My brother has a FrostFlow 240 Series CPU cooler and recently he has been having issues with blue screening and high temperatures. I helped him clean the paste off with iso and popped a pea size thermal paste onto the CPU and then reattached the pump in a star pattern. It idles at about 50c but when he plays any games it goes up to 80-100c. We don't know what temps it goes to when it crashes. He sits at 70c on a browser. Wondering if maybe there is something wrong with the CPU or cooler?

Unplug all fans and listen to where the pump is

#

If you hear water moving, it’s working

#

If not, the pump is broken

Feels like I can feel vibrations in the tubing. Can't realisticly turn the fans off with the PC running at 70C without the worry of bricking it.

If they're the same temperature, are they hot or are they cold?

Both tubes felt the same temperature. I thought I could feel them vibrating, my brother couldn't. It started making some crackling at some point, quite loudly. Trying to figure some stuff out and removing, thermal pasting blah blah it did it again but not as loud. Read online that it's a sign that the pump is dying, may be true, may be not. We went out and picked up an air cooler today for the only computer components shop near us and I just described the noise and said the same thing as I'd read. We've put a BeQuiet on and his temps went from this.

Max temp after PC start up 85c. Idle nothing open or running temp 54c. Browser open 65c. Minecraft open and running 75-80c. Hunt Showdown 80-100c.

New temps: Start up 65-70c. Idle 33-35c. Browser 35-38c. Minecraft 45-50c. Hunt, Tark, etc, on decent graphics etc 60-70c.

These are rough numbers, I don't remember the exacts but these are around the ball park give or take some.

I also had him order different fans, he had some fans, I don't know what the fuck they were. They sounded and looked like shit. I could hear is fans down his set of stairs and into my room right next to the stairs. Sounded like jet engines, so I'm guessing under load and spinning towards the upper end they're obviously going to make more noise. He has Noctuas now. and they're just as quiet as mine are. Spin up a little bit louder every so often to keep/bring temps down a few degrees but only I'd say 10db louder, its like having a quiet fan going.

Ultimately the new fans plus having a working cooler has resolved all the issues it seems.
