So I'm trying to upgrade a buddy's computer with new ram and cpu. I first tried putting an i7 8700k in it, and when I turn the power supply on the lights work on it fine, but when I hit the power button nothing happens except the lights just stay on, they dont flicker or anything. I returned it and ordered an 8700 thinking it 8700k was just doa but it's doing the exact same thing. I did put the original cpu in and it started right up with no issues so I am completely at a loss.
Pc specs for what might be the issue;
Og cpu: i5-6400
Mobo: asus maximus viii gene

That board supports 6th & 7th gen CPUs only (unless you go into heavy modding)
