i no longer feel the vibrations coming from the tube, but it show it’s still going at 1800 rpm. can’t have computer on longer than 5 mins without temps getting too hot and shutting down. help please?
#did my aio pump stop working?

CPU temp in BIOS is 80 degrees, thats way too hot for bios
You're right, the pump isn't running. How old is the AIO
If it's not completely dead, there might be an air bubble in your pump, try taking the pump off and manipulating to get any bubbles to the top of the rad?
I feel like if there was a stuck bubble you'd really hear that whining
the aio is approaching 3 years i believe. it was working before i applied thermal paste. after applying the thermal paste, i could no longer feel the vibrations through the tubes like i used to
is there any signs of anything else being messed up? like the mobo or cpu?
You sure you have the pump header plugged into a fan port after re-pasting the CPU?
Looks like you do in the pics
i only ever unplugged the fan but that’s plugged in
I would unplug the pump power and maybe plug it somewhere else
it’s like something came loose or something idk. the cooler was working just fine. then i apply thermal paste and it’s completely dead apparently
i can get to the aio power. it’s on the back side of mobo
I'm 90% sure this is the pump power here
this is the wire going directly to the aio
There are two wires leaving the AIO. One for the pump, one for the RGB
that’s just the fan i believe. when i unplug it, water pump still shows 1800 rpm in bios
AIO pumps are almost always controlled by a fan header
the cpu fan will show n/a when that’s unplugged but the water pump still shows 1800 rpm so idk
Your fan is plugged somewhere else
Also 1800 is very much a fan speed, not a pump speed
Pumps run way faster
yea i’m very casual with this stuff. i thought thermal paste wouldn’t be a huge deal
pump was running at 1800 before this issue tho too
only one of the tubes were vibrating tho. i’m assuming both tubes should be vibrating?
What's the exact model of that AIO?
It's gonna easiest for both of us if you do what I suggest.
First thing is changing the header that I highlighted to another port, like the one next to it
yea i tried switching to the header next to it to no avail
When you left it unplugged, I'm guessing the fan was still running?
like ROOTminus1 said air bubbles might have formed
Yeah this is next step.
either that or u didnt screw it good enough that it makes contact
if none of this helped gg pump
yea the fan still moves when the wires unplugged
wat
the fan to the aio still goes when i unplug the pump
oh might be it has its own wire most of them do
That's because the cable you unplugged is for the pump, not the fan
The 1800rpm you're seeing is for the fan, which you likely have plugged into the pump header
in bios it says water pump 1800 rpm and cpu fan 5000 rpm
Trust me
hmm faulty header could be
i know i’m just dumb af with this stuff
Yes, you have the cables backwards.
Your fan is plugged into the pump header, your pump is plugged into the CPU fan header
The motherboard doesn't know which is which, it's just reading what's plugged into the pins
so the 5000 is my pump? and the 1800 is the fan?
yes
Do you hear the pump spinning up at all, when you turn it on?
i dont know of a fan that runs at 5000
Again, next step is to remove the pump block and give it a lil shake to move the bubbles
Yep, nearly all pumps run around that speed
not sure what to listen for really. all i know is i could feel vibrations going through one of the tubes before and now there’s no vibrations whatsoever
i tried reapplying a second time to no avail. i really don’t know what to do
vibration caused by air bubbles inside once its settle in the loop it becomes quiet
i already did that
Also tilt the case pretty steep in various directions
i reapplied it and made sure i put it on right
i wouldn’t use the term extremely tight. it’s definitely firm tho
one thing i did like an idiot was i had the pc upside down at one point. could that have done anything?
Not necessarily
is it supposed to be extremely tight? i feel like that would be bad for mobo no?
Do you think you could take a video with your phone right next to the pump block when turning it on? More about the audio than video
No, it's designed for strong mounting pressure
yea but idk if i can post vids here
You can
that probably when the air bubbles went inside the pump rather than the radiator
the second vid is focused solely on audio
put the mic right in front of the pump
Remove the pump and take a pic of the cpu w/ thermal paste on it, without touching anything
I want to see what the mounting pressure looks like
it’s difficult for me to remove the pump completely because i can’t unplug the rgb wire so i can only pull it so far off the cpu
you said you heard bubbles? how certain would you say you are about the bubbles?
I heard bubbles moving through the loop, which is totally normal
What I meant was, the pump is running
so the pump is fine? is it just not mounted properly then?
is there any reason why i can’t feel the vibration on the tubes like i used to?

I could be wrong but I'm 95% sure I head the water flowing for a moment in that video
i’m honestly just gonna take it to a pc repair place. they offer free diagnostics
thanks so much for your time and help. i’m a complete idiot with this stuff and this is so stressful. it literally makes my stomach hurt
is there a chance my mobo or cpu is fried? any signs of that?
Chidi Anagonye
No, I think it's just the AIO being a lame AIO
If they say you need a replacement, get a decent air cooler instead. AIOs are overrated
yea i’m gonna go for a normal ass cooler. screw all this noise lol. here’s to hoping🙏 thanks again man
Np
The huge problem with AIO's is, that most of them use aluminum radiators. And these often have residues from the manufacturing process, which will kill the AIO over time. And since almost all brands use these aluminum radiators for AIO's because they are much cheaper than full copper ones, it's much better to get yourself a proper air cooler.
yea i’m gonna go have it diagnosed at a pc shop today or tomorrow. i’m just hoping it’s not something more serious like a fried cpu or mobo
Check out if the PA 120 SE fits into your case.
You can get it for a really good price (around $50?)and it even beats Noctuas NH-D15 which costs over $100.
i was looking at either the peerless assassin or another one from the ltt vid a week or so back
Do you still have the stock cooler of your CPU, that came with it ?
Yea that's the PA120, but it's a chonky boi 😄
the aio is what came with this pc. bought it pre built
my case is pretty big so i think it would fit
inwin case. i hear they make good cases
A shit.. but your CPU should be fine.
They shut themselves down before any damage occurs to them.
yea but i had applied thermal paste and i just hope none of it got where it shouldn’t have
A shit? wym? the aio cooler is shit? lol that’s what i’ve heard
I mean the CPU shuts itself down 😄
if my mobo or cpu were damaged, would i still be able to boot into windows and perform tasks?
