ryzen CPUs, and we talk about them here.

now i reccomend returning that ram and gettings some 6000 cl 30
Okay, ill prolly end up doing that. But how does one like create their own timings, like I would have to if I kept the 7200 ram?
bios
which will take a very long time
why would you want to keep the expensive ram just to use it at alot cheaper ram speeds
Okay so yeah prolly not for me then
So what ram timings are good I'm looking at ram on PC part picker, 6000mhz, and I want white RGB ram because that goes with my aesthetic, but there's still a lot of options
cl 30
but timings barly matter
Do the rest matter?
yes
Which of these is good?
30-36-36-76 or 96
Thank you! I. Looking at teamGroup t-force delta RGB ddr5 6000 cL30. It's amd expo compatible
It's timings are 30 36 36 76
The good old noname ugly ram ☠️
ong
W ram
Actually that one mushkin kit is the W ram
