Current build
CPU : 10850k
GPU :2080 ti
Ram : 32gb DDR4
Psu : 650W
Resolution : 1440p

I want to upgrade my system since i have experienced lower fps than i am comfortable with in recent titles, and would be sad to struggle to run stuff like Cyberpunk dlc coming later this year, and Starfield, among other games, however i dont currently have the budget to do a full upgrade, so i was wondering if it would be worth to just upgrade to a 4070? The raw fps gain is not huge, but it enables stuff like DLSS3.

What do you guys Think?

theres no point

#

I recommend just upgrading your psu and getting a 6800xt

#

Hmm actually

#

Maybe just wait for newer 7000 series cards to release

stark flower
#

at least a 4070ti

ember rain
#

Yeah

#

Just no 12gb for a card over $400

#

Nvidia has vram skill issue

#

If you Still care about efficiency I would say wait for the 7800 non xt to drop

#

May take awhile

#

But if it's anything like last generation 6800 non xt

#

It'll be very efficient

4070 isn't terrible value in the gpu market surprisingly, just a 60ti card priced at $600, but tbf that would mean the 6800xt and 3080 should be sub $400

It recommends a 850-950, which is priced at 120-170$ in my country

rugged ledge
# earnest dawn 750e is only $99

It Might depend on the third party versions? The 2 versions i have available for around 780$ says they require 950watt psu in the specs, that is however on the retailer site, so maybe its wrong

earnest dawn
#

and no a 750w psu is fine for a 350w gpu

yea

One last question then, do we know yet if i buy a 6950xt if i will be able to utilize fsr 3.0 whenever that comes?, or is that reserved for next gen?

rugged ledge
earnest dawn
#

id say so if you dontn have many games that utilize dlss or ray tracing

#

otherwise sure a 4070

#

this ones technically cheaper

rugged ledge
#

What i would mainly use this upgrade for are new AAA single player titles, like Cyberpunk, Hogwarts, starfield, etc etc, and they tend nowadays to release with RTX and DLSS support (also dlss3 now lately) so going forward Ye i am wondering if i am missing out by not having an RTX card, especially for the dlss3, i know ppl say it looks bad, but from gameplay ive seen from friends, i cant tell the difference, except the UI elements issues

earnest dawn
#

id say just get the 4070 then

rough saddle

$600 for slightly more performance and dlss 3 idk

rugged ledge
# rough saddle $600 for slightly more performance and dlss 3 idk

Yeah that is my problem, i don't know if i can justify it, the question is will most games from now on launch with DLSS3? Cuz if so, for me that would mean 4070 is on average 50-80% performance upgrade (assuming i always use DLSS3 in new games).

The other option is i splurge slightly more and go for 4070 TI, which would also require a PSU upgrade to 750w i think? which would mean a 4070 TI upgrade would cost me 1100$

stark flower
#

if the 4070 gets shit fps, you dont want to enable dlss 3

stark flower
#

in cyberpunk at 1080p it only uses 240w

rugged ledge
# stark flower if the 4070 gets shit fps, you dont want to enable dlss 3

I read that 100FPS+ is where you want to be for DLSS3 to feel good, and from what i've seen on 4070 it runs fx Cyberpunk at max settings, DLSS quality + FG = 130 FPS+. Hogwarts Legacy DLSS quality + FG = 130 FPS+. Obviously it depends on how optimized the game is, but based on current games, i don't know if it's bold to assume i can expect 100+ FPS in new titles aswell, especially tweaking the settings lower aswell, since these numbers are maxed out settings

stark flower
#

but yeah you can tweak settings

rugged ledge
stark flower
#

i dont think you ever want DLSS enabled at 1080p

#

4070 is more 1440p oriented, yea

rugged ledge
# stark flower 4070 is more 1440p oriented, yea

Last question for you then i guess is, if it was you, what would you do. pay the 1000-1100$ for the 4070 TI upgrade, or the 750$ for the 4070 "Upgrade".

A bit of context maybe is also that next year i will finish my studies as a Software developer, which is why i am trying to see if i can get an upgrade for small money right now, since next year i'll most likely do a full super high end upgrade when nvidia launches next gen GPUs

stark flower
#

ok, are you sure you cant hold on to that 2080ti for a bit longer?

#

cause if you plan to upgrade again youre just wasting your money

rough saddle
#

4070ti is a scam

rugged ledge
# stark flower ok, are you sure you cant hold on to that 2080ti for a bit longer?

That is the constant debate in my head ๐Ÿ˜„ Because obviously that's the smart and reasonable thing to do, but i don't know why, but not being able to enjoy story games at reasonable and quality takes a lot of the experience away from me, to the point where i'll constantly be annoyed that i couldn't experience it at high quality, or high FPS. I am still mad to this day that Cyberpunk ran like shit for me, or that i currently can't enjoy witcher 3 next gen with all the new great stuff without playing at 40 FPS. And i would hate for that to be the case for Starfield, or any new titles

#

But yeah you're right, the obvious and right choice is to not upgrade ๐Ÿ˜„

stark flower
#

is it 40fps with RT off

#

or RT on

rough saddle
#

no way it runs that bad rt off

stark flower
#

cause cyberpunks lighting is already good even without RT

rugged ledge
# stark flower is it 40fps with RT off

Depends on areas, out in the open around grass etc, i pull around 60-70FPS in Witcher 3 next gen without RT enabled, but settings on max, and in towns / cities it dips down, to 40-50 or so

rough saddle
#

go med-high instead of ultra/max?

rugged ledge
#

And i noticed on starfield direct this weekend the recommend specs on PC showed a 2080, which worries me since most games i've played where they recommend 1000 series (such as hogwarts recommending 1060), it actually turns out i need everything on medium, DLSS performance just to pull 80+ FPS, which worries me when Starfield then lists 2080 ๐Ÿ˜„ And then Bethesda reputation on top of it ๐Ÿ˜„

rugged ledge
# rough saddle go med-high instead of ultra/max?

It doesn't change much, If i go all settings on medium or high and DLSS quality, then i get around 60-65 FPS in Novigrad (City), which is still "playable" but last time i played Witcher 3 was before next gen, so feels kinda pointless to come back to next gen update to enjoy the better look, if i then have to put everything to medium settings to play it ๐Ÿ˜„

#

But yeah you guys are right, i should wait till next year for the big upgrade, and then just suck up the fact that i'll have to play these games at slightly worse quality/performance, 4070 would probably be a really stupid purchase

rough saddle
#

i mean the performance gains are there (ish) its just kinda unfortunate that nvidia has to crutch DLSS3 to make a card "worth it"

#

i'm seeing a 4070 rn for 570 and you could probably get.. $250 for your 2080ti?

rugged ledge
rough saddle
#

oh, denmark

#

$750 US is pretty rough yeah

rugged ledge
rough saddle
#

def not worth it at that price
