#Good starter build?

Don’t be afraid to buy a motherboard that may not have a updated bios for the 5600x as long as it is usb bios flash compatible you can flash it with no cpu
5600 + cooler > 5600x
not too bad, the 5600 and 5600x are basically the same thing so you can save there and maybe go for a better power supply
psu is good enough tbf
if you all have any specific recommendations let me know
but he can stretch $20 and get an A-tier 750w unit for the future if he wants

oh yeah the hydro g
the hydro g pro?
yes
does that board have flashback
it says the board isnt even compatible
thats a default thing pcpp says with most am4 boards
no but its been 4 years, theyre all gonna have a new enough bios at this point
it hasnt been four years
the 5600 was released way after the 5600x
4/2022
its safe to assume that all b450 boards will not be updated for it
i meant the b450 lol
exactly
its not updated
the 5600 came out after the 5600x, some b450s may be updated for the x but 100% not the non-x
and the board doesnt have bios flashback
are u seeing the issue
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/TKqCsL @barren badger if you can afford then get the 6650xt, got you a cheaper psu

a520 wifi with beefy ass vrms
would the 5600g be better than the 5600 cause it seems even that one is a couple dollars cheaper
121 dollars compared to the 129 of the regular 5600
worse
the 5600g is not really a 5600. its based on the older architecture. the g indicates it has an APU though.
5600g is closer to the 3600 in performance
alright
based on all the suggestions ive gotten i seem pretty comfortable settling with this https://pcpartpicker.com/list/8rgvzf

I'll need a cooler but I'll deal with that when the right time comes.
i'm surprised there isnt a compatibility warning, that board should not have the 4/2022 bios update; probably pcpp tripping
and it also lacks bios flashback
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Nb3Lv3
changed to a board that has bios flashback and a speedier/more reliable SSD

if the noise is acceptable then you can just stay with the stock cooler
Alright I’ll see how it is
I would still Defo upgrade that board
It has literally no vrm cooling which you’d be surprised how hot the inside of your case will get without them
It won’t handle future upgrades very well
If you wanna move to the 5700x-5800x I’m not sure if 4+2 is a good bet
I’d at least try to shoot for about a $100 board. Gigabyte has some decent buys for the price
just get the b550 phantom gaming, if youre worried about vrms then get the a520 asus tuf wifi
its $89
lol what
it doesnt completely lack heatsinks
and upgrading on am4 is silly
Not true
it is true
You can still find quality boards for a good price
They’ve gotten a lot cheaper since am5 has came out
no one is buying am4 currently with the intent of upgrading
sure when theres sales and stuff. wanted to stay under 600 and there are currently no sales
Newegg literally constantly has sales on am4 boards lol
there is no meaningful upgrade from a 5600 for gaming. by the time a 5600 is obsolete it would make much more sense to hop on a new chipset
notice how i said theres no sales rn 🤯
Their literally is lol
Not unless you extend to add to your workload
Honestly depending on their use case
for 95% of people; primarily gaming
it's a b550
show me then
Check this out on @Newegg:ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming 4 AM4 AMD B550 SATA 6Gb/s ATX AMD Motherboard https://www.newegg.com/asrock-b550-phantom-gaming-4/p/N82E16813157935?Item=N82E16813157935&Source=socialshare&cm_mmc=snc-social-_-sr-_-13-157-935-_-06262023
Those are on on sale….
neither have flashback
You said nothing about flashback lol
one is $50 above budget
its literally
a requirement
for this build
GIGABYTE B550 UD AC (AM4/ AMD/ B550/ ATX/Dual M.2/ SATA 6Gb/s/USB 3.2 Gen 2/ Intel 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/Realtek GbE LAN/PCIe 4.0/ Motherboard) https://a.co/d/8mX7icU

Still a better board and only $30 more then the shitty b450
doesnt fit in the case, out of budget
literally nothing wrong with the prime a ii if he’s not going to upgrade (most people won’t)
overspending on a dead chipset isnt wise imo
Simply buy a cheaper ATX case
I guess
But am4 is still worth spending money on lol
not really lol
For a lot of people it still is lol. Ddr4 is stupid cheap
ddr5 is stupid cheap
Am5 is still considerable more expensive lol. Am4 is still worth spending money on
Until the cpu lineup prices drop anyway
And the ram is still more expensive lol
literally $20 more expensive atp
board prices are low as well
7600 is $220, crushes the 5700/5800x in single core, and even matches them in multi
And the 5800x3d still performs better in most games lol
no they’re equal on average
one is cheaper, infinitely easier to cool, and puts you on a better chipset
The 5800x3d is by no means hard to cool it can be cooled with a $50 tower cooler lol
And you’re gonna up $70 less for a board and $30 less on average for ram
And that’s only if you buy the minimum speed of ddr5 and the low end to mid tier am5 board
and the 7600 can be cooled by a $20 tower cooler
b650m pro rs is $140, $20 more than the minimum board i’d get with a 5800x3d
5600/6000 kits are under $80
and are by no means minimum speed lol
you can even get a 7600 + rgb 5600 ram for $68 on newegg rn
At 32gb of ram?
Literally no way
Maybeeeee 16gb
I haven’t seen a single kit of 32gb for less then $90 on ddr5
New games are regularly using more then 16gb tho so I’d go with 32gb
So instead of spending $30 more on a nicer board with flashback, nicer vrms, and more pcie. just spend $200-300 more on the next gen
Nice
You’ve been arguing the entire time it’s not worth upgrading a board on am4 instead upgrade to am5 cause am4 has no upgrade path lol bruh what
you literally brought up the 5800x3d
All I was saying is don’t buy a dirt cheap board theirs no point
I’m talking about originally 🤦🏼♂️
Doesn’t seem like you understand how we got to this point lol
its $30 more for no actual benefit
i was arguing that investing extra in a dead chipset is dumb
You literally get more pcie better vrm cooling and sometimes more usb
the vrms are fine, pcie and usb on even low end boards is fine for 99% of people
I’m done arguing with you 🤦🏼♂️
ok can someone just tell me what board to get lmao
and it should work with the cpu despite the compatibility warning?
says ill need to upgrade the bios
it has a bios flashback button, which means you can update the bios without a compatible chip
boards that dont have the button will require a compatible chip in order to update the bios, basically
ah
its as simple as downloading the bios onto a usb drive and pressing the button
Asrock updates their B450 boards out of the box, for future reference.
I recently built a system with a 5700x and B450 steel legend, it worked without any issues
