what are you trying to figure out with this conversation???
so why do you personally not like having a pics folder inside your everything drive?
does saving a new pic or download a new song count as a write?
it does
my anime vs other films
My other 800GB of media is on my nas lol
well then pics and music arent really good for everything drive then
cause i save a lot of pics
and a lot of music
A tlc ssd will last ages
But you can add your own pics/music drive
It’s your choice
yeah but a qlc ssd will be not good for everything drive then
it doesn't really matter tbh
Just get a couple 4tb tlc ssds for files and games, and you’ll be set
You can also get sata ssds for files if you want. Storage is all up to you for the number of drives
i have 2 vids i want to send purely as replies to certain convo's but.... i'd be reported for meme/shitposting
for mass storage this would be ideal, be much easier for pics/music storage
Crucial mx500 4tb 👌
and pics take up way less space so you'd only need a tiny drive for it
that's tbh, actually a really ideal games sata ssd
2tb version of said drive
It’s just really great sata ssd
Lol nice
You could probably just use your boot drive right?
can't deny how good it is, and tbf, the only drive i have that has dram cache on it
i could but there's a few pics there i don't ever want to lose
if i ever lost them, lets just say it'll be messy
Fair enough
so the boot drive has the highest chance of basically getting corrupted
i have done that essentially though have a half finished nas that will be for back ups
any drive does, just those that hardly know much, end up corrupting that the most
It’s written the most because of windows
prime attack vector of any pc is the OS
yeah all good reasons to not have your pictures on the boot drive
but yeah music and pics dont take up a lot of space but they count as a write tho
whats the endurance on tlc vs qlc?
what unit does endurance use today
i tried looking it up
but i couldnt find it
all good reasons to not have anything other than the os, drivers and main launchers on the boot drive**
how much space do drivers take up
TBW, aka terrabyte writes
by their name sakes
so it says 100 - 800 tbw for endurance
that means if i save 100tb of pictures to the qlc drive and it's 8tb it will die
aka, a 3.5 inch drive = 3.5inch wide
read only
okay
and that's after it reaches 100-800TB written to the drive
depending on drive capacity
so i can still take them off the drive since transfer reads off the drive and writes to another. that's good at least
so honestly then, qlc is still good for pictures, music, videos and everything. it just might fill up fast and then you might need to transfer to a new drive or multiple drives one day
still though, choose your boot drive first so everyone knows what it'll be
if you transfer 8tb of data over to a new drive that should really only be 8 / 100 writes. if that
and qlc should be more than 100tbw then
is watching movies just reading
is there any benefit to having a drive for just one game?
also what did you multipartition your hdd for?
all those in grey
yeah
so a 2tb drive split as 1tb for video's, 640gb for downloads, 240gb for games downloads/mods
why do you keep your mods separate from your games drive
well a mod is usually in a zipped archive and needs to be unzipped before adding to the game
and tbh, i have some of them kept more as a backup of what's being used
one folder in that is full of scripts for a browser based game to give it extra functionality
oh so you keep the zipped files just in case
yup
couldnt you keep the zipped files in the games drive and unzip to the same drive tho
though once i've fully built my nas completely, then i can just offload most of what i have and just remotely access some of it for use
not really, it if a game got corrupted and i had to wipe the drive, i'd lose all the mods
oh okay so the game drive could also get corrupted because of 1 game?
it could get corrupted due to a mod
so that's why a game drive is good too, cause if 1 game corrupted the whole drive then you could lose all your pics and music on an everything drive
and you're one of the people who'd benefit from multiple drives
so i think the dram technically uses ddr4
lpddr3/lpddr4
What’s the verdict for storage?
