#looking for a relatively small case
1 messages · Page 4 of 1
i sent picks earlier of surface and penetrating rust
looks different, it's still rust but at different stages
so is scale, like, before surface
you never want to have it at penetrating let alone scale rust
after
oh so scale is like medium rust
surface rust is where it's not even penetrated through
penetrating rust
it's the combination of no protection, air and moisture, and the less protection and more moisture, the more it penetrates
so is scale and penetrating rust a no buy deal breaker?
and is surface rust okay to buy?
and if salt is added to it, the more corrosive it will be
surface rust is fine because it can be dealt with quickly using a wire brush/sandpaper, some rust converter and then spraying over with a primer, mid coat and clear coat on top
so basically just painting over it after sanding it down
whats the rust converter tho
ik about primer and mid coat / core coat and clear coat. its just like nails.
but what idk is what paint you use
what paint is okay for vehicles to use?
paints that are designed for vehicles, they're colour matchable to the vehicle
rust converter is for any rust that can be left over when cleaning it off
so any rust leftover after sanding it down basically.
it's a spray paint, but i can't say for sure what materials it's made of for the paint itselfd
what if some rust gets leftover by accident? can it spread again?
there will always be a faint amount left over
can i use spray paint that i can buy from walmart?
and rust isn't directly able to be painted on
so rust convertewr stablizes it so you can
they have a large in store spray paint section
if it's designed for uise on a car's exterior yes, but if it's crafting spray paint, no
right not before sanding it, and then using the converter on it first
sand, then converter on
how would you know. i dont think spray paint is usually an arts an crafts spray
like will it say so on the bottle ig
there is, alot of acrilic based spray cans are for arts and crafts only
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/2072547459810737/ <- in america this would be $30k instead of £10k that it is in the uk
is it always spray paint or are there other methods for painting cars
and that's not as a conversion, it's also what's been done to it
nope it's a spray paint for large areas, though if it's a scratch you can get small touch up paing jars
yeah but why
look at it, and look how it's been built out
no ik
but im asking why is everything so much cheaper in the uk
why are all the vanlife vehicles so expensive in the states
when converting
we're a stronger currency, so even if it looks cheaper it doesn't mean that it is
UGH no thats not what im asking
also different levels of inflation
i feel like its cause of the vanlife trend
which is dumb
it means im getting into this late, and all of the cheap vanlife vans, went up in price because of a bandwagon
im gonna have to find an unconventional van unless i want to pay extra premiums
you're going to pay premiums due to material costs anyways because 'merica
it's not because of that
im pretty sure it is
because if you look back at videos, everyone was talking about how the promaster and ford transit were cheaper
now they are basically inaccessable
because ford transits are cheap, especially on parts for replacements
yeah well, not here lol
it's one of the cheapest for converting out
i cant even find a promaster in my area for less than 10k
and that's supposed to be cheaper than the ford transit
i like the promaster cause its more boxy
lol
it's what RoW sees you as
im guessing this change in the market must have happened within the last 3-4 years.
fucking sucks.
what should i go for, diesel or gas?
like which fuel type
what is RoW?
rest of world
do i have to learn how to build a car in order to understand cars
car as in / vehicles
need new thermal paste? check out YeesterPaste and all my thermal paste accessories! www.yeesterpaste.com
also, i saw someone did this, and was wondering if it is a customization option? or like
why would anyone paint their cpu
if you're moving around short distances a lot, petrol, if you're traveling long distances, like interstate traveling then diesel is better
no this is dumb, and means your cpu will be running hotter
well what if it was a different color
whats petrol
no, but it does help a lot if you are on your own stuck somewhere and have to jury-rig something to get it working repair something
gasoline to you yanks
that's what it's short for
again, pretty common sense thing
LTT was a good starting point for me with pcs
nope, but you can watch a ton of mechanics vids
i just feel like if i do that, the information will be needles in haystacks
and i also feel like it would be mostly a large time investment due to poor videos.
not because the info is hard
is there any other resource i can do?
its not like i can ask my dad
this is why i like shorts / reels / tiktok because the info is told to you within 10 seconds.
instead of it being like. lets get to know this person and his character and about his dog and about the sponsor
im scared that the info that i learn is proprietory too. like what if i learn about honda elements, well now i gotta learn another vehicle. is there any way i can learn like the general stuff.
i dont want to have to learn how to build a ford transit and then know nothing about anything else
or learn how to build a car and then know nothing about vanlife vehicles because theyre different in some unforseen way i couldnt predict
i have been to alaska and i was born in colorado
when i do vanlife i plan to do some exploring eventually in the US
but honestly might just enjoy rent free living for awhile in ohio
before i finally up and leave
i want to get to new york
Too expensive unless you magically get a remote job
Still applies
¯_(ツ)_/¯
rent is insane tho, but i wont be paying that
If you live like you have nothing it’s not that expensive
If you actually go out and do stuff things are usually marked up majorly
Than some other state
Just live in Alaska
i mean, even if i spend $500 on food only. i would still be comfortable in new york city
but i doubt itll be that bad
$500 a week?
