hey i reapplied thermal paste and when i power it on it started acting weird like loud noises and overall stuttering and in motherboard when starting pc red light appears but they do not flicker

dense barn
cinder arch
#

alr done

#

so stuttering gone

#

but still loud

#

@dense barn

dense barn
#

Yeah I'm guessing the paste application was just bad at first

#

Are you sure the CPU fan is connected to the right header?

#

If it's not, it would run at max rpm which would be loud.

cinder arch
#

cpu something something

dense barn
#

CPU is overheating

#

Turn off your system

#

Either the paste application is still bad or you're mounting the cooler incorrectly.

cinder arch
#

prob mounting

dense barn
#

Yeah, you're going to want to try again

cinder arch
#

i tried so long

#

some of the black thingies are broken

#

so mounting is only possible with 2 black thigies instead of 4

dense barn
#

Okay that's not enough

#

Can you give me your full system specs?

#

You're going to have to buy a replacement cooler with mounting hardware

cinder arch
dense barn
#

Stock intel cooler?

cinder arch
cinder arch
dense barn
dense barn
cinder arch
#

it like this one

#

see the black ones

#

on that cooler

dense barn
#

Yeah so it's a stock cooler

cinder arch
#

mhm

dense barn
#

No, you won't be able to do that

cinder arch
dense barn
#

Yeah no, if the tabs are broken you will have to replace the entire cooler unfortunately

cinder arch
#

when i bought it from someone the 2 black thingies were loose

#

and it worked fine

#

until i had to reapply thermal paste

dense barn
#

Yeah no, it wasn't fine even then

cinder arch
#

it was tho i did check it in-games

dense barn
#

That's not what I mean

#

the mounting hardware has tight tolerances

cinder arch
#

so i have to get a ENTIRELY NEW COOLER

dense barn
#

Yes

cinder arch
#

fuckk

dense barn
#

You won't be able to replace the tabs themselves

#

Since they're part of the mounting hardware of that cooler

#

Buy something like DeepCool AG400

#

It's pretty much the best bang 4 the buck cooler

#

comes with metal mounting hardware so not as easy to mess up either

cinder arch
#

deepcool ag400

#

this one?

dense barn
#

Not that one

cinder arch
#

link please?

dense barn
#

should look like this

cinder arch
#

alright

#

this one?

dense barn
#
cinder arch
#

yeah

dense barn
#

Yeah you should pick the basic AG400

cinder arch
#

this one

#

?

dense barn
#

That's the one yup

cinder arch
#

sigh alright then

#

i will get paid end of this month so no mo gamin until then

cinder arch
dense barn
#

Right now the reason why it's making so much noise is because the fan is trying it's best to cool the CPU

#

But since the cooler isn't making proper contact, it's not able to cool the CPU and it keeps overheating

cinder arch
#

fuckk

#

duct tape?

dense barn
#

That won't help

#

remember: tight tolerances

cinder arch
#

feck

dense barn
#

You want the mounting to be both solid and even, not something you can do with tape

cinder arch
#

so do i not turn on my pc

#

should i remove the cooler and throw it out

dense barn
#

Yeah, you shouldn't use the system for now

#

You might as well remove the cooler and throw it away

#

Since right now it's no longer serving it's purpose

cinder arch
#

keeping thermal paste from becoming dry or solid?

tranquil basin
#

Just remove it all now tbh

cinder arch
#

the fucked up thing is i waited so long to get thermal paste so i could reapply it and not this happends

dense barn
#

Well the coolers with plastic hardware fail like that eventually

cinder arch
#

fail?

tranquil basin
#

Break

dense barn
#

Plastic becomes brittle over time

cinder arch
#

so the deepcoal will fucking fail eventually!?!?!

tranquil basin
#

Huh

cinder arch
#

man wtf

dense barn
cinder arch
#

oh

#

okay

dense barn
#

Also what are you on about? Every piece of hardware fails eventually.

#

Plastic just faster than others.

cinder arch
#

yeah but really slow right?

tranquil basin
#

Just use it till it gets to that point it really should last you a long time

dense barn
#

Metal hardware lasts a long time.

cinder arch
#

sweet

#

i was thinking of upgrading my pc until it becomes a entirely new pc

#

like one by one

tranquil basin
#

Well that’s a whole nother thread tbh

cinder arch
#

maybe every 1 year i could upgrade something like motherboard or something

cinder arch
cinder arch
#

@dense barn

#

it is possible to repair them tho.....

#

oh shit

#

sorry i pinged u for tech support

#

didin`t see your bio

dense barn
#

You basically just pinged me to tell me that someone figured out a way to repair the pins, that's cool but it's not exactly a solution unless you have replacement pins.

cinder arch
#

can`t i just order them?

dense barn
#

I don't think so

#

You would most likely have to harvest them from another cooler

#

and I don't want to play chance with compatibility since like I've said before

#

the tolerances are very tight

#

If the mounting is off by even a little bit, it can drastically make your thermals worse

dense barn
#

You can try it if you want

cinder arch
#

what makes u think it isn`t possible

dense barn
#

I'm not saying it's not possible, I'm saying it's not an ideal way to approach this

#

if you break even one of those pins you're f'd

#

You need all 4 to be there and they have to be installed correctly

cinder arch
#

correctly?

dense barn
#

And like I said earlier, it's plastic hardware so eventually it will fail the same way as the cooler already has

cinder arch
#

the only thing that failed was the mount pins tbh

#

when i got it

#

there were only 2 pins working

dense barn
#

I think I've made my point quite clear on this

cinder arch
#

alright

dense barn
#

If you want to approach it that way, go ahead.

#

But don't say I haven't warned you.

tranquil basin
#

$10 for that? you can get another downdraft cooler with better mounting for that

dense barn
#

It's not about whether it makes sense or not, they just wanted to argue with me since I said they would have to replace the cooler.

#

If they want to waste 10 bucks on plastic tabs, let them.

tranquil basin
#

of course just a little extra input

dense barn
#

It's basically learning stuff the hard way

#

I wouldn't do that, because I know that I would be wasting 10 bucks if even one of those pins broke or warped during install.

#

But I can't stop people from doing stupid shit.

#

And I definitely can't win an argument with an idiot.

#

Enough said.

cinder arch
#

rude…

proper field
#

avoid coolers that use plastic pins, ive had 2 coolers from known brands just suddenly failing and literally falling off the cpu at one time because the plastic pins broke off
bequiet pure rock and hyper 212 both fell off cpu because pins snapped out of nowhere

get yourself a peerless assasin

warm kettle
# cinder arch rude…

Rude but the harsh truth, i also stand with what the others have said. Avoid plastic mounting hardware like its the plague

proper field
#

spend the extra 10-20 dollars and get a proper cooler

cinder arch
cinder arch
#

it isn’t plastic pins i think

#

idk it’s deepcoal or something