I don’t think they have even started which model deciding yet
Aight that’s bullshit
This ^
That’s a question to ask google
I’m sure creeper boy knows
Lmao I wish
Select that message, right click on it, and click “search with google”
Where did you find this?
https://www.servethehome.com/new-dual-port-nvme-ssds-intel-dc-d3700-dc-d3600/
Looks like a kind of ssd that can be accessed by two systems, like some sas only drives for high availability
this was the top result
Why the hell are you still looking at enterprise drives
Did we not make this clear:
You. Do. Not. Need. Enterprise.
it will be more expensive for no benefit
Just troll till the ball actually rolls
Then only OP will be dissatisfied, everyone gangsta
Hell nah, if you’re not helping, leave or I’ll report you
dr suess frfr
troll till it rolls
lmao
love how troll appears in the phrase “it rolls”
🤯
anagram for “is troll”
Bruh
bro is smart goddamn
@trail kayak follow this advice
for the 15th time or whatever
Do not troll, or I’ll report you
i got timed out for "shitposting"
all i did was get pissed
it just turns out my oxygen supply is free
And I need to breathe or 100% oxygen concentration will become poisonous :p
Are you shitposting?
Wth is that then
alr
How highly does she think of the 990 pro for a boot drive?
or is it on death row bc SAS drives are the new GOAT
Idk, only need gen 3, especially for a boot drive
seems to me her plan is to build a PC, NAS, server simultaneously
Not nas
Mentioned it bc of all the drives she’s hating on, practically enough to build every person a NAS here
What drives is she hating on
Well, I meant generally disregarding; last I saw her fawning over was the Crucial T700; skipped good stuff like the SK Hynix Platinum, WD Black SN850X…
Sounds like someone who’d look to the internet for “all the answers”
Then expect a summary
nah, just looks here
(Which literally is the case)
Here*
She said gen 5 isn’t worth it yet
yep
I wonder why she is ignoring the 990 pro and sn850x 🤔
Wants to go against the grain I suppose
Selective hearing
500GB boot, 4TB game drive, 2TB Video/Photo
〔mp33 pro〕boot,〔mp34〕game,〔mp34〕video
Make an influencer video on YT titled “money can promise everything (and it delivered for me). but most just get one thing”
my whole storage is a 500gb nvme and a 120gb sata ssd
pulled the sata from an old prebuilt
its sad
Then rant about how everything is fine for her running RAID 10 on Gen 5 drives and tell us we gave her shit in comparison
but it works
i hope she doesnt do raid
pretty sure she knows not to though
im not lol
here's your drive selection :)
500GB boot, 4TB game drive, 2TB Video/Photo
(mp33 pro) boot, (mp34) game, (mp34) video
Add any sata you want
link for mp33?
here are all of those drives
https://www.newegg.com/team-group-512gb-mp33-pro/p/20-331-562?Item=20-331-562&cm_sp=product-_-from-price-options
it has the mp33 pro, and mp34
If you want gen 4:
Crucial p5 plus boot | sn850x 4TB and 2TB for game and video respectively
so does anyone know what 3 2x2?
Search the world's information, including webpages, images, videos and more. Google has many special features to help you find exactly what you're looking for.
i cant find anything tbh
@trail kayak
half the pcie lanes i think if i remember
2 is half of 4 🤯
You read that website 2 lol, it’s not that simple
It splits the gen 3x4 into 2x gen 3x2 for access by 2 servers/computers. Used for high availability, and usually found in sas only
so i was kinda right
half right
4=2+2 🤯
Lol
i learned moer about csgo skins than pc stuff ngl
still cant remember anything about either
thats just a random article that says nothing about 2x2
That’s just wrong
Fucking read it, it says plenty, and I summarized it twice
It means 2 lanes are connected to 1 server, and 2 lanes are connected to another, letting the drive be accessed by both simultaneously
Not really
Not good enough especially for dream
~~ on each side
is this what 3 2x2 is?
Discord message formatting is something I’m ok with
2 on each side lmao
Yes, and that’s what the website says
This says dual port nvme, which is what that article is about. And you’re wrong if you say it’s not
Read the fucking article then
There are 2 gen 3x2 ports on the ssd. Each is connected to a separate server/computer, allowing drive access from both
ill just take your word for it
since you read the article
so pcie gen 3 2x2 is just 2x 3x2s
Anyway, where did you find that
It really is that simple
All you should care about is the 3D nand ssd one
Also, where did you get that
its a ssd
basically
well its optane but it operates like an ssd
okayy
but it has a really really long lifetime
but like ram speed but not really ram speed
can sustain a lot of reads and rights
no
it's not fast
it's thing is that it lasts a long time
p sure optane is the fastest ssd
looks like that's compared to other slow ssds and hard drives
the fastest hard drive still isnt as fast as a halfway decent ssd
here is the 4tb t700
thee hdd is faster than ssds. but not m.2 ssds because of the sata bottleneck
randoms
which means theoretically, 2 - 4 times the speed of the fastest regular ssds
so like the t700 is probably the best regular ssd
in random iops sure
but in randoms it's only 135 MB/s
at q1
q1 shows its minimum speed which is indicative of everyday use
gonna choose a boot drive from these
any opinions on the solidigm p44?