im not going back to alaska lmao
500/week wouldn’t be bad, but what are you gonna do there
Sleep and eat?
i would be working
hopefully less hours and a higher wage at that point
more opportunities too
and the most people on the regular in the US
the only other times where there is a higher gathering of people in the US outside of new york city, is literally when there is some kind of convention like certain anime conventions for example become larger than new york city.
but i sort of want to either eventually, get a van built in europe and do the same thing over there, or have my van flown out
im p sure vanlife is illegal in hawaii tho
but only hawaii p much
and maybe seattle but im not sure
no state or federal laws
but im p sure some city laws
especially hawaii tho
theres also just nothing up in alaska for me tbh
besides like site seeing
but ive already seen
so
nothing in colorado for me either except 1 - 2 good cities in the middle of nowhere.
i spent a lot of my life there tho
i would rather be on west coast or texas than colorado
a lot going on in texas
cali would just be cool for like older life, and proximity to hawaii
also, if im relatively quick about it, i could get this done and end up retiring the van maybe.
but tbh doubt i would want to go back
then i could keep the van at the house
i just doubt it cause i honestly dont think / expect the housing market will crash soon or ever tbh.
i even think a dip is unlikely.
it would take a lot for the rsi to drop that low to make a small dip anyway, and it would be followed by literally just more growth
so yeah. im not waiting for the housing market to crash lmao
more like waiting to get rich
yeah, don't wait for a crash
if a crash happens and you have the means to, then invest in it
exactly and in which case, i would have the money on the side
but with everything price in as it stands, yeah i honestly cant predict the future but it would have to be some big thing.
like maybe wwiii or like idk.
inflation didnt do shit except make the housing market grow more lmao.
im p sure we can say right now, that the housing market is literally the best it has ever been ever
it doesn't necessarily have to be something that big
the entire economy was down just earlier this year, I'm pretty sure almost every major stock has doubled since then
yeah but tbh i think thats just fuss
nothing came of it
the entire economy was struggling and the housing market still said 🤷♀️
the housing market said that as well before previous crashes
it's gonna come randomly and out of the blue
you're not gonna know when it's going to crash
nope, full on mechanic's vids, the only thing that's proprietary to a vehicle is the programming for the onboard computer which is the brains of it all, all the mechanical side and most of the electrics are generic (though the wiring for a car can be under 1000's upon 1000's of different colouring combo's for each model depending on the year it's made
you do realise a professional mechanic pretty much has to know 1000's of different setups due to different car manufacturers engineers, though most of it is the same just in different locations
that moment when you've left your country without leaving your country
never invest in homes, invest in land instead
why not??, was he never taught the basics of vehicle maintenance at all??
this is the worst way to learn, as it teaches you nothing
yes
10 seconds is enough just to teach you a fuse swap/internal lightbulb replacement
not enough to teach you how to rewire a light to convert it over to led's or the like
Anything that’s not plug and play (like a lightbulb swap) needs at least a minute imo
And even with a lightbulb swap, if it’s not intuitive, it would need more time
especially headlights, that's a 5 minute job for bulb replacement
unless it's a newer headlight on a car like a bmw/merc
some of those are sealed units which you have to take the whole headlight out to swap them over
Give praise to the current presidential administration 😎
Would you tho?
i dont think you would, unless it happens in the next 30 years
It's one of those things, like when people in U.S. say they dont have there passport
like whaaaa
how do you live
You could put homes up for rent, if you are fine with the headache
nah, i've left a country while staying in my country technically
I didn’t have a passport till 6 months ago. Went to Peru to meet my fiancés parents
you don't need a passport to leave a country in U.S., you only need a card that lets you goto like mexico
doesn't return as much profit as holding land does
depends on how long outcome you want imo
f
nor do you when you live in the uk, to travel locally
Real estate in general holds immense value
yea
Even when housing plummets the land is still worth a lot cause of the house on it
also, as i'm a brit, and the uk is made up of 4 countries technically
it's worth way more if you got the mineral rights
eurasia :D
But in general if you’re gonna invest in something that actually holds value…invest in precious metals. Gold specifically
it's like doing that in a sense
true
Gold has held its value better then anything in history
not as precious
We should all buy gold at the same time
And sell it in a 3rd world country plumeting its economy
1g of palladium/rhodium is like 10x gold prices
Diamonds are worth more then gold but it’s not something you can just invest into that holds value like gold lol
Because it’s not in abundance like gold and not as well protected by government as gold
iridium sounds fun to invest in
germanium just doesnt have that
spacey out of this world name sound
sounds like a lame gum name
Good just holds it value better if you wanna use it for retirement or whatever
Yea true
it holds better than steel does
and it's constantly needed, so it makes a steady revenue
what is it used for?
copper?
it's also rust resistant
@burnt dune get a car thats made out of hanium
ez never worry about rust
I’m not trynna make money on gold I’m tryna use it as a wealth holder lol
Why do that, when you can make money?
