Hey, thats awesome, its a functional PC, made on the strictist of budgets/free. Great start @hollow musk !

Is that gpu an r9 270?

Salvage PCs are fun. Even if they aren’t the most powerful, they can punch above their price point quite well if done effectively! Best of luck making the most of it!

Also relatively speaking this is not a bad system at all
Like dude you can probably run fh4 on low or med settings.. for some people its a huge privilege just to run games at all.. that was my reality just a few short years ago at least.
Sure the gpu isnt supported anymore and the cpu is really starting to show its age, not to mention the ketchup and mustard cables
but that doesn't change the fact that these components are way better being used by someone than left to slowly decompose in a pile of e-waste
I love to see old systems and components like this going strong!

That is what I was trying to say in my own accusatory idiotic way

cost me a total of $200

formal bear

Damn, that's a good value

The gpu is an old sapphire radeon hd 7850 oc 2gb

ornate marten
#

Have you benchmarked it?

formal bear
#

That’s old, but I’m sure it’s possible to squeeze something out of it until it can be replaced later

#

Still it’s impressive for $200!

Ill upgrade the cpu to an i5 6500k. im $15 off getting it atm

Personally ide either save up for a bit upgrade to a newer platform entirely, or try to find a 6700k for ~$40-50usd then get some perforated pci slot covers and try to find some arctic p12's or noctua fans for cheap. at boost the hyper 212 should theoretically be able to handle it although it might run a little hot

That said a 65 or 600k (or a platform upgrade) are much more sensible options if you don't want to have to deal with airflow optimizations and spending more money than you have to just to find out you probably need to underclock a bit.

#

Btw the 6500k doesn't exist I dont think

#

Also my rule of thumb with planform upgrades are: buy low end cpu for chipset > upgrade to high or highest end eventually..
Or buy mid or upper midrange cpu then don't upgrade unless you're going to a new platform