$55 for pretty fast 1 tb boot drive tbh
the 441 MB/s is so tempting but definitely not worth $2000
thats the max but its parabolic
most ssds have about 100 MB/s q1
including the t700 and the 990 pro
this is ultimately the reason why they preform the same
it's not cause gen 5 is ass
it's most cause the t700 is designed in a way like every other ssd where it focuses and prioritizes sequential speeds over randoms
and no one wants to use 3d xpoint technology probably because intel has a patent on it and doesnt want to pay intel for it
also the p4800x is probably out of the question
the performance is worse and its more expensive
for $800 you can get a good p5800x with 400gb which is plenty for a boot drive
and it has 3 times the speed of a t700
? this one
you actually will notice a difference between 100 MB/s and 300 MB/s what you wont notice is a difference in sequential speeds between idk like 3000 and 4000
the random speed is what matters most
which cap @drifting pebble
the 905p is basically the same cap as the p5800x and it is $100 cheaper for 100 less MB/s
and then the t700 is almost just as expensive but it is $200 cheaper normally, but it is another 100 MB/s slower
but right now the t700 is actually only $375
instead of $500
which one the mp33 or the mp33 pro??
nevermind there is a cheaper 905p for $390 that is the same speed but a higher cap at 1 tb
so im crossing off the 905p 380gb
probably will take the 8tb hdd off cause it doesnt make sense for a boot drive with the sata bottleneck
so 58gb is actually too small for a boot drive, so i will probably have to take off that p1600x but i think i could make a 118gb boot drive work
the 900p is one of the faster regular speed ssds for only $150
175 MB/s
280gb
166 MB/s
probably the fastest cheapest 4x4
sabrent rocket 4 is probably better than this tho
it's $20 cheaper but you lose 1 tb
but its for a boot drive
kind of thinking about this for a games drive
or this one
cause they are relatively fast and have high capacity
but the 2tb one is $78 and the only difference it has from the t700 is -2tb
if you guys have better options i will add them now
honestly tho
for a boot drive i think i really wanna do this still
it has a p bad q20 speed tho
i wonder if q20 matters more really.
okay yada yada everything i already keep trying to say
okay good. so what im hearing is q20 doesnt matter for a boot drive lmao
even if it is random
let alone q32
this means i probably shouldnt spend 10 times the amount for this drive instead
Intel® Optane™ SSD DC P5800X Series (400GB, 2.5in PCIe x4, 3D XPoint™) quick reference with specifications, features, and technologies.
this one has a better q1 speed but its only about 60 MB/s faster
this one is also faster and it is 50% cheaper but you would have to go 32 bit windows or some shit lol
maybe good for linux or something.
i will save a linux drive for a future purchase
or a video editing drive for a future purchase
maybe a retro drive for a future purchase too
i dont see a reason to go any other ssd for a boot drive than one of these 3
or maybe this one

O don't see the sn850x which is a definite yes?
And I mean there's no point to look at boot drives any drive faster than 150mbps that isn't gunked up will make windows boot as fast as possible just look at my sata 2.0 drive with a 200mbps read and 150 write windows boots in literally 2 seconds
What takes the longest is the post and bios check for me
The 4tb inne isn't worth it
Unless you want it for mass storage ofc but not as a boot drive
I wouldn't go getting a boot drive any bigger than 1tb since if you're a smart person you'll store everything except program files on your secondary drive
Also I've just noticed
Why do you want a suprim liquid x?
