#GPU underperforming

I have a HP Pavllion laptop with Ryzen 5 5600h and GTX 1650 and 16gb dual dual channel ram (3200 mhz). I have noticed my gpu clocks at 1380 mhz maximum. Today while scrolling through youtube i saw benchmark videos of the same laptop getting higher clock speed than mine at around 1785 mhz. Through Nvidia control panel i checked that maximum boost clock of my gpu was 1515 mhz but it never goes upto that.

probably thermally limited

lean linden
#

Is there any way I can change that?

#

Also my thermals are quite good I've monitored them with afterburner and GPU never exceeds 60 while gaming

copper brook
#

are you plugged into the wall or on battery?

lean linden
#

Plugged in

chrome furnace
#

well laptop love to have low one of 2 thing being theraml limited or power limited

lean linden
#

Well I should be at least getting the same performance for the same model

chrome furnace
#

well no

#

there can be many factor that make one to other run slower or faster

#

eg how much power chip take and how well the paste was applied and the game pach

#

ambent temp

lean linden
#

A difference of ±5 fps is acceptable but a gap so big is unacceptable

#

Is there any way I can do smth?

chrome furnace
#

are you running same game same setting same pach with minalee background tasks

lean linden
#

No background apps are running

#

Same game

#

With lower settings

#

Still not even close

chrome furnace
#

how did you check clocks and temps

lean linden
#

MSI afterburner and Riva tuner

#

I'm trying the same driver version now

chrome furnace
#

ok check gpu limit reson

lean linden
lean linden
#

I couldn't find anything on the power limit but ive noticed it capping at 25W

chrome furnace
#

what was gpu limt reson

#

voltage power threaml or idle

lean linden
#

Wait let me check

#

Idk what exactly you are asking but here is the power draw clock etc

chrome furnace
#

ok its call gpu performance limiters

lean linden
#

Is there anything I can do to improve the performance?

chrome furnace
#

well if its power you can try incress it

lean linden
#

How

chrome furnace
#

so it is power

chrome furnace
lean linden
#

Power and thermal

chrome furnace
#

it will be one at are time

lean linden
#

Oh only power

chrome furnace
#

well increasing power limit will tank battery life

lean linden
#

I mostly use the laptop plugged in

#

So idc

chrome furnace
#

do you have any softwere to incress power limit eg msi after burner

lean linden
#

Yes I have msi afterburner

chrome furnace
#

and undervolting can help with it as well

lean linden
chrome furnace
#

voltage is lock but the clock for each clock speed is unlocked

lean linden
#

Yes

#

The memory clock works but when I increase core clock it doesn't seem to do anything

chrome furnace
#

is it clocking high with more power buget

lean linden
#

Wdym

chrome furnace
#

did you mess with power limit

lean linden
#

No

chrome furnace
#

hit ctrl F

#

with afterberning as ative windo

lean linden
#

Did

chrome furnace
#

did the VF windo open

lean linden
#

Yes

chrome furnace
#

have fun with making it faster

lean linden
#

What do I increase

chrome furnace
#

incress clock for each voltage

lean linden
#

Aight

chrome furnace
#

you want lowest voltage for each clock speed for efficiency but you need more voltage for higher clocks that why VF cuves are used

lean linden
#

Ok

#

I increased each my +50 but the clock is still at 1380

chrome furnace
#

limit

lean linden
#

So there is nothing I can do?

chrome furnace
#

try more

#

did you hit apply

lean linden
#

Yes

chrome furnace
#

got the right gpu picked in afterbuner

lean linden
#

Yes

lean linden
chrome furnace
#

and still nothing if you just use the basic slider

lean linden
#

Yep

#

As I said memory clock worked core clock did nothing

robust silo
#

You should try tweaking power settings of windows

#

Maybe you are in some power saver mode or NOT-performance mode

lean linden
#

I am using ultimate performance mode

chrome furnace
robust silo
lean linden
#

I was using high performance mode earlier

#

Still same thing

robust silo
#

Use the balanced power plan

#

And check the power management setting in nvidia control panel
