#my pc wont work
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
What did the blue screen error say?
i cant remember
Are there any lights that appear on your pc after you turn it on or any beeping noise?
no i only have 1 small green light inside my pc but that stays on all the time
Do this, let's check first if there are any loose cables or something that might have unplugged
i have many loose cables that have been there forever
i dont have a cable connected to my gpu
one of my fans just started spinning for a second
Then connect your power cable back
Oh nvm your saying your GPU takes power through pcie
do you see a battery on the motherboard?
not sure what one looks like
then it's covered behind the gpu
can you take it off if you know how to do it?
ye i do 1 sec
remove it for about a minute then put it back in
how do i remove it
doesnt really come out
here's a tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9hyEPTFR10
In this video I will teach you how to remove your cmos battery in your pc whether be in ATX or mATX or mini ITX motherboard. Removing the cmos battery for 5 minutes will give a hard reset on your motherboard and this will clear unnecessary issues like wrong overclock, no video signal and seeing the "reboot and select proper boot drive" in your d...
nvm my dumbass was pressing that thing
the battery itself?
ok its out
now wait at least a minute so it will reset the bios after the capacitors run out of power
the thing u circled i was pushing it down
ok so now i put it back in and turn on my pc?
yeah and make sure everything is connected properly
still doesnt work
btw what was the clicking noise when u turned it on?
i guess your power supply failed
sounds like something blocking the fan
what would block the psu fan?
well i am not saying its the psu fan, i am saying the sound sounds like if the fan hits a cable.
thhis has happened before and it fixed itself over a couple of hours
i wouldnt be surprised if it was the power supply it makes a weird noise sometimes when i plug the power cable in
like some spark idk how to describe it
got any spare to test ?
nope
let me guess you cheaped out on the psu 😄
i've been reading about it, your power supply can't provide enough power or it failed
this pc was prebuilt
all i did is change from a gt 710 to a gtx 1050ti
yeah it does look like minsu is correct.
that was a couple of years ago tho
how many watts is your psu?
just a reminder : Do not attempt to open power supply, the capacitors can kill you
500
Something i would do
well you def should not, even professionals rarely do it 🙂
minimum psu requirement is 300w so in most cases it failed
i would try another psu, they are not as expensive, get one that is high quality tho. We can help you with that.
Even if it is something else in the end, the crackling sound is not good when you plug it in, so replacing it is a good idea either way
i would rather buy a new pc, not worth upgrading this piece of shit
a cheap psu also can kill other parts of your pc
yeah it does look a tad old 😄
i assume you do not want to build it yourself ?
let us see that power supply
i dont mind but money is mainly the problem
yeah noname crap not even 80plus
@indigo mauvehold on what country do u live in?
uk
i am visiting in may 🙂
if you let me know your budget i can recommend some parts, its also important to know what you intend to use it for. That greatly changes parts in the end
i know this gpu sucks but i dont wanna waste the money i spent on it
but i literally have i5 2400 and only 8gb ram
gpu ? what gpu ?
gtx 1050ti
well depending on what you intend to do with it you can keep it
you dont need to get everything new ofc
once you buy a great power supply you wouldn't need to upgrade it for up to 10 years so never be cheap on it because it'll last a long time
the most important thing is psu, and if you want to upgrade, then mainboard and cpu
yeah NEVER cheap out on the power supply
it was a prebuilt from ebay i didnt really know anything then
because like i said a cheap one can kill your entire system, happend to me once as well
cheap power supply = Capacitors bomb
yeah that as well.
for how much?
i hate how this thread turned from me trying to turn on my pc to now looking to get a new one
so if you for now only want to get a power supply you can get some for around 50 pounds, maybe even cheaper
well you dont need to buy a new one, you do however need a new power supply
eh i migjt just build my own pc
just not sure if i wanna keep anything from this pc
well like i said, then you can give us budget and we find you parts
if you want to only replace psu: https://www.scan.co.uk/products/500w-evga-w2-80plus-atx-fully-wired-single-rail-40a-plus-12v-1x-120mm-sleeve-bearing-fan-atx-psu
the gpu is decent so maybe u can use it until u can afford a good gpu
EVGA is a good brand, and 40 pounds is totally fine
i mean would 300 pounds help upgrade something good
what's that pc cpu and ram?