Copper and steel value moves all the time gold doesn’t
does it move down?
No not really
then gold is the least wisest to invest in tbh
Oh copper and steel yea
Dude I’m not justifying trynna make money on it
I’m saying it’s good to invest into if you want a retirement and to not lose your money in something like a 401k
copper fluctuates but on a minor scale, steel prices has to much of a fluctuation
Copper fluctuates much more then gold tho
oh yeah, you americans have to worry about that
Gold is a great invest meant for holding wealth for long periods of time
Because even when inflation goes through the roof golds value doesn’t drop
Yea our government is kinda an emotional roller coaster so
between steel and copper though, you make more per kilo of copper than you do per ton of steel
316 stainless would be better tbh
true
it's a steel alloy for marine use
if i could afford a boat, i'd be living on it
a yatch?
fuck no, small cargo ship
yeah, you can basically be a floating city on one
true
yes
Fun should do it
small cargo ships are like 35t carrying capacity
ha kilos I forgot you guys use the metric system
eh we use both
I dont really get why imperial system is used. It legit has 0reason to be used
It was implemented as a easier way to sell and trade goods but doesn’t really make sense anymore tbh
It’s been tried to move but it’s so adopted now I don’t think it ever will
Tbh feet and inches kinda makes sense but fractions nahhhhh
Just use decimal values it’s easier lol
fractions are shit for measuring. why the fuck would you use a "1/16" of an inch instead of a "1/10" of an inch
the fact that like 3-4 countries in the entire world use it doesnt help
Well fractions aren’t use as much but pounds and Fahrenheit are still in use which I’m okay with
Yards, feet, inches etc not bad I just don’t like the bs standard system of measurement
i wish i could
its $60k used, just need a good remote job, and, a loan
yeah land is better
so like the programming you mean that almost every vehicle has a mini computer inside it even if it's not a fancy new one with a screen?
no i dont realize that why i asked
i have my passport
but almost no one has one.
that would be cool. be a landlord living out of a van lmao
Houses would be too expensive in this market for you to afford that and a van
But ig yea
Would be kinda sad
Corn wheat and gold are p stable and have their peaks, good to go for but I have no clue why a produce has its own stock since its not assigned to a specific company
Living in your car rather than the house that you rented away
#takeovercornwheat
uhh, nah you need a passport. you can get the card or the book. the card lets you do mexico and canada only. but its still a passport. the book is basically anywhere. its considered the "international passport"
thats the whole situation in Vegas
the same reason why you can bid on pirates in samalia with crypto
money go brr
not gbp right
And today I'm going spendinga again prolly as I'll see if I can find a ram kit for my laptop, 12gb ain't enough
which one ik the names
I said the card
He just told you, the one in the country beside
Ireland
oh cool
Me when poppoo tax
They charge you for everything here lol , lad I'm not a proper member of society
yet (can't even get a job)
ireland had it really rough.
i hear its pretty. people should go there more
population is only just now starting to recover
any modern car has 2-3 computers in it essentially
the main one is known as the ECU
An electronic control unit (ECU), also known as an electronic control module (ECM), is an embedded system in automotive electronics that controls one or more of the electrical systems or subsystems in a car or other motor vehicle.
Modern vehicles have many ECUs, and these can include some or all of the following: engine control module (ECM), pow...
there's even the ecm which is called ecu also
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engine_control_unit
An engine control unit (ECU), also called an engine control module (ECM), is a device which controls multiple systems of an internal combustion engine in a single unit. Systems commonly controlled by an ECU include the fuel injection and ignition systems.
The earliest ECUs (used by aircraft engines in the late 1930s) were mechanical-hydraulic un...
This is a list of auto parts, which are manufactured components of automobiles. This list reflects both fossil-fueled cars (using internal combustion engines) and electric vehicles; the list is not exhaustive. Many (not all) of these parts are also used on other motor vehicles such as trucks and buses.
https://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/how-to/a7386/how-it-works-the-computer-inside-your-car/ @burnt dune
like whole pcs, probably not a gpu tho huh
okay so each system has a different computer
oh okay so this
so computer doesnt = cpu
pc = a type of computer
usually an entertainment based computer like desktops, and laptops and some 2in1 tablets ig.
but you wouldnt call your smartphone a pc
you would use computer
or computer for most tablets too.
