I'm looking for a laptop for college that's portable (14 inches max) and can handle light gaming (very light like hades for example nothing too crazy).
I stumbled upon this vivobook pro 14 https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-VivoBook-Display-GeForce-M6400RC-EB74/dp/B0BHW3HJB1?th=1

and while it seemed perfect at first I read a lot of reviews saying the battery was bad, so is it really that bad? do I just go for it or are there better alternatives perhaps?

i can say, i have the vivobook 14 s oled. the batterylife is ok. well its also a intel variant. idk how amd handles power consumption.

i got sometimes 3 hours runtime before the battery runs out.

since the laptop is a good deal, how much battery runtime do you need?

to be fair my old laptop is 6 years old and it can barely handle 30 mins so I don't really know exactly what's considered "good battery" in today's standards.

but I would say 4 hours should be decent enough

Ultrabooks can last up to 9 and macbooks up to 14

#

This will probably last around 4, with how bad OLED power draw can be

#

Also beware of burn in on OLED. I’d personally avoid OLEDs on laptops because of this

#

Also do remember that this is the wimpy version of the no-good mobile 3050

#

It wouldnt do modern AAA very well

#

I’d also look at the ideapad 5 pro, usually cheaper for similar specs

theyre puny yes bu will have significastly better battery life

High power draw with less performance than 780m

7730U then?

dGPU gets disabled when not in use

pff

#

i forgot abour mux

potent sable

So it draws milliwatts. Doesnt matter if it’s a 4090 or a 3050, it effectively draws 0w when it is not in use

Idk you said fuck off first

thorn palm

i meant you use either a virtual or physical switch to turn optimus off

thorn palm

It’s virtual

#

Oh

#

Mux is usually controlled in bios

And then there’s advanced optimus which can switch mux on/off dynamically as you launch GPU heavy apps

#

But it’s extremely jank

#

Nvidia: it just works™️

that should eb nvidias name tbh

I guess I should have specified. I'd prefer an OLED screen tbh so is that the average battery life for an OLED device then ?

thorn palm
#

what preference do you have on oled over WXUGA?

#

tehy can be as bright and have similar color accuracy

inland trench
#

Doesn't the OLED have better contrast and a better refresh rate ? idk much about this topic tbh

thorn palm
#

WXUGA can be good too

#

you just need to know what to look for

inland trench

about a 1000 - 1100$

Do be warned of burn in

#

Laptop panels tend to burn in relatively quick

Do they actually? I have an OLED for about 6 years which was my daily driver for 3 of those years with no burn in, I know this is anecdotal but what's the actual %age of burn in that happen if anyone knows also does the resolution you run the oled at matter?

potent sable
#

Laptop OLEDs are the most prone to burn in

#

I’ve seen like 6 month old display models get burn in
