Hi, i built a new pc in march/april, and its worked fine eversince. However it has suddenly stop working properly, it powers up but dosnt boot, not even the MB splash/boot screen, let alone windows
The last time i used it was last friday, and ive been on holiday for a week, only just getting back today, so it hasnt been touched in that time

The pc recives power, and when turned on, the MB leds turn on and the case/cpu fans spin, like normal, but dosnt do anything else. I have an ssd so the boot sequence usually only take about a minute
I have tried repluging all the cables, but that hasnt worked

Anyone know how to fix this?

ok, ive given that a try, and after testing both sticks on all 4 slots, it finally worked after putting the second on into the slot closest to the cpu (which is B channel i think?)

#

should i leave it as is, or will i be able to put them back in their original places?

Try and get the system booted first, you can try adding the secondary stick into slot 3 afterwards and see if it still boots.

#

If it does, put the sticks back into their original places.

#

If the system starts acting up again, try clearing CMOS and try once again.

formal nova
#

ah ill give that a ty try thanks
it has booted with the one stick btw

hasty turret
#

It's honestly possible that the system is freaking out a bit after being powered off for so long, just needs some encouragement and it should be fine.

formal nova
#

phew, ive managed to get the sticks back in their original spots and the pc is working now
thanks a bunch👍

Hi, anyone mind helping me out with this again?
I have the exact same issue with my pc, but this time i havnt left it a week, i was using it just yesterday and it was fine

Ive tried swapping the ram stick positions and i have reset the cmos, but it still wont boot fully - just powers up and nothing more

hasty turret
#

Since if the system is refusing to post even after this, it means that something in your system is toast.

formal nova
#

yeah, i switched the rams sticks places, then tried the cmos reset, should try the ram again?

hasty turret
#

You should start with just a single stick of RAM installed

#

If the result is the same, clear CMOS and try again.

formal nova
#

i did do one stick, but ill try again anyway

hasty turret
#

try a different stick

formal nova
#

id have to use one out of my brothers pc, theyre the only other ddr4 i have access to right now, ill give it a try though

hasty turret
#

I meant a different stick from the set of RAM you have

formal nova
#

ah ok

formal nova
#

well, just tried putting both sticks in every slot (separately), then reseting the cmos, and then repeating the ram sticks again, and its still not doing anything different
guess somethings dead then

Other than that, the most likely culprit is either mobo or cpu failure. Reseating the CPU might help.

formal nova
#

ok, ill try that tomorrow, its a bit late now to do either of those
thanks for the help again btw

Had this exact same issue. Try unplugging your monitor and plugging it in when the green light turns on on the motherboard.

formal nova
#

ah, ill give that a try

Instead, i think im just gonna try a pc repair place in town
id rather have someone who know what their doing have a look at it, rather than me just buying new parts

cobalt tiger
#

Can you get into bios at all

formal nova
#

nope, no boot screen appears or anything
though, if i unplug the screen and connect it again (into the gpu hdmi port) the screen says "no signal"

cobalt tiger
#

Is the fans spinning?

formal nova
#

yeah

cobalt tiger
#

Thats good

#

That means it’s power on

#

Is there a light on ur gpu

formal nova
#

i dont think there is a light, but fan spins

cobalt tiger
#

Ight try this

#

Turn on your pc and spam the del key and power on your monitor/plug it in right after

formal nova
#

ok, i can give that a try

#

just tried that, nothing

cobalt tiger
#

Try plugging it into the motherboard slot

formal nova
#

the only lights in the pc are some orange backlights on the mobo (just decoration really) and the ethernet port status light

formal nova
cobalt tiger
#

The third vid

#

Do u have those lights on ur mobo

#

Yours might be older and not have them

formal nova
#

no, it donsnt have those status lights
its not an old board either (only made last year i think, it support 12th and 13th gen cpu), its just a very low level/budget board (not the cheapest though)

cobalt tiger
#

Do u have rgb ram

formal nova
#

no, no rgb except for keyboard and speaker, which do light up
but none for the ram

cobalt tiger
#

That means u have active power and the mobo works

formal nova
#

thats good, but i still dont know why its not working

#

i think ill still just try the pc repair place, i dont want to mess around with it too much really

#

thanks for try to help though, i do appreciate it👍

cobalt tiger
#

Honestly don’t know what it is

#

Cuz u should be able to boot

Any very wide variety of things could be fucked on a motherboard and prevent post, but not prevent an attempt to post

cobalt tiger
#

It seems like it posts but nothin shows up

thick grotto
#

It's not posting

#

It's just powering

cobalt tiger
#

O im dumb

thick grotto
#

pat you're good, gotta learn eventually

cobalt tiger
#

Yk

#

Now that i think about it

#

I think my ram was fucked up

formal nova

he thinks that because mine isnt working probably, that if i put his gpu in it, it might break
idk, fry it or whatever

formal nova
#

update for if anyone is wondering
i was finally able take it to a repair shop, and its working again
not quite sure what the problem was, the person who fixed it was in when i picked it up, but the invoice says "installation of new drivers and latest BIOS", so i guess it was a BIOS issue
anyway its fixed

#

thanks again to those who tried to help
