Just helped my friend build his first PC and it's got a Wi-Fi motherboard (TUF Gaming B650 Plus WiFi). We initially forgot to put the antenna in before setting up Windows, but now that we have, Windows just isn't detecting it no matter what we try, including multiple network resets--it thinks this PC has wired internet only. Any ideas?
#No Wi-Fi on friend's newly-built PC

took the nuclear option and tried reinstalling windows just to cover our bases since we had barely done anything but no dice
looking in the device manager yields this and i forget how to fix it
I had the exact same problem. You need to install drivers. Go to asus website and get "realtek lan driver" (and all the other ones)
you can connect a laptop to it with an ethernet cable and share it's connection for temporary internet access if your not close to an ethernet cable
updating windows also helps with alot of new pc issues
considering TUF is an asus brand, we should probably use that product page
yeah lmao i forgot, I edited my message

yep, that is a motherboard.
we actually just remembered we could do that on our own, but the wifi driver package doesn't work--i tried running the exe and the batch file and neither actually do anything
that is the motherboard and the only place you should be getting that board’s drivers from
did you unzip them first?
yes
then install manually
what do you mean "does nothing" throws an error or nothing comes up?
nothing comes up
run as administrator
device manager > update > from local files > choose driver
okay everything but the network controller has proper drivers now
which folder specifically?
no dice
did you check for windows updates?
there are some but none that seem relevant to the wifi issue
install them
fair lol
honestly you never know
ya
still waiting on installing the updates
did you reboot after driver install?
can you run the driver exe from a batch file with PAUSE at the end to see what happens?
like this
Works
running the driver like that works?
Oh
no text in the command prompt when it paused; closed the window immediately when resuming
the command prompt closed immediatly or the driver install window closed immediatly
ah
Prompt closed and nothing else happened
have you tried restarting in safe mode?
hold shift and click restart at the same time, it will bring up a menu
its also called startup settings, then restart which enables safe mode
run the drivers
I’m having the same exact issue
same board?
no dice
update windows, then install drivers from gigabyte website
could end up being different
I just installed windows and installed drivers with nothing showing up
did you check for updates?
its wifi enabled and you plugged in the stick?
Wdym WiFi enabled
try an older version of the drivers from the website
The stick is already on the board
The box said it is WiFi ready
Bought it brand new
Only see this
looks like your connected to me
ah. have you installed gigabyte control center?
I think so
have you used it to update drivers?
Yes
okay i found a smoking gun when i opened the full list of downloads: there are three different drivers for three different brands
the bottom one worked
Wow
so this is what it looks like when you load into the page
and this is what it looks like when you hit "see all downloads"
the realtek one worked
Wait how do I get to the gigabyte thingy
windows > type gcc
download it from gigabyte website
Okey
Oh shit
I accidentally downloaded Norton
Dammit
It worked
Yay
Now I can play doom 1993
lmao nice
btw just so that you know in the future, you need to download drivers to use Wi-Fi, its not like it magically works without any data. 😄 thats why all boards come with the ethernet port
noted! this was my first time working with a wifi board