A hybryd card that's just gonna take up fan space
yeah but the 2tb and 1tb are slower in the case of the sn850x
Still it's like 100 mbps
Also suprim liquid x????????
i will add the 1tb version to the boot drive options
but looking at this now already the sn850x looks like one of the worst boot drives on the list and is vastly inferior to the p1600x. it is the same cost but it is 50% the speed.
i could just go the sn570
if i wanted a budget route
it's $20
Yeah but it also have like 500gb more of storage
it's a boot drive. having more storage just makes it safer
if i can get the os on 118gb then im golden
972gb*
like realistically, how much space does launchers + drivers need? i saw examples but they are all 300 - 2000gb each
and the only one that was 2000gb was fucking steam
epic games is like 1300gb
Just fill your slots with these
https://www.newegg.com/western-digital-1tb-sn770/p/N82E16820250217
And these
https://www.newegg.com/western-digital-1tb-blue-sa510/p/N82E16820250229
You're reinventing the wheel on the easiest part to pick in a build
im not gonna have 54 launchers
the sn770 has 107 MB/s
the sa510 has 21 MB/s
Slow as fuck
Slower than my 10 euro sata 2 ssd kek
im crossing the sn850x because it is outclassed by the cheaper sabrent rocket 4
any other recommendations
Nope
ik the p44 is a big one
She will never need anything faster than this for her van life plans
Booting VLC .2 seconds faster so she can watch seasonal pirated anime #33
okay i added the p44 to the list
i would say the predator outclasses the p44 so im take the p44 off
im taking the nv2 off because the sabrent rocket 4 is just cheaper the nv2 is the same as the sabrent but it has 1 tb extra
i added the spatium but its too expensive for a boot drive
because it's q1 speed is ass
the predator is onle $45 and it is faster
theres also this one but its hard to find and the price i have found is like $300 so def not worth
skip the spatium
i fully agree
this is just a sk hynix p41 under another name
ill find it
you agree but for a different reason
i already linked this for you to use for checking against for ssd's

that's the one
both are the same drive tbh
skhynix makes solidigm ssd's
solidigm = sk hynix's take over of intels ssd branch
i added the p41 to the list
both of those that you linked are tlc nand ssd's
the solidigm p41 = qlc nand
the p44 is tlc tho
i just said that no?
i think the p41 is in the same boat as the spatium in terms of a boot drive. but the p41 is better than spatium
hynix that is
list what exact spatium model it is
as there are some tlc and some qlc models under different numbers
m570 2tb 5x4
that's a tlc gen 5 drive, do not bother with
as it needs active cooling

ill repost here
remember no gen 5 drives needed
right
all those optanes are no good as boot drives at all
i dont agree and i dont see how
braindead moment by the OP
the difference here is that the sa510 = sata and sn770 = gen4 nvme
if i was held at gun point and forced to choose right now. im absolutely going the p1600x 118gb
yeah ik
then you'd be making a piss poor choice
not really
yes really
nope
you already was told what would make a good boot drive
none of those you listed would do any good nor would be any faster
nope, you are, absolutely
yup
yes, very much so
you will not be beating any gen 3 drive
Damn she got muted
why would you even be considering a boot drive under 500gb
no one needs 500gb
show me your boot drive right now
Having 256 gig i can just say its not enough lol
all SSDs, C is m.2
link
okay but what all do you have thats making it fill up
https://www.techpowerup.com/review/lexar-nm790-4-tb/9.html from a review of this drive
how much is your os taking up. both of you
regular apps, all the ones that don't allow you to change the install location (which is a surprising amount of them)
windows, drivers, main game launchers, updates relating to all of the above
did those come from microsoft store?
