little mango
#

i chackmarked "use microsoft ... api" on rivatuner statistics server and after i restarted my pc my windows taskbar doesnt work propperly

#

the windows button, the notification area, shortcut contextmenues. non of these work anymore

#

im4h+ into looking for a solution

#

im gonna loose my mind

#

i reset my windows a few days ago, cuz i had this same issue. but back then i didnt checkmark anything

#

we can go on a call and screenshare if thats gonna help

turbid loom
#

"use microsoft ... api" what's the exact setting

little mango
#

no

#

this is the exaxt setting i used

#

im not 100% sure if this caused it

#

i found many sites mentioning these together

#

but no solution i can understand anywhere

#

i turned this thing on to be able to "game cature" in obs

#

and it worked out, but after restarting my pc, my windows taskbar was fked

#

i tryed every YT solution i could find

#

i rly dont wanna factory reset my pc again

turbid loom
#

that's really interesting

#

is this win10 or 11?

turbid loom
#

It's going to be tough finding forum/bug reports for this, because it's a really broad issue that could have many causes. In other words, there's a good chance all of these are completely unrelated

#

Have you booted into the Windows repair/safeboot menu and tried the automatic repair?

#

Have you unchecked that option in RTSS?

little mango
#

idk about automatic repair, but i had to safe start at some point and i didd everything form this vid for example

turbid loom
#

Yeah this is what I was getting at earlier. This is a broad issue and these videos are going to be very unhelpful

little mango
#

what does board issue mean?

#

is my mainboard broken?

turbid loom
#

No, you're fine dude

#

An easy first step here is to do the automatic repair provided by windows
Go to click on the restart option, but hold shift while you're doing it

#

It should boot into a menu like this

little mango
#

i unchecked the option in rtss and restarted my pc but it didnt help

turbid loom
#

Click advanced options > startup repair

little mango
#

ok, i will try this

#

wait

#

i cant

#

the windows button is not working xD

turbid loom
#

can you click on the start menu at all?

little mango
#

nope

#

search bar is not working

turbid loom
#

otherwise, just restart and select the power/reset option in the login screen

little mango
#

win key is not responding

little mango
#

in login screen i will try

turbid loom
#

remember to hold Shift when you click restart

little mango
#

oki

#

the repair option failed

turbid loom
#

It failed to finish or was unable to find any issues?

little mango
#

i dont remember the exact wording and it was in german as well. but i think i couldnt even get started

short tundra
#

It's either that I'm stupid, or this problem has an extremely easy solution

#

Put in a usb drive, go to bios, set the usb drive as the boot device, and boot up your pc

#

(the usb drive needs to have an os installed btw)

little mango
#

whats that gonna do? for reapiars`?

short tundra
#

Nothing, you can then recover your data and reset your pc

little mango
#

i dont wanna reset my pc

turbid loom
#

The whole point here is to avoid doing a reset

little mango
#

i just did that a few days ago

short tundra
#

I know, but I thought you were avoiding resetting your pc because you didn't want your data to be lost

little mango
#

nah, its just to much effort to set everything up agian and again

turbid loom
#

im4h+ into looking for a solution
FWIW, it's going to get to a point (or already has) where the amount of time you spend trying to fix this bug takes longer than it would have to just reinstall windows

short tundra
#

Does your boot drive have other applications on it?

little mango
#

i just want to know to the exact solution to my problem, so i can just fix it fast next time it happens

short tundra
#

Wait, are you using windows 10 or 11?

turbid loom
#

10

short tundra
#

I think you can fix it by downloading windows 11

little mango
#

i my e drive for all optional software

short tundra
#

Try downloading windows 11

little mango
short tundra
#

ah

#

Have you tried already?

little mango
#

yes

#

iot says my cpu is sht

#

its 4th gen

short tundra
#

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

little mango
#

but a good cpu imo

#

i need to buy new cpu mainboard and ram if i ever wanna upgrade

short tundra
#

Did you actually try?

little mango
#

that gonna be a littleexpensive for me

short tundra
#

You should have the minimum requirements

#

How much ram do you have?

little mango
turbid loom
short tundra
turbid loom
#

But it is possible to bypass it

little mango
turbid loom
#

Yep

#

So, insisting on an 11 update probably isn't the answer here

little mango
short tundra
#

Wait, try restarting your pc and when you go into the login page, press restart while holding shift

#

I think that takes you to the automatic repair thing

little mango
turbid loom
short tundra
#

you said to press the windows key

#

I said to press the restart key on the signup page

#

wait lemme try it myself

little mango
#

i did this already

turbid loom
#

I literally said exactly that

short tundra
#

ah

#

sorry

turbid loom
#

Automatic repair did nothing

short tundra
#

Wait

#

can you try going into safe boot?

turbid loom
#

That was going to be my next suggestion before you steamrolled a win11 install

short tundra
#

cool

#

@little mango You here?

little mango
#

yea

short tundra
#

Have you tried going into safe boot?

little mango
#

thjis is a lot of steps to fix this

turbid loom
little mango
#

i did step one already

#

im crying

short tundra
turbid loom
little mango
turbid loom
short tundra
#

just telling you, I once tried fixing my laptop's os for a week straight

turbid loom
#

@little mango Go for a walk, step away from the computer for a bit

short tundra
#

and it worked out because I had patience

turbid loom
#

That's a great story dude, thanks for sharing

short tundra
turbid loom
#

Get some fresh air and revisit this tomorrow. Trust me, it'll help a lot

little mango
#

thx man

worn belfry
#

Have you tried just restarting the taskbar ?

#

This used to happen to me occasionally in the past, for what reason I don't know

#

Following those instruction to restart windows explorer always fixed it for me

little mango
little mango
#

i want my windows 7 back q_q at this point im considdering to try out linux for the first time... but there is no valorant on linux ...

turbid loom
#

If you like Win 7, you'd dig this anyways, as it can reskin the taskbar to look like 7

little mango
#

the software is doin its job, by giving me a funktional windows button. but when i close it, the windosw button still doesnt work. and also even if running i cant rightlick or edit shortcuts cant click on clock or notifications either. so its basicly just giving me a makeup windows button
