Specs:
i5-12400F
32gb (4x8gb) G.Skill Ripjaws V at 3200mhz (2 sticks are 7 years old, 2 of them are brand new)
Asus Dual RTX 4070
Asus PRIME B660-PLUS D4 ATX
Asus ROG Strix 750W PSU
Windows 11 Home

#

i have already tried reinstalling gpu drivers and that didnt stop the random weird glitches

#

gpu is fine under stresstest, gaming etc, temps, voltages, powers all of that is normal

#

its just the random weird stuff that looks like the same that happens with dying graphics cards that only happen for split second makes me worried, the card is under warranty, its 1 month old

#

the glitching (flashing white) seen in 2nd video still happens if i turn on animated window minimizing and enlarging so that doesnt explain it

fluid violet
#

Bro watching Duutsoneita 💀

dawn zinc
#

i watched jackass first and now the finnish clowns

fluid violet
#

All jokes aside, did you do a DDU to nuke all off your display drivers?

dawn zinc
#

clean install with geforce experience

#

it also nukes old drivers

fluid violet
#

Uhh... Sorry man but it doesn't do it as reliably as DDU

dawn zinc
#

this same stuff has happened in the 2 previous driver versions too

fluid violet
#

Which would imply that the issue is definitely somewhere so deep that a basic reinstall via GeForce Experience wouldn't help

dawn zinc
#

the same stuff thats seen in the 2nd video doesnt happen to you?

#

assuming you have win 11

fluid violet
#

Yeah I have Win 11, don't have that

#

Also RX 7900 XTX so can't really compare driver revisions

#

I think that DDU from Guru3d is as good as place as any to start

#

Do that, then fresh download and install of driverz

#

driverz

#

gonna keep that typo in place

dawn zinc
#

ez

#

aight ill try that tomorrow but rn im too tired and dont trust myself with messing with ddu

fluid violet
#

Fair, let me know

dawn zinc
#

will do

#

lmao i changed scaling setting from monitor to gpu and now it only happens like 10% of the time

#

and only happens when minimizing window

#

@fluid violet KEKWSMILE

#

ill still do ddu but this kinda silly

fluid violet
#

Okay one more variable here

#

I don't use Opera

#

I use Firefox

#

So I don't know if that's just an Opera thing or a global issue

dawn zinc
#

the weird part is, that i just reinstalled gpu drivers thru nvidia, and during the reinstallation on the upper corner there was a "2nd screen"

#

the same size and place as what the white stuff doesnt cover

#

like right there

fluid violet
#

I don't know, I really just can't rule out driver issue

dawn zinc
#

yeah you are most likely right

fluid violet
#

I doubt it's Windows, but you can do the basic command prompt as admin and sfc /scannow

#

I just don't think it's worth whacking our brains around this further before we've ruled out drivers completely

dawn zinc
dawn zinc
#

@fluid violet i ran ddu, and after restarting and while downloading nvidia driver i noticed the graphical glitches were still there (glitches happened when driver wasnt even installed)

I also tried different browsers and same thing happens still

#

Ddu ran at default settings, selected nvidia and gpu and pressed clean and restart (the top option)

#

and ofc ran ddu in safe mode

#

I think im gonna do it again and install older driver instead, since the glitching didnt seem so bad back then but i wanna hear your opinion before i go further

#

the glitching also happened on other apps not just browser

dawn zinc
#

yes no errors

fluid violet
#

Also yes, you can try and see what happens if you go down to older drivers.

dawn zinc
#

yeah

fluid violet
#

But if the issue stays the same it means we're looking at a potential hardware issue.

dawn zinc
#

if that doesnt help im gonna shove my 4070 on my older windows 10 machine and see if it suddenly starts glitching out of nowhere

#

then i know for sure its the gpu

#

and im gonna yeet it back to the store i bought it from

fluid violet
#

Yeah that's a good way to test it

dawn zinc
#

not sure can my 450w kolink psu handle it but as long as i dont run stresstest should be fine

dawn zinc
#

klink kloink

fluid violet
#

followed by a boom

dawn zinc
#

explosion

fluid violet
#

Yeah

#

Every Kolink unit I've dealt with has blown up

dawn zinc
#

lol

fluid violet
#

I'm surprised the Kolink unit is functioning even before the graphics card is in there

#

I think it's such a huge risk that you ought to use the PSU from your own system just in case

#

Or just replace the 4070 with some other card to verify it was in fact caused by the graphics card

#

Not that I'm expecting you to just have a replacement graphics card lying around mind you

dawn zinc
#

ye i got my trusty old 1060 3gb that runs hotter than the sun

#

just installed august 8th drivers same issue

#

do i need to do some special shenanigans before replacing the 4070 with my old 1060?