i have i5 2400 and i dont know what ram it is but its 8gb
thats from scan.co.uk 259 pounds without power supply
if you add the power supply and add your gpu, then that should do it for now
the cpu is around 15% faster than yours, the ram is ofc double the amount
soi would say thats a good one to go for
for that budget
Avoid that power supply if you can, that is terrible
Use this as a reference for getting a new psu https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/
well its better than what he has now and he is on a tight budget
that's a trash if you're trying to play games
i would personally get a better one as well, but it at least wont blow up
I'd rather spend extra on a good power supply then saving 20$ and loosing 400$ of equipment if the psu fails. Not saying that psu will fail but it's not a good psu
i know ive been having to use geforce now
yeah no way evga fails with gold rating
the shit part is that its not modular
my old pc is i5-3470 and gtx960 but the gpu fan broke
fortnite was running pretty good on mid settings
Gold rating is an energy efficiency standard that has nothing to do with the quality of the power supply. Just because its a known brand doesn't make the psu good.
and you are correct, and like i said i would get a higher one as well, if he has the money then ofc go for it, but its unlikely at least for a good brand to fail for normal load.
Now i am compairing it to his chinese noname psu
i personally usually only get bequiet or corsair psus
they are however also usually double the cost
what if the psu isnt the problem
well it is most likely the problem, but since you do not seem to get power to your mainboard (your mouse would turn on and lights etc.) we cant diagnose it. Mainboards usually have error code displays or leds as well
the sound you got is def not good, and i would not try to turn on the pc more often if you want to save at least the gpu
the gpu is important so take it off
how do i know its not already gone
and i just saw a guy who replaced his psu and the SATA cable is somehow melting
well i sent you my recommendation for parts for around 300 pounds, @novel hazel is also correct i would get a more expensive power supply, but that would get you over your 300 pounds. With the one i posted you, it should not fail tho, its always good to get higher quality ones, so if you can afford to spend a tiny bit more, i would do it
you dont unless you have a second pc
but gpus usually survive psu fails in my experience
not always, but my mums psu failed as well, and there it was fine
and on mine back in the day it was also fine.
mainboard and cpu on the other hand^^
im not rrally confident at installing motherboards as i’ve never done it before
i dont know if itll fit my case or soemthing doesnt go right
just use https://pcpartpicker.com/
it will help you
the one i posted to you is micro atx, it will fit
also building your first pc can be hard for the first time but don't worry and make sure you watch some tutorials on youtube
and read the manuals
yeah and also you will realize how muchh fun it is and how proud you are after your first build
you might need some thermal paste not sure the set comes with paste, its also possible they already have it assembled in the set. If you do get that, you can ofc get other parts.
and remember when you start building you can always come back here in discord
well im glad my pc broke down 7 days before my birthday
ALSO don't buy a cheap thermal paste, a decent one will be enough
noctua or thermal grizzly paste always good choice
to be fair the stock amd cooler usually comes with paste already on the cooler
thought it all came together
well i dont order from uk site i live in germany i have no idea 🙂
i think it will tbh, because its a set thing, but even if it does not, you can put it together
especially amd cpus am4 are very easy to install
LGA sockets are a bit harder and easier to mess up and bend a pin
@silver steeple @thick thistle
update
i took out my ram
put it back in
keyboard and mouse now lights up
monitor doesnt
ah i forgot gpu
guess my pc lives for another day
blue screen immediately
once turnign on
what does the bluescreen error say
If it works great. But keep in mind you still have that sound on your psu. So don't just ignore it.
