Could someone please go over these parts and sanity check the choises? This is the first time in over 15 years that I build with AMD. Do I need a bigger PSU for example? And yes, because of solidworks and cam-software and Unreal Engine builds, I need tons of RAM.

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2 GHz 8-Core Processor
  • CPU Cooler (Reuse): Noctua NH-D15 chromax.black 82.52 CFM CPU Cooler (Already have from last build, will re-use if I can find brackets)
  • Motherboard: Asus TUF GAMING B650-PLUS WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard
  • Memory: 2x Corsair Vengeance 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR5-6600 CL32 Memory (Total 128 GB)
  • Storage: Samsung 980 Pro 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive
  • GPU: XFX Speedster MERC 310 Black Edition Radeon RX 7900 XTX 24 GB Video Card
  • PSU: Corsair HX850 Platinum 850 W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply
  • Case (Reuse): Eclipse P600s

~Regards~

Dunno, but if that is the case, I'll have to find something else

#

Any better memory recommendations for a total of 128GB? RGB not desired/needed.

#

Seems the 7800 cant use more than 3600 MHz with 4 sticks

limpid tundra
#

I mean you can get anything I think and lower the mhz

main aspen
#

At the top of the pcpp list theres a button that copies the link to the page where you selected your parts

#

Also the ram you chose is unstable on ryzen

main aspen
#

And Asus will legitimately explode that cpu

#

Also that Noctua cooler is overpriced imo

limpid tundra
#

Go closed liquid cooled

random timber
random timber
#

Also, LTT sometime said Ryzen needs fast memory, but if I go with 128 GB, I'd need 4x32GB, which reduces the max ram frequency to 3600 Hz. Is this still ok or do I have to go Intel for 128 GB high speed memory?

main aspen
#

Most Msi boards need bios updates to support X3D cpus

#

Oh wait your reusing the cooler

#

If you honestly need to use so much ram you might as well go intel

random timber
#

I only put the cooler in the list cause pcpartspicker whined if it was not there 😄

#

if I go intel CPU, I'd need a bigger PSU too, right?

main aspen
#

The 13900K and 7800X3D have a tdp of 125 watts and 120 watts

#

So no unless you decide to get a 13900KS

random timber
#

Checking intel parts now to see how much bigger hole it makes 😄

#

Would 2x48GB be preferably over 4x32GB? Fusion360 CAM and Unreal Compilations tend to eat a lot, but would be nice if it was good too 🙂

#

Hm... Is AIO Liquid better than the Noctua NH-D15?

limpid tundra
#

Yes I think

random timber
limpid tundra
#

I mean when are you buying this thing if wait a month or so you can the 14 gen Evan though it’s not a big increase it’s still something

civic garden
#

but its useless

#

anything past 6400 is diminishing

limpid tundra
#

They changed it

civic garden
#

for 13900k get an aio

limpid tundra
#

Also bigger psu may be good idea

#

I think

limpid tundra
#

Get 4x48 this board supports it

civic garden
#

4x32 if u want more (but limit it to around 5600)

random timber
#

I have 1600 mhz ddr4 now. Dunno which is best for me, honestly, 32GB additional ram or a bit more speed...

limpid tundra
#

Just do both

random timber
limpid tundra
#

That fine for literally everything

civic garden
#

if u are running 4x32 then 5600 should be fine

#

6000 maybe, depends on the mobo and cpu used

regal locust
#

slightly better read/write speed (doesnt really matter) but same price than 980 pro

#

also 4 sticks of ram is unstable on d5

#

i mean, not always but its way more recommended to just get 2 stiks

slender hatch
#

Now amd is doing fine with higher mhz

#

But I don't know about 4 sticks

#

After new AGESA people are going upto 7600mhz on amd

regal locust
#

i'd rather get 2x48 than 4x32

junior lance
#

wait theres 48 gig sticks?

foggy violet
#

i am running with corsair vengeance 6400mhz 64gb, with no problems so far on asrock x670e taichi and 7900x3d. But i manually set the soc volt to 1.25 to be on the safer side, as the xmp profile in the motherboard set the voltage to 1.30.

random timber
#

To me it makes no difference between Intel and amd on the CPU side, I can go with either. But I think I would favor more ram over a bit more speed. And I want more than I have now, cause 64GB is a bit on the low side. I'm idling around 30GB used after all.

limpid tundra
#

Go intel for what you want your doing you need a workstation cpu and gaming

civic garden
civic garden
#

and nvidia gpu

#

xtx is eh compared to 4080 in cam

#

let me reiterate in cam (to all of u telling him to get an xtx)

random timber
#

I was afraid that would be the case... So much more expensive for comparable performance in games

civic garden
#

ya in games xtx is better

#

but in solidworks nvidia is better

random timber
#

A lot better? And which brand/model of 4080? I do not have enough cold in my room to run a 4090 😛

civic garden
#

just an idea

#

oh reuse case

random timber
#

G.Skill a decent brand? I've ever only used Corsair Vengance memory 😄

main aspen
#

Yes

limpid tundra
#

You should be fine

random timber
#

If it is sufficient for a non-overclocked 13700k

#

I hope I can change the colors of the RAM LED's with the choosen motherboard... Mainly, turn the leds off

limpid tundra
random timber
#

Ty all. I think I have some guidelines on what to get now.

random timber
steady topaz
#

Idk bout the 980 pro tho

#

There are way better 2 tb pcie 4.0 m.2 for the price

#

Solidigm p41

civic garden
#

sn850x

#

cad = fast ssd pretty much

random timber
#

Dunno about that p41... according to the stats on pcpartspicker, it seems garbage compared to both 980 pro and sn850x

steady topaz
#

Doesn’t matter what it says on pcpartpicker

analog mountain
#

wait.... 128gb?

civic garden

weird

random timber
#

CAM* machining path calculations

#

CAD works fine, but CAM not.
Unreal Engine compilation could also use more ram than what I have, since I frequently have to re-run the compilation cause out of ram-issues

steady topaz
#

You might have more ram issues with 4 sticks

random timber
#

Still not sure about cooler... AIO (the previously recommended Deepcool LS720) or D15 😄

karmic holly
#

that D15 cooler is all you need for 13700K

random timber
#

Okay

analog mountain
#

D15 is so mid though

#

since a PS120 beats it

#

and is 3x cheaper

#

wait nvm

#

you cant buy it

vital spindle
#

Even a PA120 se would work just as good
