IPS panels tend to have this backlight bleed. not much can be done about it other than getting a model with local dimming.

Yea you if you want total black and vibrant colors you might want to opt for OLED version

Well im almost certain my laptops display isn't oled and its pretty black

#

Maybe its just the IPS thing

#

Is there anything I can do about it in terms of the monitor / windows settings?

#

Maybe it's exacerbated somehow

If you want high quality display look into HDR specification. For watching movies HDR600 should be the sweetspot.

Yes i can see that

So theres nothing I can do?

#

Calibration etc

No. The display just isnt capable of displaying 100%bright at the same time as 0% because the LCD panel is weak and cant block all the backlight.

#

Your dell looks better because the panel is better.

Got it. just don't get why you're referring to it as LCD?

Because it is

#

Ips is lcd

signal osprey
#

So whats the point of advertising it as LED

Lcd is used by chinese brands to advertise generic, cheap monitors. Led is for the same stuff sold by brands with marketing budgets.

# signal osprey Same with the color vibrance?

Backlight(led) shines all colors(white) trough a panel. The panel(lcd) filters out unwanted colors. So yes. The monitor looks to be particulary bad. Next time look for HDR600 monitors because of local diming.