Yeah 500/512GB is like the minimum I would have for a boot drive (even then I mostly stick with 1TB since for my builds even 500/512GB is a bit too close for comfort)
and a few things that benefit from having the higher-than-sata drive speeds
no, you just need to listen to the experienced computer nerds
cause all ik is that windows is 64gb and google says 64gb - 120 gb boot drive is perfectly fine
theoretical requirements mean nothing in real world use
when cleaning up after update and your temp folder
how much is your os taking up
can you find that
so windows only takes up like 20gb on yours
just those 4 folders alone = 84-90gb
currently, it can take up so much more if you don't regularly clean out your temp folder + windows update cleanups
or if you're not perfectly careful about install locations, or install a lot of things that don't allow you to change install locations
(or commonly, apps that are installed per-user to appdata in your user folder, or use apps that store a lot of data in the appdata folder)
unless you're on some very low budget, why even buy such a small drive and have to worry about it
any speed "advantage" you may see from getting a smaller drive is not going to be noticed
any speed advantage you'd see going from a gen 3 drive to a gen 4/5 drive will never be noticed either
that depends more on what you do though, a gen 4 drive can be significantly faster than a gen 3 drive if you do anything where that might matter
this is without any extras added in so as a cleanly installed windows 11
sure, but we're talking boot drive or games drives, where it is totally not noticable
also the review i linked, there's many more like it, for other drives, which show what their performance is like especially for games, video editing, OS load ups, which is better than going by a passmark score let alone "benchmarks" shown on pcpp
these are gen 3 drives
gen doesnt matter here
its also not a scored benchmark
what you put as a list for boot drives are all gen 4 with a couple gen 5's, the image i linked is a mix of gen 3,4 and 5
because it's a fucking proper review and testing of the drive
a passmark benchmark is only testing to show it's total speed for both randomws and sequentials
no its the testing for qd1 rnd
for a nm790 specifically
you never checked proper reviews of drives, but instead went based off a passmark score thinking fastest = best at the time
its not a passmark score lmao
this is YOU basing a decision based on passmark scoring, which tbh in itself is useless
which is how they're rating/scoring it by
no it's literally just the speed in descending order lol
they have a disk score tho
but the disk score isnt really representative since its mostly inflated by the sequentials
https://www.techpowerup.com/review/?category=SSD <- actual reviews
shows scoring based on realworld uses
honestly techpowerup isnt really showing me anything
it is, it's showing what the drive is like under each use case, and with different programs
many of which you will be using for different things
i mean i see the p44 on there lol
davinci resolve = free video editing software. premier pro = adobe pay to use software
both for video editing
29gb file isn't a small file in regards to video editing
that's roughly a good 8 hours of video recording to be editing
never even looked into this. this isnt how i found optane. i found optane because it had the best random speeds.
level1tech is about servers and nas's, not a pc you'd use for gaming/video editing on
does not make it a good OS/BOOT drive
and as for the other 2, look at the dates
makes it only viable as a CACHE drive
still only viable as a CACHE drive
never as OS/BOOT
literally all about ssd specs
it is literally a drive you'd just use as a cache drive for a server, nothing more nothing less
yes it does
unless i can be given a good enough reason. im going optane
quite literally stated there
so you'll take the dumbest route because you'd rather take bad advice
don't bitch if you have issue
especially as those will be self inflicted issues
and it's really a dumb take to tell someone who's built, rebuilt and refurbed multiple systems they're wrong on something they do know what they're telling you about
userbenchmark
instantly invalid
fr
Do you know why it has faster randoms? Because it’s meant to be used like “slower” ram for caching (the optane persistent memory).
Bro why is the 980 pro not I. Consideration
Reliable lord of pekple own it
990 is still too new and barely faster a
And 980 is readily available
And based on my experience with it it’s awesome
i already know it operates like slower ram
but its also the closest thing we have to a real slc drive.
sure ill add the 990 pro and the 980 pro
yeah so i havent heard anything that sounds like a problem
other than, you dont want me to
the p1600x has poor q20 which doesnt matter for boot drive.
and it also has a low capacity which is a concern
why does that matter?
but it is just as affordable as the sabrent rocket 4, the sn850x, p44, nv2, gm7
if i were to currently NOT go optane, it would be to make the 2 or 3 people in this thread happy, in spite of all my research and what everything else is telling me.
the only thing this thread is tell me, is that its unconventional and that theyve never heard of it
which is hilarious because if you do the research you realize regular consumers were buying these things up just to get their hands on them
even as used.
even for much more expensive
if the p1600x capacity falls into issue i will just consider the 905p 960gb
you have given me no reason to otherwise not go optane besides its a little weird when really its not weird at all lmao
its not cost effective
it's literally not about the capacity. anyone who has come to this conclusion feels the same. it's understandable when the 2tb is $2000
that's just out of reach for some people
realistically, 4 times system snappiness is just not worth it for me
but 2 times system snappiness is worth $75
to me at least
this is a boot drive, you arent going to be putting everything on there. it doesnt need to be cost effective.