but ig most tablets now can be used like a desktop or laptop
nothing like a pc at all, but a pc can connect to it
i guess they are called ECUs
nowadays if a sensor goes on a car, the car basically goes into a safe mode/limp home mode, but if the ecu dies it's either scrap the vehicle or pay $300+ for a new ecu that has to be reprogrammed to the vehicles specs and sensors
some sensors can be cleaned and re-used, others need a full replacement
i guess some cars with the really nice displays, or with better camera stuff could have a gpu
ai stuff is different, but for straight camera to display no gpu is needed
que, why talk about gpus? It's going to be wayyy out of your budget
The cars you're looking for would might still have radio afaik
as there main entertainment system
with any display, it needs some kind of gpu
i guess ecus use ram too, but its not called ram its called KAM
tbf you can build your own car infotainment system using linux
oh wow
what is an infotainment system
like, as in not an entertainment system right?
information and entertainment system all wrapped up in one
For dream I dont think they could do it
unless they hired someone to do it
which i also doubt someone would take that job
without a pretty big price
nah you can get 3rd party ones that are built into a radio nowadays that are stupidly easy to fit in
thats it im stealing tesla lidar gpus
not when it comes to camera straight to screen
4090s are just to overpriced
for any interactive screen ig
@lunar night modern version of one, https://www.ebay.com/itm/364084389193
USB A ew
usb thumbdrive with a fuckton of movies/music on
why do that, when you can use cellular and stream movies
because you don't have to if you don't ever need to, and with some countries, mobile internet can be more costly than landline/fibre based internet
F
lets be honest here, cellular signal can be a pain when on the go/doing certain things
Why
ew
Again, I ask, why
usba isnt bad really. usbb is eh but mirco usbb was one of my favorite connectors.
tbh, love the usbc world we live in today tho. i want usba and usbb to just go away now
i wonder what usbd will be like tbh
or if we will get a mini usbc or micro usbc
lol mini usbc is an oval and micro usbc is a dot lmao
one day who knows
how they fit the pins in a usbc is already a feat as is
its usually just the shape, i wonder if a usbd could ever exist even if its like 100 years into the future. i honestly cant imagine anything after usbc that isnt completely out there
that isnt air or magnetic
like maybe eventually itll be so small its just a dot, and you have to use magnetic one day.
to line up the dot
it makes me think usbd might not ever happen in my lifetime tbh and itll just be micro usbc or something.
I’d imagine usb d as a sort of larger usb c with way more pins for like full DP or something like that
I hope they don’t shrink usb c. It’s already really small and making it smaller would probably just make it more expensive and weaker
yeah i agree
im smart enough to know i know nothing but i question if usbc really is the best shape for a connector at its fundamental level. I know that back in the day people thought we would never get a usbc and talking about a usbc especially after micro b, was kind of a joke. and it only took 7 years to get there.
its definitely an improvement from usbb.
and ik the technical naming would make the next size down from usbc = mini c first.
which i feel like would make things confusing for people in the future who dont know the history. but ik they most likely wont jump from usbc to micro c in one jump if that were to happen. even if mini c looks insanely small to us in the future, and the idea of micro c would just be insane.
its hard to imagine that future.
its almost been 9 years since usbc
so my guess is any engineering into that would be harder and harder not faster and faster
yeah that would be cool, there is still a lot more room to engineer things imo with hdmi and dp and seeing thunderbolt could be foreshadowing something more.
i wonder what else you can put into one cord and connector tho
I think the next logical step is to change to x8 or x16 pcie on any major data transfer change for usb/thunderbolt
Although, it would also make cable quality a huge deal. It already is pretty important with pcie x4 on the current tbt
yeah which im okay with. i think the market is heading that way too with the nylon braided ones etc
still scared of manufacturers trying to inflate the price on some random feature on a cord tho
so since some cases can have more fans than other cases, it makes some cases much more expensive than the advertised price?
so i should look into case fans at the same time as case too
i thought case fans were cheap?
no
What you need is to buy a computer that'll fit more into your budget
I mean think about the van
and how expensive it'll be
You should spend $1.5k on the computer
im p sure the gpu is gonna be more expensive than 1.5k as is
not really
im getting a 4090 and some went up in price so im looking at about 2k for that alone
Enthusiast AMD Gaming/Streaming Build
Not within your budget
Yes, it will
Because it’s going to be a 4090
What?
Her gpu is going to be a 4090 which as an MSRP of $1600
still What?
You heard me
nah, it will be any form factor
Matx form factor?
Montech air 100
but most likely close to 40L
Didn't, What?
Enthusiast AMD Gaming/Streaming Build
Atx form factor?
Montech air 903
40L is the worst type of case description you can describe
what if the height is 5" and the width is 40ft
i dont think that exists
Sarcasm
that won’t be 40L
but any orientation is fine, but like i probably wont choose a desktop / sandwhich style case
No it’s not
just cause towers have smaller footprint.
Find case, that can fit your dimensions of the components you chose
que? desktop/tower?
