4090, 12900k, 64gb ddr4 3200mhz dimm. I need to get a better psu and probably a 13900k to be more up to date
12900k is fine imo. It’s only 1 generation old
Agreed, wouldn't hurt though. I ended up getting a 1300w psu due to having some fps drops due to it being under volted
brotha a 1300w is enough for any specced pc that isnt 2 3090tis
also if just gaming, a 7800x3d
I only got the 1300w because it was on sale for less then a 1200w and I went with a 12900k because I know intel better ontop of I used to stream
I've had both amd and Intel cpus and im more comfortable with Intel
I've also just had tons of issues with amd drivers in the past with their gpus
but those are gpus
and if were going based off drivers intel is way worse
cpus there is no difference between them
True but seeing how I've never had issued with Intel and nvidia in the past with Intels cpus and new gpus and none of nvidas gpus I tend to stick with them over amd, just personal preference.
Even seeing how the 13900k and 4090 are the fastest gaming combo you can get even tho it's rather expensive
I also enjoy the fact I don't have to reseat ram when cpu swaping a Intel system
The past 3 amd systems I've built have had to reseat the ram
And Linus him self agrees when he built his last 4090 system.
Amds cool and they make great products for gaming, my best friends dad programs for amd and both his and his dads pcs are amd so I got really nothing against them. It's really up to personal preference at the end of the day

and when did he build this system?
because the 7800x3d is faster
at a third of the wattage
also it doesnt need crazy fast pricey ram
I’m honestly all for this “overkill performance, it means that the price of things that still are good but don’t really compare will drop significantly.
You don't need fast ram, I have ddr4 3200mhz and have no issues
It was a live stream build he did little over 3 months ago
He said it was the fastest gaming setup you could get
what? you have a 13900k with ddr4?
No I have a 12900k
I wanna get a 13900k tho
Good thing I don't have to upgrade my motherboard to do so
Just update its bios and I can use ddr5 and a 13900k on it
Ddr4 and ddr5 are not interchangeable
that too lol
And neither are any of the other ram generations
also is a 13900k slower with 3200mhz
Z690 motherboards require a bios update in order to use both ddr4 and 5
im pretty sure it is
no, where did you get this info?
ddr5 is literally keyed differently
The notch on the ram is physically in a different place for ddr5. Also, the power management is moved to the dimm for ddr5
its like tryijng to use an amd cpu on an intel mobo
Yeah basically
The manufacturers website
Screenshot?
give me a quote or picture of it
I'll look for it in a sec I'm at work didn't expect to have a hardware showdown lol
Kinda blurry but you get the idea
its not a big difference, like 7-10% slower with ddr4, though with yours more like 10%
but still 7800x3d is just faser
the difference is negligible except in cache heavy gamers
games
where it will be a more noticeable win for the x3d
No one has a direct comparison of a ddr4 dimm and a ddr5 dimm, it’s kinda annoying
See
Its one of the main reasons I went with a z690
I'll have to look for the 12th and 13th gen support when I get another second off
Although not full performance with 13th gen on a z690 it's very much possible with bios updates on the mobo
Then again if you don't use windows 11 you dont get fully 12th gen ether
Idc for windows 11 and my pc holds 165 fps solid on a 1440p display
That’s really weird, what website is that exactly?

My motherboard is both, I built a pc for a friend who went with ddr5 with the same motherboard I have and with a quick bios update it worked no problem
Sat around 5300mhz
The same mobo can be either ddr4, or ddr5, not both. That’s what the website is saying
It can because I've done it
It requires a bios update but it's possible
I have tried
What’s your motherboard exactly?
Yeah, so yours is the ddr4 version, his is the ddr5 version
Do you know the model number?
No his is the ddr4
But I had to update the bios for the board to recognize the ddr5
Like stock it couldn't read it
Hmmmmmm
But after I updated it to another version it recognized it
It doesn't run at max but we got it to run stable with his xmp profiles
This only shows ddr4, up to 5333MT/s
I also can’t understand how it would work since the power management (pmic) has been moved to the dimm instead of being on the motherboard
¯_(ツ)_/¯
Could you check with your friend to see what exact motherboard he has and ram?
Ask him to send a screenshot of the task manager ram page
I want to figure this out for sure
If I can get in touch with him I will for sure
If not I'll buy the ram he got to see if I can replicate it
We shall see
👍
