I have recently been trying to switch to a different resolution aka a stretched resolution. To acquire this resolution I use Nvidia control panel and use the customize option and create a custom resolution. After creation I attempt to apply this resolution aka 1440x1440 but it just resets and defaults back to 1920x1080. Any help?

This sounds likely to be the case, you'll need to go down in resolution rather than up in order to make it work
Display isn't going to like attempting to display more pixels than it can vertical
How stretched res's work, is you just have a lower resolution and stretch it to display via scaling
A common one i see for apex is around 1680x1050 as an example