Pc case
thats not as big of an issue if its not itx
Why dont you go for an openair design
what is that
do pcie gen 5 riser cables exist?
so gen 4 riser cables are the highest
but the 4090 is gen 4 so it doesnt matter
As far as full 16x slots goes
Please pick one
Seriously
Imo, atx would be best for you as a first time builder
well im looking at atx cases now
they have LED cases too?
like opposed from ARGB?
what is ARGB and how is it different from RGB. im like worried about the emi stuff. and i just want to learn more about RGB in general
ik A stands for addressable
Led means light emitting diode and can be any light
is RGB better than LED
Argb means addressable rgb
im guessing RGB = red green blue
So each light can be independently controlled for like 16 million colors or something
Yep
5v argb and 12v rgb
i thought it was theres 2 types of RGB >> ARGB and some other RGB
oh so RGB is only 12v
and ARGB is only 5v
meaning RGB uses more power?
and ARGB is newer?
Argb means each individual light can be controlled
12v rgb is usually for rgb strips and the whole strip is changed at the same time
this guy just recommended this
No, it just uses a different voltage
is there a 3rd type of RGB or is it just ARGB and RGB
Who?
PC builder on YT
Ok, but who
im talking about PC RGB
his name is PC builder
And I’m not surprised, it’s a killer deal
that's his channel name
Ohhh
he's not bad tbh
so with cases, sometimes fans are included and sometimes fans are not included?
oh okay
so whats DRGB??
I think it’s the same as Argb
so i need to get my case priorities straight
Yes. That’s part of the reason the montech air 903 is such a good deal, especially the max
the most important thing is airflow right?
which impacts >> cooling temp of all parts >> slight performance
Another plus of the air 903
what is the 2nd most important thing to look at for cases?
Well, number 1 is making sure it fits all your components. But you knew that
right compat
i think compat is always a hidden #1 priority when choosing all parts that i always make sure of but then i look at the real priorities after each part
Yes
then maybe size
What kind of size
so maybe
#1 compat (with your parts)
#2 airflow
#3 size (that the case takes up)
#4 aesthetics
Yeah sounds about right
Aesthetics should be last
And assuming compatibility, airflow should be first
Also why do you abbreviate “compatibility” with “compat”
cause with aesthetics even if its not something you want or like, you can paint it
and glass inhibits airflow
My honest case recommendation for you is the montech air 903 max.
It has
stellar compatibility
lots of airflow
is atx (which is the best for first time builders imo),
with the included fan hub, most, if not all fans can connect to it (with pwm and argb. Tho not sure if it can be motherboard controlled)
If you mean front glass, yes. Side glass, no
oh i was told side glas is bad
for emi a bit, but it doesnt matter
side fans arent going to do shit, especially when something like the montech air 903 can have 4 140mm fans and 3 120mm fans
for airflow, having or not having glass doesnt matter.
so glass is okay since front fans dont need to go that way anyway
so fans + glass is bad
but if you dont have any front fans then its okay
its not ideal. with something like the 4000X/5000X, its probably fine
but it is better to have mesh/perforation like the D series
How does this post have 3600 messages
dont even start
if youre not here to help, leave
im sick and tired of people popping in just to complain about the message count or some shit like that
seriously. leave now
lol
but you dont think a glass side panel would inhibit the side fans if it has any?
oh it would, but few cases have side fans and glass
goated ass show
cause tbh side fans are really just boosted front fans cause they intake and add more air to the already coming front intake fans
damn we agree on something
ik im wrong now, but ive never met you before
i guess i forgot
OH
you changed literally everything about your profile
is this woopy lmao
nope
medic
youve blocked me like 5 times
OHHH

yeah
reddit servers are fucking idiots
every reddit server ive been in ive gotten banned or left from stupidity
my friend got banned for recommending the wrong thing and we expained to him and he got perm banned
its one of those, where an admin just didnt like my personality + attitude
yeah
but like, you gotta make it at least fair for everyone
admins are power hungry in reddit servers
THEY ARE LOL
my server has 1000+ and i did it all with no admins or mods
cause like im scared of getting the wrong people
Dream, what do you think of the montech air 903 max
just a case
i like it tbh
what about the 903 base?
its a really good case and you wont be disappointed, aesthetically speaking
the only difference is 1 fewer fan and all regular pwm fans. it also doesnt have a fan controller
Jayztwocents recommends the max because of the extra fan, the rgb, and the fan controller
i agree
ive noticed a lot of cases have minimal alternatives which is nice to have
for people who want it
im scared of going RGB tho
why
im still worried about emi tbh i dont know how much it makes a big deal
you can just turn it off
like is RGB everything bad? or just slightly bad
OHH
lol you didnt know that??
