#85C at idle with i7-9700k and Corsair H115i AIO Cooling

Hello,

I've just upgraded my computer with a new CPU and a new Aio cooler.
Before I was using i5-8400 with stock intel air cooler and had around 40C idle and 95C at full blast.

I've updated my motherboard bios to the newest version and I've installed the aio cooler in the front of my case, because there isn't space in the top.
The cables run into the top of the aio cooler and It's above the pump. I've tried plugging header cable into both CPU_FAN_1 and PUMP 1 headers on my motherboard, and there was no difference in temps or in the bios about how I could set pump to 100%.

I've then tried to switch my old CPU back in with the new cooler to check if the cooler was broken and it performed perfectly, 30C idle and I could only get it to run 70C at full blast in games. I then switched back in my new CPU (i7-9700k) and it was again having way to high temps. As I'm writing this message with a 10% load I'm at 90-95C. I've tried pegging the pump at 100% and adjusting the curves in bios, but It's like it doesn't even do anything. (both with cable in cpu fan header and pump fan header)

I have around 1600 rpms according to bios at 95C and according to the iCue Link software I have 3200 rpms on the pump and it doesn't let me change it in the software either.

My motherboard is a MSI 370z Gaming Plus.

Any help would be appreciated!

Also I can monitor temps in the radiator and it never goes over 60C and I can never feel it being hot after running for a while.
I can feel the cable going out of the CPU is hot and the cable going in is cold.

#

The pump gets power from a Sata port on my PSU.

#

I can't hear any air inside the aio cooler and I've done all the "get air out" practices like tiliting and running pump at max.

#

How much power is it using at idle?

either you rma that aio

night panther
#

Here in English :)

livid spear
#

because there's a very high chance of it being broken

#

or you take it off

#

and check if you left the peel off

night panther

night panther

I did take the peel off.

livid spear
night panther
#

I did take it off

livid spear
#

Remove it and check the thermal paste pattern

night panther
#

I did.

#

It's good spread

#

I can send picture

livid spear
#

Sure

#

also what thermal paste did you use

night panther
#

Uh, some Dezen Thermal Compound 12W

livid spear
night panther
#

It will do the job? 😂

livid spear
#

No, obviously it isn't doing its job

night panther
#

I had 30C with old crappy 5 year thermal paste from my i5 with same cooler tho?

livid spear
#

the problem is the way you applied it

#

like holy shit

#

that is the worst thermal paste pattern I think I have ever seen

#

except the one on my ryzen 5 3600

night panther
#

😂

#

First time applying thermal paste

livid spear
#

I can see that

night panther
#

I just put a peck in the middle.

livid spear
#

Well, there's your problem

#

alright so, here's what you'll do

#

Remove that thermal paste using isypropol alcohol

#

after that

#

apply an x pattern on the cpu with the thermal paste

#

and also apply 4 dots

night panther
#

You sure?

livid spear
#

in each angle of the x

livid spear
night panther
#

It isn't my pump

livid spear
#

it dropped temps by 4 degrees celcius

night panther
#

Not 5-10 😅

livid spear
livid spear
night panther
#

I really don't think it can be that. If it is that how would it run 30C with 5 year old thermal paste on the same cooler?

livid spear
#

stop

#

fucking

#

asking

#

questions

#

You saw it yourself

#

the thermal paste pattern is terrible

night panther
#

Okay, I'll be back in 10 minutes

livid spear
#

I'm no wizard, I have no idea how it ran well for 5 years

night panther
#

I really don't believe this is the issue.

If it has contact it has contact, yes I know the right pattern, paste, thickness and spread can result in different temps. But only like +-10%, not 95C at idle bad temps. There is obviously something wrong with the cooler or the CPU.

night panther
#

I didn't run it like that for 5 years.

lusty trellis
#

and mounting pressure also affects how well it'll cool

night panther
#

The pictures are from after I took out my i7 took put in the i5.

#

I was running the i5 with stock cooler for 5 years no problem.

night panther
#

I tried mounted it twice now.

#

Is there any way to peg pump to 100% outside bios?

lusty trellis
#

no

#

and tbh you don't want the pump to be constantly at 100%

#

what aio is it?

night panther
#

Corsair H115i

night panther
#

I have listed everything I've tried and all the information there.

livid spear
#

@night panther did you try to re apply the thermal paste

lusty trellis
#

paste change, redoing the fan curves, or getting a better aio instead would be ideal

livid spear
night panther
#

So I should just buy a new aio cooler.

lusty trellis
night panther
#

Dezen Thermal Compound 12W

lusty trellis
#

how long have you had that paste?

#

@livid spearpastes do have a shelf life

night panther
lusty trellis
night panther
lusty trellis
#

a decent one yes, and it doesn't even need to break the bank for one

#

peerless assassin 120 for example, $35 and beats a noctua nh-d15

night panther
#
lusty trellis
#

yup

night panther
# lusty trellis yup

Alright, I'll get the cpu tested in another system to see if the cpu is broken and then ill order that

night panther
#

I've tested the CPU in another system and it works perfectly fine with normal temps.
The cooler works perfectly fine aswell? Is my motherboard just reading the temps wrong? Is my motherboard not working properly??? What is happening?

If temps are normal on another cpu but also better on a different motherboard this sounds like a motherboard issue maybe try a bios update