because we arent optimizing for capacity.
it's the only drive where this could be considered
Dream would rather pay $75 for 0.1 seconds faster loading times and less than 100gb than get 2tb for the same price
it's not just the startup time but if i were to guess, it would be 0.4 seconds faster
maybe more
boot time literally doesnt matter
It’s going to be less than like 20 seconds anway
if you think i should go more points into startup time, i could go the p5800x 400gb for $790. and probably get about +0.5 seconds off. (on top of the 0.4s)
why the fuck do you care about boot time
please listen when i talk, i just said its not about startup time.
this would impact everything
The fact your considering getting a 400gb drive for $790
$790!?!?!?!
We are lol
^
WTF
Exactly
Dream please get an MP44L or SN770 and not waste your money on enterprise grade ssds

just capacity difference

here's a repost
i have added the 990 pro and 980 pro
they were quickly outclassed by the nv2
and the nv2 is outclassed by the sabrent rocket 4
my non optane choice is the sabrent rocket 4
those optane drives are so slow. really not worth it for a boot drive
you need to be way more specific with what you mean by slow
oh wow, so you are actually not knowledgeable on the subject
that's okay
i already knew i had to do this part on my own
also the fact that its $2 per GB
these are random 4kqd1 iop speeds
instead of like $0.07
because the boot drive can be small, and optane has top market speeds.
ive add the other drives for other people who dont know about this stuff
what are the random speeds of your top optane ssd choice
441 MB/s that is the fastest in the world today.
and it still is despite it being gen 3 and being old.
thats not how its measured
i used google like you told me lmao
gen 3 is not that old, and still more than enough for a gaming pc
you need to stop cherry picking parts of what im saying as if its going to branch off somewhere because it wont
im not saying gen 3 is old. people are saying optane is old lol.
but i dont want to argue. if you want optane, you do you. i want to get through storage
yeah cause it's overpriced and slow
😭
it would seem you are also not knowledgeable
its not overpriced, and its not slow
i will take your responses as a grain of salt for now
Exactly
Dude
sn850x 1tb 4x4 qd1 102 MB/s $75 ❌
Creeper said the same thing
okay yeah it's not overpriced
but not worth it
the sabrent is cheaper and faster
Sabrent Rocket 4 1tb 4x4 qd1 164 MB/s $60
its average speed

the t700 is like 135 MB/s
ok dream, if you want optane, you do you. i dont want to argue anymore. i want to get through storage
there was no argument, you gave me nothing besides that you were weirded out lol
if there is something i am missing, i would love to hear it.
even from rauko
but rauko had nothing to say
"theres no argument"?
tell me why i should go the sabrent rocket 4 over the p1600x
its overpriced like hell, randoms do not matter as much as you are saying, and a pcie gen 4.0 is more than enough for any ssd
and is there any fiber in your being that could google this? and learn about queue depth 1 for boot drives? it takes like no time
this is true. randoms at qd32 or qd20 dont matter. but random iops especially the reads matter the absolute most at qd1
its not worth overpaying for a slow small ssd
lmao
because computer users have survived just fine without optane
i dont need 2tb of storage for a boot drive creeper
ok?
what point are you trying to make
all you are saying here is that "regular ssds work just fine"
all im saying is "optane works just fine"
but theyre way overpriced
$790
oh nvm mb
for a boot drive. price per gb doesnt matter.
because the boot drive only needs max 512gb
and anyway, if you want optane, buy optane. its not my pc, so pick what you want.
its still good to spend a reasonable amount of money
this is reasonable
i have nothing else to say besides what ive already said. so if you want optane, idfc
im not spending $4000 or $2000
p5800x 1.6tb 4x4 qd1 326 MB/s $3741 ❌
p5800x 800gb 4x4 qd1 441 MB/s $2341 ❌
youre only point was that it is too much money
ok. you do you
thank you creeper
From a price to performance and capacity stand point it is a stupid buy I think is what he means
Like you’re just burning money on a junk drive

And not getting any real benefits from it
okay dxtchin, you are up next
what exactly are you saying
junk how
i want to get to know you
I don’t want to get to know you
I’m just telling you from a price capacity and performance standpoint. It’s stupid to buy Intel optane
Comparatively to modern day gen 4 drives that offer very good performance and capacity for little to no money
p1600x 118gb 3x4 qd1 222 MB/s $76
p1600x 58gb 3x4 qd1 232 MB/s $34
905p 960gb 3x4 qd1 202 MB/s $392
tell me what is wrong with these prices?