depends on how you like it
so that means RGB is just extra money for the option
and it allows you to go minimal if you wanted
and it allows you to go super optimal if you wanted by avoiding emi
or in the case (hehe) of the montech air 903, you get rgb and a fan hub for usually $5-$10 more
its not a big deal
lmfao
this is fuckin funny
Literally how did you not know that
Anyway, dream, montech air 903 max = overall best case for you. Now I gtg now, gn y’all
It might be kinda big for a van, but you can stick it on the wall or something
lol ig it is p funny
so DRGB and ARGB are the same thing for sure i think
night
also, how much airflow and cooling matters or do i need??
i know more is always better but like for what?
cause if the gpus on the 4090s are overbuilt, that means they will always be cooled perfectly
and if the cpu has a good cpu cooler aio or air, then bad airflow wouldnt make or break a 7950x3d i dont think
It’s only cooled perfectly if there is air being supplied. That’s why case ventilation is so important and why the h510i is an ass case
No, the front panel is solid and the only intake is like a 1” slit on the back side panel
The perforation seen here
thats why it’s ass
A glass side panel literally means nothing for airflow
oh
The h510i elite has a glass front panel
I wouldn’t recommend it for the same reasons I wouldn’t recommend the regular
Also the fact that it’s more expensive than the air 903 max and is functionally worse in every way
Last thing I’ll say for real this time
Get the montech air 903 max. It’s the overall best case for you :D
but like as long as the 4090 stays below 80C itll be fine
so like is there any point for going 60C on the 4090
or 50C
or colder than that
The cooler the better
So filling the front of your case with fans is ideal
anything else
Hence the air 903 max
And with a 240 on the top for the cpu (and an air cooled gpu), case airflow would be golden
If you’re buying them:
wdym if im buying them
But with the air 903 max and an aio, you have all the fans you need so no reason to buy
👆
do you just mean how some cases come with fans
why is that
why do some cases not come with fans
That’s what the manufacturer decided to do it
okayy
Usually it’s because they expect the buyer to get their own fans based on their aesthetics
That’s what I think anyway
so same with like included / excluded psus
Most Include psus are ass, and you won’t find any modern cases with an included psu
so then, where are the best placed case fans and honestly wtf is this even
Wdym best placed fans
like im guessing front case fans are the best / strongest or something
so a case without front case fans is kind of going to need to do something since thats the spot to compete with cases that do have front case fans im guessing
Having positive pressure (more intake than exhaust) and an airflow pattern of front/side to back/top is the go to
That would probably be either ancient or have them on the side
Also wdym “wtf is this even”
ik about pressure,
the 1 in slit on the h500
H510
intake is positive right?
Idk it looks cool to some people
??
exhaust is negative?
Intake is intake. Where the air enters the case
No
Positive means there is more air being pushed into the case than being pulled out. It keeps dust from getting in through the cracks, like the rear panel for example
no i mean what is it, like is it a fan
yeah so positive is intake
negative is exhaust
Negative air pressure means more air is being pulled out than being pushed in, meaning air will enter the cracks
how would more intake = less dust
Because the air is being pushed out of the cracks
Keeping dust from entering unfiltered holes
what cracks
Don’t compare those. Intake doesn’t not mean “positive”
Panel gaps, the holes in the rear panel, etc
No it’s the intake for the fans that are behind the solid panel
so intake is positive. a negative pressure case that adds 1 intake fan is adding a little more positive and becoming slightly less negative
i dont get the point you are trying to make
Intake is intake, not positive
When referring to pressure, more intake is positive, less intake is negative
yeah but intake makes it positive
more intake
Ok, I think you understand now
I just don’t want you to get the wrong idea about something
Anyway, how close are you on choosing a case
closer
is there any reason to have a 50C gpu vs a 70C gpu
like what happens
what is the lower temps used for
Let's it boost better but a gou at 70 won't throttle either
If the price difference is huge I'd go for the hotter card
this would be pointless considering the size that usb C is to begin with
this would make said usb useless as he magnet would overpower the connection as you wouldn't be avle to use the same voltage at the same current ratings
technically usb C can already do that without changing size, considering DP-alt and HDMI-alt can be done through it if configured on a gpu/mobo
if it goes into a van it'll be fucked up before she knows it
nothing comsumer wise if we're talking gpu's
there's 12v ARGB and 5v RGB also if someone tries to do it via cheap led strips
front of the case being solid is the worst but if it's going in a van, i wouldn't use a case with a glass side
personally skip the controller and get a 3rd party one, they're cheap enough as it is dude
it does this at idle, not when under load, and gaming will push it to hotter temps, i.e 60-80c
nope, but a case without fans is cheaper as it allows you to put in the fans you want without you having to swap the shitty basic DC/molex fans out
nah, there's many modern ones that doesn't include a crappy DC/molex fan
no case is fully airtight
longevity of the gpu, lower chances of overheating and thermal throttling once it goes past thermal throttle temps due to the larger thermal gap for it to rise to said thermal throttle temps
if it's not getting fuel, it's either blocked fuel lines, dead pump or a blown fuse for the pump
2 easier fixes is pump/fuse
the more annoying and longer fix is the fuel line replacement
i'd sooner pay a little more for one without issues like this if i was you
what does he mean its not getting fuel
literally the engine is getting starved of fuel
and i pointed out the 3 common issues for it
oh so like. it gets some fuel but some of it. its not getting. so like a fuel bottleneck
not a bottleneck
it's basically getting either fumes or no fuel at all
which is
#1 blocked fuel line
#2 dead pump
#3 blown pump fuse
which like i said, pump/fuel line/fuse for pump
easiest check is the fuse first
then pump
then fuel line
so the fuel from the cap is just not going to the engine
and this is fixable?
