Issue:
I recently swapped to a new GPU. After the swap I started having an issue when booting up a game the system would just turn off. I'd check Event Viewer and see errors like:
Reported by component: Processor Core
Error Source: Machine Check Exception
Error Type: Cache Hierarchy Error
Processor APIC ID: 1
The details view of this entry contains further information.
This typically happens after first booting up or returning after system sleep. I cannot quite figure out what exactly triggers it because it's not persistent.
Sometimes I can use the computer for a bit and run a game and play for hours without issue.
Things I've attempted so far:
- Default BIOS configuration
- Reseated GPU
- Reseated CPU & repasted
- Reseated RAM
- Tried new RAM sticks
- Reseated all power cables
- Fresh install of Windows
- Fresh install of games
- Disabled Global C-States in BIOS
I'm assuming my next steps are to determine if hardware issue. It could be the graphics card and I just need to RMA it. Or it could be the PSU, Motherboard, or CPU. I'm looking for suggestions in case I'm missing something.
I build this PC in May 2020 and this is my first hardware upgrade and first issue. It's ran smoothly since first building. My assumption is it's the GPU; however, it could potentially be the PSU but I never noticed because the power draw was much lower before.
Here are my system specs:
OS: Windows 11 Build 22621.1555
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3950X 16-Core Processor
Memory: G.SKILL Trident Z Neo (For AMD Ryzen) Series 64GB (4 x 16GB) 288-Pin RGB DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3600 (PC4 28800) Desktop Memory Model F4-3600C16Q-64GTZN. I'm using XMP with only two sticks for stability.
Motherboard: Asrock x570 Creator (Bios v3.90)
Drive1: Samsung SSD 970 EVO 1TB (NVMe)
Drive2: Samsung SSD 970 EVO 1TB (NVMe)
Drive3: Samsung SSD 860 EVO 1TB (Sata6)
Drive4: Samsung SSD 860 EVO 1TB (Sata6)
PSU: Corsair RM1000x
UPS: CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD PFC Sinewave UPS
For the GPU:
I used to run an EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti XC ULTRA GAMING, 11G-P4-2383-KR. However, I recently upgraded to XFX Speedster MERC310 AMD Radeon RX 7900XTX. I did the swap April 1st, 2023.