Literally what I just said
$392 for less than 1TB of storage
no no say specifically
🤦🏼♂️
that's basically 1tb
so?
All of those drives are a massive waste of money for the gain in performance you get
still way overpriced
$390 is expensive for 1tb if it was for storage
It’s diminishing performance at best
this is a boot drive.
It’s diminishing performance at best
and?
diminishing performance but not diminishing returns lmao
i boot drive with 128gb - 512gb is perfectly fine
Yes diminishing returns lol
so it doesnt matter if the price / GB is 0.007 or whatever, and you sort by that on pcpp lmao
The difference between a 1000mb/s and 3000mb/s read while booting your pc is not a viable gain in performance to spend a lot more money
actually no, the performance IS parabolic and 95% of ssds have 100 MB/s speeds
Or even transferring files for that matter
Fairly certain my ssd regularly reads and writes at well over 1500 mb/s so no
which is why you have it ingrained in your skull that all drives operate the same for boot and launchers and that there is no perceived snappiness
however this isnt the case obviously
for the top 5% of drives.
i dont wanna argue about this anymore. Dream, if you want optane, idc anymore
If you’re so stuck in optane then just buy it and move on
lets just move on
i already know. youre done
Stop asking peoples opinions if you’re just gonna tell them optane is better
im not asking, you wanna give.
fym by youre done 😭
Are we still on storage
girl think she gustavo fring
sigh
he said he's done. his turn is done. he gave me everything he could.
You just asked me lol

advice: get rid of the ones you cross off instead of putting an x
i decided i want people to be able to see them
fair enough
fills up a lot of the chat
I think you’re over estimating the amount of times you’re actually gonna be doing random read and writes with the ssd in everyday life.
lmao do you not understand that you will be doing random reads almost constantly
And I’m assuming those speeds are based of completely full drives with depleted cache?
it's literally already gone lol
Well I have a TeamGroup mp44L and a crucial p3 plus 2 drastically different drives speed wise. And literally can’t tell a difference when using either for gaming or any other workload in every day life
So. I mean you can waste time on server drives that no one uses or buy stuff that will be a viable option
The MP44L is the boot drive
no point if youre just gonna go with an optane..
It’s cheap asf for 2tb and makes a badass game drive
fr
Actually pretty overkill for a game drive tbh
meh
guys just stop arguing. she obviously only wants optane, so let her do that
I use the crucial for games which is incredibly overkill
what is the capacity for the p3 plus
For example I have a Samsung 850 Evo sata sad and the crucial p3 plus. I had starfield on both drives cause I corrupted the first install somehow. It loads at the same speed on both games between cut scenes and launching the game
i dont only want optane
500, 1TB, 2TB, 4TB (i think)
Urm 2tb I think idk. It’s not that great of a drive I just got it on sale I think it’s QLC
if a better example comes into play then sure
literally any gen 4 drive
The 990 pro is a better drive lol.
Even in random reads and writes the top drive vs a 990 pro is so close in performance the difference is negligible
In the comparisons you sent that is
the p3 plus has qd1 of 81 MB/s for $29 right now.
i can't find the mp44l
everything has been said for why optane is bad. now its up to you, dream, to choose what you want
the 990 pro is not the top drive lmao
tell me, how much does qd1 matter, and send a site documenting it
nothing has been said so far besides the mute point about it being ToO eXpEnSiVe
I never said it was 🤦🏼♂️
I’m just not gonna help you. Nvm
Why ask for advice and never except it or even consider it
Ignorance
Fr
Spending $790 fucking dollars on a boot drive is stupid
It will be less then a second of boot time difference
Over a reasonable drive
and boot time doesnt matter, espeically if dream doesnt turn off her pcs often
like she said her laptop has been on for 3 months
Fr
I full power off my pc every night and still don’t care about it
what advice
i was told to use google lmao
advice to fuck optane
Cus most the time I’ll press the power button and walk away to grab a water bottle and when I’m back it’s booted
All advice
Read it that just proves our point
is that SAS? you wouldnt even be able to use it with out spending more money on an adapter
i read it and it only proved mine lmao
How
how did it not
It flat out says not to use as a boot drive
sketchy af
Fr
wait is that your website?
