I want to try getting an actual PC. I've been putting this off for a long time but really want to get into it now. But I'm not good at knowing what goes together well.

This might sound odd but I want to have the gpu be an Arc A380 because of the insane value. However I will only use that gpu as the main gpu for less than a year, between 6-12 months after i get this pc i want to upgrade the main gpu to a 4070 or 4060.

So if you can could you please pick me a PC thats 750$, and wont bottle neck a 4070/4060 in the future. Or is that impossible?

crisp wharf
#

what?

#

a380 just to upgrade it in less than a year?

#

why would you do that

nocturne hemlock
#

I want to use it for encoding. i stream for fun alot

crisp wharf
#

you're gonna use two cards?

nocturne hemlock
#

yes in the end

thick lodge
#

eh

nocturne hemlock
#

but for the first 6-12 months just a380

crisp wharf
#

it's a waste to just reuse it as an encoder lmao

#

though, I'll see what I can do

#

(I suck at this btw)

#

you fine going with ddr4?

nocturne hemlock
#

how can taht be bad?

#

like whats the worst that could happen from using ddr4

#

(fyi im like a total noob)

crisp wharf
#

some people don't use ddr4 at all anymore because of future proofing

#

because of ddr5, it's dropped in price and is an insane value

#

16gb for 30$

#

or 32gb for 50$

#

ddr5 is like 100+

#

for 16

nocturne hemlock
#

oh kk ddr5 then yolo

#

oh wait

#

no

#

ddr4 32 gb

#

i thought u were saying ddr5 dropped in price

crisp wharf
#

it barely has any performance uplift, it just that newer CPUs are cutting dd4 support

nocturne hemlock
crisp wharf
#

I don't think you should worry about it because current ddr4 CPUs are still amazing

nocturne hemlock
#

yeah

#

money matters more for me for now

crisp wharf
#

you need wifi?

nocturne hemlock
#

i have a hard limit of 750$

#

no

crisp wharf
#

great, you just saved around 30ish

nocturne hemlock
#

i got a usb wifi adapter if ill need wifi

crisp wharf
#

those suck

#

USB?

nocturne hemlock
nocturne hemlock
nocturne hemlock
crisp wharf
#

a380 right?

nocturne hemlock
#

yes

crisp wharf
#

also rgb?

nocturne hemlock
#

not an rgb guy, but if i have it i dont mind it. most important things for me are price and frames

crisp wharf
#

I need to cut cost somewhere

#

it's 792.11

#

do you mind a worse case?

nocturne hemlock
#

hmm, no i think its fine, ill just save up for a bit

crisp wharf
#

wait, I forgot the cooler

nocturne hemlock
#

oof

crisp wharf
#

you mind downgrading to 16g

#

gb

nocturne hemlock
#

but i can upgrade in the future right, or would that have downsides?

#

also i have an nvme ssd, so storage isnt necessary

crisp wharf
#

oh

#

alright

#

45$ over budget

#

really overkill cpu for a380 though lol

#

wrong link

#

sorry about that

nocturne hemlock
#

lol its ok

crisp wharf
nocturne hemlock
#

i was so confused

crisp wharf
#

I'm using incognito so I don't mess up my build because for some reason you can have two

#

and incognito doesn't have link copying for me

#

so I was pasting the wrong one

nocturne hemlock
#

thats ok

#

yeah looks sweet i think, ill just ask some ppl for a second opinion and go order it

crisp wharf
#

ask rety, he's way better than me

#

though, fully explain the situation as he'll ask about the overkill cpu

nocturne hemlock
# crisp wharf https://pcpartpicker.com/list/xdhTd9

@grizzled dust Hi, so sorry to bother, if you can please check out this build and see if you think its ok, or if you think something should be changed.

the requirements were:
The build should be able to handle a 4060 or 4070 without being bottle necked, because i want to upgrade to that in about 6-12months time.
the build should start with a a380 GPU because when i upgrade I will use it for encoding streams/videos at 4k 75mbps.
The budget is $750-800

crisp wharf
#

I just love how you can force add people into these threads by pinging them

#

it's just waiting to be abused

grizzled dust
#

i would prob go with a 7600

#

oo the x is the same price rn

nocturne hemlock
#

no

crisp wharf
#

the x3d has 8x 16t, is the 7600 really that much better?

#

also, he has already requested dd4 over ddr5 since it's cheaper

nocturne hemlock
grizzled dust
#

no

#

but the 7600 is cheaper outright

nocturne hemlock
#

oof

grizzled dust
nocturne hemlock
#

btw arent x3d unstable or somethign?

grizzled dust
#

and same gaming performance

#

the 7600 just puts you on a better platform

crisp wharf
#

they have good out the box performance to make up

nocturne hemlock
#

kk

crisp wharf
grizzled dust
nocturne hemlock
#

damn

crisp wharf
#

that is good

grizzled dust
#

do you want rgb? @nocturne hemlock

crisp wharf
#

see what I meant when I said I suck at this

grizzled dust
nocturne hemlock
grizzled dust
crisp wharf
grizzled dust
#

well

#

the lancool 216 is the best performing case in its stock config

#

but the cg560 is still good and has argb fans, not to mention cheaper

#

cases are largely preference tbf

#

temp variance is usually minimal so you just go with what you like and/or is well priced

crisp wharf
#

lancool 216 is a personal preference to me as I prefer 2 massive front fans vs 3 fans

that's why I chose it in my list

grizzled dust
#

@nocturne hemlock question, does your current build have something better than an a380?

