Hello, recently i've been getting hard shutdowns on my pc. After trying to restart it using power button it does not immediately restart. I have to unplug the pc and turn off the power supply switch and plug back in and turn P.S switch on and everything returns to normal (no bluescreen or any error messages pop up prior) I have checked event viewer and the only info i can gleam is a "Kernal-Power event 41". I have also run cinebench for 8 minutes and it completes the benchmark however when i run furmark stress test after 4-6 minutes i get a Hard Shutdown, to me this seems to be a power supply or possably a GPU issue. the specs are a Ryzen 3700XT, RTX 2070S and an asrock pro4 motherbord. I have fully updated Bios and updated GPU drivers. ive also tried different power outlets. any help would be appreciated.

what psu do you have
built the pc in 2018 and this is the first major issue with it
also running HW at idle this is the only "red warning" i get which furthur leads to believe its a PSU issue
temps on gpu and cpu are normal however i noticed the "GPU hotspot temp reaches 85c" however its always been like that
id recommend the corsair rm750e or 850e for a psu replacement
yeah thats ok. its a little warm, but not bad
Possibly the power supply fan broke. When I restart the PC the power supply fan does not run however it's at idle. I'm going to test under load but that will take me some time to set up
Perhaps the PSU overtemp protection is kicking in
Yes after a full load my PSU fan does not run at all so that's probably it thanks
got it thanks
I agree with creeper just replace the psu still sucks to have to replace it tho
yeah its a huge pain the ass to have to rewire it but at least its not my Gpu/mobo
can i still use the pc for browsing during the time being?
Here’s my order of worst things to have to change out
- Case
- Mobo
- Psu
at least i know the overtemp protection works lol
Yeah just don’t put everything under heavy load
yep thats the plan
The fact that it’s hard shutting down is good
That is the overtemp protection stepping in
i mean i could try to replace the fan since i know the PSU itself is still fine
NO do not open it
^^^^
You open it there’s a good chance you die and get thrown across the room
It’s that much power
well, maybe not thrown across the room, but you would die
dont worry i wont. lol
Depending what in it you touch you could get thrown across the room but either way
this is the one? https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-RM750e-Modular-Low-Noise-Supply/dp/B0BYR1BXC6/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=rm750e&s=electronics&sr=1-3&th=1

Yeah that’s good
yep
Corsair in general makes really good power supply’s that are reliable and just simple yet good
some of them arent good
okay cool overall not the worst thing that can happen.im hoping to get a few more years outa my build
but that one is in A tier
https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/
Yeah the older but new ones generally are real good
yeah
I have a rm750 not e but even that is a tier
i mean as long as it lasts as good as my current one ill be happy
I got it real cheap to it was on sale I think $80
the microcenter one i got i paid $60 i think'
(Normally at the time it was $150)
but it was a huge deal normaly its $90
Nice
i would have to use all the cables that comes with the PSU right i cant just plug and play the cables from my old PSU right?
Yeah never mix and match psu cables
Unless you order cable mod cables that are specifically for that exact psu
alright and i would have enough cables for evrything right?
yep
Yeah it comes with all them
corsair is pretty good at keeping the same cables, and if they dont, they have the "generation" of cables for each one
okay cool thats what i figured. sata power cables are fine to use the old ones right?
what?
No get rid of all the old psus cables
Not a single one should stay
yeah
oh wait maybe im stupid sata power comes from the MOBO right so i dont have to touch that
No
whatever cable that goes from my HDD to PSU? i might be dumb here