Wait yeah it’s her own website
all optane must use a u.2 adapter
you plug in the m.2 adapter into the m.2 slot. then you plug in a mini sas into the m.2 adapter. then the mini sas plugs into the 2.5 optane nvme ssd (not nand)
gen3 or gen4
$392 would get you a much better 8tb ssd, $34 would get you a much better 1tb ssd, $76 would get you a much better 2tb ssd
name any
Many
im ready
You won’t listen Anw
no it's not, samsung has a slc drive that's no longer for sale, they even have a mlc ssd that is no longer for sale
slc and mlc arent even worth it
no it wasn't regular consumers, it was higher end enthusiasts, regular consumers wouldn't know the difference between a hdd and a ssd at all
nope it's not, especially when a 2tb nvme drive can be obtained for $50-76 on the low end and be well spec'd
Exactly
10-15 seconds total on average, 20 at most
Dont tell anyone I told you this but… its actually 20,000
She thinking it is lol
and ill say this again, boot time doesnt fucking matter, especially with dream leaving her computer for weeks at a time
Yes
Wait so what is decided so far
I meant for everything
very much not worth it due to being slower for data rate while having the higher endurance, and currently tlc nand is the most optimal of them giving you the best speed to endurance
7950x3D, 4090 liquid suprim x
Breh
this and some ram @pastel flax
The simplest of things so far and it’s taken 2 months
What ram
5600 cl28
Is she joking?
primarily g.skill ripjaws
it'll work though as it's xmp and not expo it may mean manually entering in the timings for it to run stable
idealy you'd want expo rated ram
like a kit of g.skill flare x5 6000 cl30
it has the same overall first word latency, but with a higher bandwidth
Yes that’s what you want
wheres the issue
it's the sweet point for 7000 series ryzens, which has been confirmed by amd themself
though with x3d cpu's you can run lower speed ram and still be fine
u realize how miniscule the difference is
x3d cache is funny in itself tbh
i have a feeling you know nothing and just spout shit snowzy
you just give off that vibe
Fr
Lol
with a "3000" budget, why not go 8000
Yes but she wants optanes in that budget also
because am5 wont hit that
Yeah she thinks 6400 cl36 is better than 6000 cl32
without much tuning
It can just not stably
Oh I thought you meant dream
who is running 8000 MT/s ram on am5
buildzoid, some fellows on here as well
80,000 ?!??!?!?!!
5800x3d showed that the gain you'd get with 3600mhz ram on something like a 5700x (roughly 3% overall) is reduced to a 0.3% gain, which in the end is nothing
typo lmao, mb

Someone who wishes to have theoretical pc be as unstable as possible?

Fr
She can have quad 4090s
nah, it's doable but it'll take the whole weekend to tune it
She can't but they'll be no use
no, she cant
*can
and there would be no point
3k = 2x 4090 at most
its not 3K anyway
Rtx 6000 ada yes those cards have nvlink still somehow iirc but they're like 10k each
but there would be nothing else
that doesnt exist
it exists, and was beaten by an rtx 4090
wait is that a quadro?
It does exist
if so it probably does
yes, the a6000 ada is a quadro
i wasnt thinking of quadro, mb
though rtx 6000 = turing, rtx a6000 = ampere, rtx a6000 ada = ada lovelace
what is it then
for the mlc, a samsung 970 pro

I’m genuinely baffled. Not a single person has recommended her an optane drive and strongly rejected the possibility of an optane drive and gave a full explanation why. Yet she’s still claims that every single person is wrong. She must be some sort of master pc builder above everyone here
It’s funny I’m legit coming back to this chat every so often just to see it built
And we’re still on storage