nocturne hemlock
grizzled dust
#

oh laptop

crisp wharf
#

off topic but I just want to mention, I love how the a770 looks but it's overpriced for what it is

nocturne hemlock
nocturne hemlock
crisp wharf
#

a 4070 will definitely fix that

#

how are you gonna afford that?

nocturne hemlock
grizzled dust
#

hard to mess up building

nocturne hemlock
#

ill be rewatching ltts huge pc building vid

grizzled dust
#

i'd watch or at least skim through some build guides beforehand

#

always read manuals if you're confused on anything

#

thats about it

nocturne hemlock
#

ok phew

#

I CAN DO IT

#

ill keep this thread open just in case i run into hella trouble

crisp wharf
grizzled dust
#

actually, i'm kinda iffy about the a380

#

you would be using that for stream encode? after you get a 4070?

nocturne hemlock
nocturne hemlock
grizzled dust
#

i'm thinking you just get a 6600 for now

#

just so your actual gaming performance is better than what you have now

#

you can just stream with nvenc when you get your 4070

nocturne hemlock
#

how much is it

grizzled dust
#

dedicated encoding card isnt really worth it

grizzled dust
crisp wharf
#

also, what are your thoughts on adding in an identical ram kit later on for an upgrade? someone told me it isn't a good idea, is that true? @grizzled dust

grizzled dust
nocturne hemlock
grizzled dust
#

4 sticks on zen4 will run at maybe 5200 tops

nocturne hemlock
grizzled dust
#

i'm recommending the 6600 because you'd have a better gaming experience

grizzled dust
crisp wharf
nocturne hemlock
crisp wharf
#

it's also 100$ over budget

grizzled dust
#

you also might be better off using h265

grizzled dust
#

ideally get the same kit and model number

crisp wharf
#

alright thanks

nocturne hemlock
grizzled dust
#

for QSV

#

the onboard iGPU/encoder will outperform pretty much any graphics card's onboard encoder

#

and you can even dual encode

nocturne hemlock
#

ohhh integrrated graphics?

nocturne hemlock
grizzled dust
#

you'd probably have to stick with ddr4 to fit a 13600k within your budget

grizzled dust
#

so really you wouldn't even need an nvidia gpu unless you want to dual encode

#

or want other nvidia features

nocturne hemlock
#

ok, then i dont even need to buy a gpu at first

grizzled dust
#

well

#

if you want to game on your new system you do 😅

#

motherboard seems cheap and it's matx but it has great vrms

nocturne hemlock
grizzled dust
#

valorant and csgo wont, no clue about age of empires

#

you could pick up a used rx 580 off ebay for like $60 tho

nocturne hemlock
#

age of empires is easier to run than valorant

nocturne hemlock
#

its an rts from 2013

#

barely 3d

grizzled dust
#

oh yeah it runs fine on uhd

nocturne hemlock
#

ok, gpu not necessary then

#

right?

grizzled dust
#

yep

#

i'd still want more than 144 fps at least 😭

crisp wharf
#

some cost-cutting going on here

nocturne hemlock
#

okie doki, thanks so much dud

nocturne hemlock
grizzled dust
#

would really recommend just picking up a used rx 580 or something in the meantime

nocturne hemlock
#

rn i dont even have a 144 screen

grizzled dust
#

they're 60 bucks and they kinda hold their value

grizzled dust
#

especially for csgo/val

#

more updated frames

crisp wharf
#

crazy

nocturne hemlock
crisp wharf
#

no I don't

#

it was free

nocturne hemlock
#

get 1440p 144hz

crisp wharf
#

I can get a better one later

nocturne hemlock
grizzled dust
#

@nocturne hemlock
rx 580 performs like the 1060 at the bottom

#

everything at the top is integrated graphics

nocturne hemlock
grizzled dust
#

its 60 bucks

grizzled dust
nocturne hemlock
grizzled dust
#

$742

nocturne hemlock
#

also need to get my family from mexico to here so money's tight

crisp wharf
grizzled dust
#

i'm still at 1080p with a 6950xt lmao

nocturne hemlock
crisp wharf
grizzled dust
crisp wharf
#

I don't need this overkill of a gpu, I just want to

grizzled dust
#

kept getting good monitor deals on 1080p panels so i havent made the switch to 1440p yet

#

1080p ultrawide 200hz for $200, 1080 280hz for $150

crisp wharf
#

is is more hz cheaper?

#

honestly just need 144hz max

#

I'll upgrade later

grizzled dust
crisp wharf
#

I used to have 2 1080p 60hz monitors

grizzled dust
#

dell has been going insane lately

crisp wharf
#

don't know what happened to one of em

grizzled dust
crisp wharf
#

just disappeared one day

nocturne hemlock
# grizzled dust i'm still at 1080p with a 6950xt lmao
grizzled dust
#

a bit of an older panel

#

theres some better options now

#

/cheaper

nocturne hemlock
#

ah kk

crisp wharf
nocturne hemlock
grizzled dust
#

ideally with it

#

but yeah thats up to date

nocturne hemlock
#

kk thx

nocturne hemlock
#

cant belive you guys fit so much power into less than $700

#

again, thank you so much yall! @grizzled dust @crisp wharf

grizzled dust
#

i love minmaxing

#

basically squeezing in as much performance as possible without compromise on quality

crisp wharf
nocturne hemlock
crisp wharf
nocturne hemlock
#

hahahahaaa
