So model is Omen 16-b0080tx
It currently has a 512 GB gen 4 SSD.
From what I've seen online it has 2 slots, 1 gen 4 and one gen 3.

I'd like to put the current one in the gen 3 slot and a 980 pro (https://www.amazon.ae/SAMSUNG-PCIe-Internal-Gaming-MZ-V8P1T0B/dp/B08GLX7TNT/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?crid=1JRZ5I93RHTVU&keywords=980+pro&qid=1686933545&sprefix=980+pro%2Caps%2C290&sr=8-2)

In the gen 4 slot.

Q1. Ive seen many versions of the Samsung SSD. Is the 980 pro the best one (excluding 990). Does it have dram or whatever it's called?
Q2. Is it compatible (just confirming)
Q3. To make the new one my boot drive I'd have to clone the 512 gb SSD on the 1 TB one and then wipe the 512 gb one right?
Q4. Do i have to do stuff in the BIOS?

Answers

Q1 - It's pretty much the best in gen4. And it has 1gb of dram

Q2 - It should be

Q 3 - I moved windows over from my HDD to my SSD when I got it by cloning so yes, I'm sure there are other ways though but thats how I did it.

Q 4 - The only thing you want to do in bios is make sure your ssd is set to first boot priority

the gen 3 slot might be a slot for the wifi card

yeah

But still can be confused for a storage slot

#

A laptop spec list could list two M.2 slots, and one could confuse it for two storage M.2 slots

#

but in reality it would be one storage M.2 slot and one wifi slot

Despite HP being HP I have NEVER seen them do that. Manufacturers do not mix storage and peripheral M.2 slots.
