#Ryzen 5 5700x with 4080?

Hey!

I would like to upgrade/rebuild my pc. Right now I got a Ryzen 5700x with a NVIDIA 1080 and 16GB of ram. When playing bg3 I am getting around 40fps and an upgrade is long over due.

Just buying the 4080 with a new psu would have been my easy upgrade, but the cpu is too weak for the gpu. At least some bottleneck calculators are saying that. Getting a weaker gpu is not really what I want, vr gaming is pretty demanding as well.

Now, I could either live with the bottleneck and upgrade later on, if needed. Or I could spend the extra 800€ to get an i7 14k and rebuild everything else, except storage. What would you do? Is anyone running the 4080 with a 5700x?

Is the 7800xtx a valid option for vr gaming? I heard somewhere, that amd and vr are not so great together.

The idea of bottleneck itself is quite stupid, you will always have a bottleneck somewhere in your system. It’s about hitting them at the same time.

#

The 5700x is still a very potent CPU and even with it being the bottleneck you’re still gonna have very high FPS. Rather than a new CPU, i’d grab a new monitor instead cause that will be where your main “bottleneck” is.

That’s an interesting idea.

Grab a 1440p 240hz, or even a 4k 144. They’re getting rather affordable and would improve your experience a lot more than a CPU will.

the 14700k would be a bad buy, if you really want to up the gaming experience, that 4080 would be fine with the 5700x, though if you want to upgrade your cpu, an r7 7700/7700x, 6000 cl30-32 ddr5, and a b650 would be even more better for gaming if you don't go for an x3d cpu instead

also like jpeg said, ignore any and all bottleneck calculators, they give false info tbh

it would be a fairly big, though going to a 7600x would be the same level as getting a 5800x3d for gaming tbh

#

it also would give them another socket that will have the same level and life up support cycle as what am4 has had

#

which compared to lga 1700, is a much better option in the long run

#

at the end of the day, anyone buying 14th gen is going for a bad purchase tbh

I think i'll try to upgrade to the 4080, with the 5700x for now. If the performance seems lacking or the cpu bottleneck is stopping background processes like discord, ill upgrade to a new cpu. The only decision remaining is, whether to go for the 7900xtx or the 4080.

And if you like price to performance.
Price 4080 = 150% price xtx (or at least here it is), yet performance is on par in most cases.
