Hello, last night a friend was helping me build my computer, all was going well, we updated bios and everything was good, cpu temps were good. We went to install windows and as it was installing, the CPU overheated, now everytime we start the PC, the Corsair H150i (Elite XT) starts as normal and after a few seconds it begins to blink red, and the cpu temp skyrockets, going up roughly a degree (Celsius) per second. Also now the BOOT led on the motherboard now lights up, everytime it hits 100C we turn it off as a precaution

To clarify, CPU overheated during windows install, now it begins to overheat within a minute, and when I plug the windows USB in it says system needs repair
To continue, sometimes when we turn it on it says “ windows install cannot continue, press OK to restart the computer” when we press OK, nothing happens
Try remounting the cooler and checking the thermal paste speed
I did take it off and remount it, what do you mean by thermal paste speed?
Sorry I meant spread, did it cover the whole cpu?
I’ll have to check, give me a few minutes
Did you take the plastic off the AIO copper
Yes, this is the only plastic that was on it, after that it was thermal paste
Can you hear the pump working?
Did you plug the pump into a header
I can’t hear it, but I can feel the tubes moving, yes one three pin connector from the pump is in the CPU_FAN header, the other cord goes to the commander Core
Just curious, but how do you know that the CPU is overheating?
We can briefly get into bios, it goes from 40ish C ( if we let it sit for 15 ish mins) to 100 within a minute. That’s when we turn it off, we did try once not turning it off and it auto shut down around 115C
Oh ok
Have you tried clearing CMOS to make sure no overlocking and voltages are normal?
How do you clear CMOS? I have not tried it yet but it’s worth a shot
There is a circle battery on the motherboard you take out. Sometimes on more expensive motherboards theere is a clear CMOS button the back of the motherboard
So you take it out and then what?
Then wait a few seconds and put it back in. Then all BIOS settings will be reset. There are plenty of videos on YouTube if you need help doing it
Ok thanks
NP
Will keep ya posted if it works
Alright
Wait did you say that the PUMP is into a FAN HEADER????
You can put it into cpu fan header or pump header
It should be in the cpu pump or optional
My AIO states that I can put my header in the pump header of cpu fan header
But could be different depending on AIO
Yeah I’m pretty sure Corsair ones can’t but I don’t know
Oh ok. I had no clue. I’m thinking about putting mine in the pump header when I get home.
Your better safe than sorry
True
Unfortunately it’s a three pin header, doesn’t change anything if I put it in the CPU_FAN or PUMPFAN1
Reset bios, nothing changed, I did notice one of the voltage values went up, but apart from that nothing has changed
Interesting. I’m honestly not sure what to do next. Does it look like the pump and the cpu are making good contact?
Should I try plugging the pump into the commander core 😏
Yeah, I’ve taken the pump off and put it back on a few times as well
Corsair support has the worst hours though, M-F 8-2
I’m honestly not sure what to do next. Hopefully someone else posts on here to help.
Thanks for trying though!
Which CPU do you have in your system?
Ryzen 9 5900X, sorry for the delayed response
Yeah the TjMax for that chip is 90°c so going all the way up to a 100°c can cause damage.
Welp.
When you had the liquid cooler installed, did the tubes feel hot? Was one hotter than another or was the block itself hot but tubes cold?
No, they both didn’t really feel different, more room temp than anything
Well, where the tubes met the pump, they were super warm
Pump's toast.
Do you have another cooler?
No
That seems to be the general consensus, sucks because I just got it for Christmas
I would honestly skip the whole Corsair customer support entirely since the AIO appears to be DOA. If you have warranty, now would be a good time to claim it.
Do you have a warranty?
Id have to check that
I don’t think so as it came from as a Christmas present, and most likely from Amazon, but there’s a chance
According to google it should come with a 5 year warranty
Contact Amazon support and they will put you in contact with the seller for a replacement
Even if it came as a gift I’ll be able to?
My recommendation is that you send the AIO off to warranty and in the mean time get something like an AG400 from a local retailer so you can get the system setup and running. When you have the new AIO, you can install it in your system and have the AG400 in storage as a backup cooler.
In general it's always a good idea to have an aircooler as a backup cooler in case the AIO suddenly fails.
Ok, thanks
Yes just use the purchasing account
super late reply, but I ended up running to best buy to buy a 55 dollar tower cooler for the time being, works like a charm! the general thought is that the pump was dead on the liquid cooler, sent a warranty claim into corsair report so I guess ill be waiting for that
I was going to say, buy an air cooler off Amazon or something and give it a go. Nice thing about tower coolers, very few points of failure.