it looks amazing tbh
fuck no, that's going into the tank
ohh gas / diesel doesnt go to the engine?
yes but it's either a 1 minute fix (fuse replacement) or a couple hours fix (replacing the whole fuel line
thats not so bad.
so a blown fuse would be the easy one like you said. a cheap $100 fix?
though a fuel line replacement, you might as well pump out the fuel tank first and give it a check over to make sure it's not gunked up to cause the fuel line blockage
a cheap $1 fix
fuel pump is more of a $60-200
okayyy
and fuel line is $30 or so for a length of pipe
so you seem to know a good amount about cars
would you say you know more about computers or more about cars?
this is the guy. i wonder if i should trust this
more about computers
thats fair
but cars are just as easy as a computer is for any guy
nope, male mindset vs female mindset
just gotta learn the parts
male mindset = object orientated, female mindset = people orientated
thought there are outliers for both
its giving con man tho too instead of man down on his luck and trapped in ohio
but if the fix is only about $200 thats honestly fine
https://www.amazon.com/JOREST-300Pcs-Assortment-Automotive-Standard/dp/B0BMGBBPTT fuses for inside a car, both mini-blade and normal blade fuses
its so cute
do these actually work tho or are they just for show
like do you just plug them in and it works?
yes
oh wow
all different values
if it's a blown fuse then you replace it in the fuse box
if the fuse blows again then there's a short happening
in which you get a multimeter an test power connections
and then i just push it in no problem?
pliers are a good way though most fuse boxes come with a fuse puller
different styles but something like this should be in a fuse box
so the blown fuse #3 problem could turn into a #4 shorting problem?
it can but that could be down to wear and tear with the cables protection
so if its a shorting problem how much does that cost
with any vehicle a multimeter is your best friend
what is a multimeter?
depends on where it's shorting, it could be an easy cut out and solder+ heatshrink job, or could be a cable replacement
so #4 shorting problem could be either 1 of 2 things
#4a easy cutout and solder and heatsink job
#4b cable replacement
how much is 4a and 4b?
does this mean it cant drive btw? cause i need to know if i can drive it to the place or if i have to tow it
$5 ish repair for 4a
with the cost of the apropiate gauge cable + connectors, probably $15-20
with a fuel issue it would need towing
what if the fuel issue isnt that bad. is there a chance it can drive a little bit
fueling issue = non-starter/non-runner
oh so it wont start either
nope, it needs fixing before driving
no fuel to engine = no starting
its gasoline too
which i like tbh
is the 280k sus
2012 seems like a good year to me
it's a shuttle bus, you will need to check the under carriage and sub chassis
what is a sub chassis.
ik chassis for pcs is a case
it's what the chassis of the vehicle is attached to
oh like the main frame?
yes
with like the wheel skeleton
im motivated to check but dont know anything
my dad never taught me anything about cars
i dont have a family anymore
so how do i get under there lol?
get on your knees and look under it?
there's enough clearance there that you could scooch under it
i can fit under there?? like my body?
yup
but what if the angle is bad and i cant see it or see what i need to see
yup, for inspecting under it, should be enough room
your phone has a light
go with a friend obviously
oh i um
rust, rot, see if it's had underseal put on it for protection,
i dont have any friends like that
i could get another stranger to go with me like magic tho
whats the difference between rust and rot
level of penetration
we covered this earlier
oh you just mean penetrating rust = rot
whats underseal?
wouldnt underseal be a good thing?
rot = when pentrationg rust is so bad, a sneeze would make it full appart to dust
protective paint used on the undercarriage and subframe to protect against rust
it is a good thing but some can put it on to hide any issues
sub frame = sub chassis right?
so like the sub in this case (get it chassis) means under or below.
yup
is the subframe the same as the undercarriage
or is the undercarriage a special place
nope, undercarriage is a general term to cover the underside of a vehicle
oh so like the very miniscule parts of the chassis and the tires are included in the term undercarriage along with the frame and exhauste pipe
where as the frame is an actual part
yup
undercarriage is the general area
okayy
so basically just look at tge undercarriage for rust
signs of rust and where it is
oh okay so if i see the sealant what do i do
expect that its rust?
