Issue:
I recently swapped to a new GPU. After the swap I started having an issue when booting up a game the system would just turn off. I'd check Event Viewer and see errors like:

Reported by component: Processor Core
Error Source: Machine Check Exception
Error Type: Cache Hierarchy Error
Processor APIC ID: 1

The details view of this entry contains further information.

See: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/3567.event-id-18-microsoft-windows-whea-logger.aspx

This typically happens after first booting up or returning after system sleep. I cannot quite figure out what exactly triggers it because it's not persistent.

Sometimes I can use the computer for a bit and run a game and play for hours without issue.

Things I've attempted so far:

  1. Default BIOS configuration
  2. Reseated GPU
  3. Reseated CPU & repasted
  4. Reseated RAM
  5. Tried new RAM sticks
  6. Reseated all power cables
  7. Fresh install of Windows
  8. Fresh install of games
  9. Disabled Global C-States in BIOS

I'm assuming my next steps are to determine if hardware issue. It could be the graphics card and I just need to RMA it. Or it could be the PSU, Motherboard, or CPU. I'm looking for suggestions in case I'm missing something.

I build this PC in May 2020 and this is my first hardware upgrade and first issue. It's ran smoothly since first building. My assumption is it's the GPU; however, it could potentially be the PSU but I never noticed because the power draw was much lower before.

Here are my system specs:
OS: Windows 11 Build 22621.1555
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3950X 16-Core Processor
Memory: G.SKILL Trident Z Neo (For AMD Ryzen) Series 64GB (4 x 16GB) 288-Pin RGB DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3600 (PC4 28800) Desktop Memory Model F4-3600C16Q-64GTZN. I'm using XMP with only two sticks for stability.
Motherboard: Asrock x570 Creator (Bios v3.90)
Drive1: Samsung SSD 970 EVO 1TB (NVMe)
Drive2: Samsung SSD 970 EVO 1TB (NVMe)
Drive3: Samsung SSD 860 EVO 1TB (Sata6)
Drive4: Samsung SSD 860 EVO 1TB (Sata6)
PSU: Corsair RM1000x
UPS: CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD PFC Sinewave UPS

For the GPU:
I used to run an EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti XC ULTRA GAMING, 11G-P4-2383-KR. However, I recently upgraded to XFX Speedster MERC310 AMD Radeon RX 7900XTX. I did the swap April 1st, 2023.

Yeah. Twice. Even tried full reinstall of windows. Several times.

did you update bios?

I already had the latest. But I did reflash it

Install Ryzen master if you can

#

And make sure that Auto OC is NOT enabled

#

Things to check

#

Chipset drivers

#

SAM - resizable bar - above 4g decoding

#

I installed latest chipset drivers from AMD. I tried with SAM & Above 4G decoding enabled and disabled.

#

I believe I checked for Auto OC to be off but I'll double check.

#

Auto OC is off but PBO is on.

#

I noticed a setting on my PSU that called "Input Voltage Sensitivity" I changed it from "medium" to "high" to see if perhaps it's from voltage spikes loading games. If this don't work I suppose I'll try to RMA the GPU.

Clear cmos maybe?

Tried that too

I would say bad drivers 🤔

#

since its a very new gpu , bad random things can happen.

#

I thought that but since it doesn't seem like a lot of people are having this issue I think maybe not.

My PSU change didn't fix it.

I'm lost on what to do next if anyone has any suggestions.
