Hi. I don't have the possibility to have ethernet all the way from the router to my pc. It sucks, but it's the case. We tried Powerline network, but quickly realized that we lacked ethernet-ports on the router. Our WI-FI speed is great (140 Mbps), but as soon as my parents try to work (video conference), I tend to get a "Whatever it is you're doing, STOP IT!". How do I solve this (except from buying a new router or something)?

tbh the easiest way for these issues is just a rly long ethernet cable (and a small 4 port switch for ur situation)
not the best/cleanest looking but by far the cheapest and easiest to use

is it a length issue or is it more so cuz it looks jank?
or like u don't have access to the router?
The router is on another floor, in a room far away. Long Ethernet cable is not an option
What's a switch?
How does your router not have ethernet
I mean it's jank af but I just ran a flat ethernet cable all the way from the garage through the stairs to the first then to the second then to my room for a similar issue, idk if ur down for that or not tho lol
It does. All ports are busy though
Ah ok
It's possible, but my parents care about "how our house looks"
yeah that's fair tbh
But, is a switch like a splitter?
Yup, but a little bit smarter
basically yeah, if u don't think u would need that many more ports this 4 port one could work
And that doesnt affect speeds?
nope
Sounds like a solution to me
not till multiple devices use more than a gigabit at a time which is basically never for home use
Well, you split a gigabit connection to 4 devices, but good luck saturating that
So we'd get 250 MB/s:s each?

honestly a ripoff but get something like this to just plug the switch into ur current router
Monoprice Cat6 fixed length network cables are the perfect combination of value and performance. Available in a large assortment of colors and lengths, we have a cable to fit every situation. Each cable is made of 24AWG stranded pure copper conductor pairs with 50micrometer gold plated contacts (...
idk how they are still charging 5 for that, the cable is at most 10c and the 2 end caps like 5c each
If all of them want 100% of the connection yeah
But if someone has a zoom call, you will still have about 975 left on the switch
well technically 333mbps to the other 3 ports (not MB/s, megabits vs megabytes is a 1:8 difference) since 1 port is gonna work as the uplink to the router
do u have gigabit with ur isp?
isp?
internet service provider
internet service provider, like verizon/comcast in the US
or vodafone for your phone
I have no idea
140 on wifi
did say over wifi so it could be more
Well, the switch is gonna be enough either way
imo that's gonna be the limit for most home situations, not the switch/equipment
Thanks a lot
sorta annoying that if u use wifi they complain and if u try to run ethernet to resolve the issue they also complain
parents in a nutshell
indeed