little taps just to see if it's covering rust or not
yup and those will need to be sorted
sorted how do you mean
sanding/wire brush, rust converter, primer, mid coat then clear coat
which i explained way earlier
okay so what does mechanic special mean?
but only if its surface rust right?
how much are all of these things
requires a new engine completely
also means rewiring the harness for the new engine
couple dollars to 30+ dollars
okay np
is that what mechanic special means or is that the situation for this gmc
both essentially
cracked block = new engine block needed
and tbf this is something like a 3-4 day job for a hobbiest to do
for a professional mechanic, probably a 10-20 hour job roughly
as it involve a front end removal, disconnecting the engine form everything, hoisting the engine out, hoisting a new engine in, reconnecting it all up, bleed through/priming the fuel line to the engine, front end being put back on, and starting it back up and testing it out
and i'm just summarising the process there
well i dont want the 2nd one
im talking about the first one
cause they both say mechanic special
oh okay
this is the only one saying that so far and i've just told you the issues and summary of what will be needed to do
at first when the $1500 one said mechanic special i thought that as con phrasing
but its actually just full disclosure
so maybe that guy is just telling the truth
you'd be better off getting one that is in perfect working order for yourself
but maybe he's wrong and its not just the fuel issue
and learn from it before stepping in to one that has larger issues
im having issues finding any tbh
so is it better to have a super old year like 1980 but super low miles like 50k or 20k mileage?
or is it better to have a newer / newish year but like super high miles like 250k or 300k mileage?
that wasnt an option tho
im asking which is better
A) old + low mileage
OR
B) newish + high mileage
Express vans are 10/10 good vehicles iffff they have been taken care of
seems department of transport for america, not so much
ive heard good things
im really interested in econoline right now tho
im not getting a transit, sprinter, or a promaster because they are too expensive for what i want to do.
i could probably make it work, but that would start to get tight and my whole methodology is to basically spend nothing on this first van because the idea is that im going to basically save up for the big van right away
so like right after i get this van, im going to try to move out again
asap
back then im guessing the transit sprinter and promaster were more affordable and introductory but all the people who drive them know they can make a pretty penny off of them now and after covid and everything they are just inflated.
that $1500 E450 sold within 10 hours
im glad i jumped on it as soon as i saw it
im sad that he didnt choose me
wdym
Nvidia’s new super cards are just faster versions of the regular. It’s unclear exactly what the performance will be and what the price will be I think
From the leaks: 3-5% @ 4080, ~15% @ 4070, ~10% @ 4070 ti
There isn’t a 4090 super so they’re not helpful
what is the "lian li virus"
Probably Buying a lianli case because you see it online and you think it looks cool
oh i thought lian li was good tho
gotcha
40 series is kinda a wash for normal consumers
Same with rdna 3 tho
Just doesn’t seem as bad
rx 7000 series is a waste due to power draws
40 series tbh only valid for 4080+ for performance but only if you're upgrading from 20 series or older
The architecture of Radeon 7000 series amd gpus
Rusted through and a rusty frame id probably pass tbh
Not something you’d wanna live in and daily without some serious TLC
I got the 7900 xtx and wish I woulda just got a 3090 ti or 6950 xt tbh
so yeah he is up front about it, BUT it looks like surface rust only tbh
i could get under there and start scrubbing.
I’d have a look at it in person before I bought it tbh. If you have someone you know is a mechanic or has a decent understanding of vehicles I’d take them to look it over to see if you’re getting a good deal and it it’s worth spending money on
tbh no
i have no one
Ripppp
except my cat
Rip
i can show you tho
Sure that works. Ask them if they can send you more detailed pictures of the worst rusted areas
what part is that anyway
Frame damage
oh just the frame?
That’s the most important part lol
so thats not the exhaust pipe / muffler
Nooo lol
is the muffler the same thing as the exhaust pipe?
ohh okay so the muffler is something else apart of the exhaust pipe
or the exhaust pipe system
Yea it’s just part of it the exhaust system it helps muffle the sound of the engine to make it more tolerable
Without a muffler it would be so loud and ear piercing you wouldn’t wanna drive it
Looks like a hole butttt idk
Either way it’s very rough
I’d keep looking to see if you can find something a bit better
so rougher rust = worse
Yes
or more bubbly?
Does your state have state vehicle inspections?
Cause there’s no way that would pass
could i sand it down and do what rauko says and then for the holes can i weld it together?
Yesss but be warned that can be alotttt of work and a lot of money invested
And depending on how bad it is it may not be worth the time invested
Because sometimes you can sand past the bad parts only to discover worse damage under degraded frame
I believe you’re gonna end up spending a couple thousand to fix that If not more