fluid violet
fluid violet
dawn zinc
#

:D

fluid violet
#

Other than that nah, should be just plug and play

#

Uses the same drivers and shit

dawn zinc
#

doesnt matter if i just installed drivers for 4070?

fluid violet
#

Not really no

dawn zinc
#

and dont have geforce experience installed atm

fluid violet
#

It should be fine, they use the same drivers

#

like literally

dawn zinc
#

aight see you in a sec when i swap cards

fluid violet
#

right

dawn zinc
#

i shut down the pc and turned off psu, removed gpu power cable and a red light went on in the gpu for 20 seconds

#

on the pcb next to the powerplug

#

normal or did that mean hey you fucked something up heres a red led

fluid violet
#

It means that the power had not completely drained from your system.

dawn zinc
#

oh

fluid violet
#

Usually the graphics card gives a red led when it doesn't have the power connector plugged in.

dawn zinc
#

safe to continue ? or do i need to turn the psu back on and wait

fluid violet
#

But that's only when the system has power running through it.

fluid violet
#

So you might as well keep going,.

#

:/

dawn zinc
#

lol

#

pc booted with 1060 installed

fluid violet
#

time to see if the problem is still there

dawn zinc
#

yes it is

#

lmao

#

instantly

fluid violet
#

Yup, not the graphics card then

dawn zinc
#

words cannot describe my hatred towards windows 11

#

i literally NEVER had any issues with windows 10 during the 5 years i used win 10

#

oh well

fluid violet
#

Yeah I still think it's some sort of a driver issue :/

#

I don't want to make you reinstall Win11 again

#

especially after that hate speech lol

dawn zinc
#

im not reinstalling 11

#

im installing 10

#

fuck 11

#

serieously

tiny ember
#

FRICK windows 11

dawn zinc
#

in 1 month i had random bsod's and now graphical shenanigans i absolutely hate it

#

new pc, use win 11 for month and lose sanity

#

xD alright 4070 going back in

fluid violet
#

It would honestly be a super fun way to end this journey

#

conclusion: Install Windows 10

dawn zinc
#

but, i am happy that this is not a hardware issue, not that it would have mattered because the gpu still has 3 years warranty left

tiny ember
#

See what you could do is become an absolute chad and swap to linux EZ

dawn zinc
fluid violet
tiny ember
#

Is the truth and only the truth, "it just works"

#

granted the term "it just works" for linux also relies on the user not being completely braindead

dawn zinc
#

btw my psu makes a (kinda satisfying) metallic ding noise when pc shuts down

#

i assume thats the relay or whatever

fluid violet
#

Well here's another thing to consider...

#

If your system is acting super weird and is inconsistently broken

#

It's most likely the power supply

#

c:

#

I can't believe I'm saying this but... You could take that timebomb out of the other system and test it in yours xD

dawn zinc
#

Its a asus rog strix 750w gold, 1 month old

#

it doesnt have any issues at even full load

#

its not the kolink

#

relax

fluid violet
#

Thank god

#

But yeah, I guess there's not much else to this

#

Gonna install Win10 then?

dawn zinc
#

If i get irritated enough by the glitches or new issues arrive im insta downgrading to win 10

#

atm, the issues only happen randomly in web browsers, file explorer but never in games

fluid violet
#

At least the graphics card isn't dying.

dawn zinc
#

Sometimes in other apps but never under full load surprisingly

#

yep

#

but hey thanks for help! i really appreciate it.

#

people like you are a real gift

fluid violet
#

Aw shucks

dawn zinc
#

[SOLVED, WIN 11 JUST SUCKS] Gpu already dying or just windows 11 being funny?

dawn zinc
#

@fluid violet i fixed it, you never guess what was the issue, it was this. it was this all along. disabled it and i havent had any issues in the past 24 hours lmao

#

like holy fuck

#

sorry for the ping but this was so stupid i had to let you know

#

[FIXED, Disabled hw accelerated GPU scheduling] Gpu already dying or just windows 11 being funny?

fluid violet
#

I wonder if that's graphics card specific, I currently have an RX 7900 XTX but I used to have an RTX2070

#

At least based on what I read online it should be supported by GTX1000 series and later as well as RX5600 and later

dawn zinc
#

yeah its an nvidia thing

fluid violet
#

Turns out it's named a bit different depending on the system and the OS version :P

#

It's not an Nvidia exclusive function at all

dawn zinc
#

it doesnt even seem to improve perfomance in any way

#

kinda useless feature

fluid violet
#

Well it supposedly improves stuff like editing and systems that don't have a great CPU benefit from it, but even their recommendation is to only use it if it doesn't cause any issues with the system lol

dawn zinc
#

and yet it was enabled by default

#

as stupid as the fast boot being enabled by default

fluid violet
#

I don't know about that, apparently for me it's enabled at all times because of Auto HDR
