#New CPU causing pc to shut off

I just upgraded from a Ryzen 5 2600 to a Ryzen 5 5600x. To do that, I had to upgrade my A320M-HDV R4.0 bios. Now that I have everything installed and updated, my PC keeps crashing at random times. I don't get a BSOD, just an instant shutdown to black screen.

Here are my specs:
GPU: GeForce GTX 1660
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600x
PSU: EVGA 80 plus 500W
MB: A320M-HDV R4.0
RAM: T-Create 32gb 3200mhz

The 1660 only uses 120 watts max, and the CPU uses around 65 watts so my PSU shouldn't be an issue.
The CPU temperature averages around 60 degrees, even while gaming so that shouldn't be an issue.
I ran the built in memory diagnostics on my RAM and it came back with no errors.
My MB ram speed maxes at 3200mhz so I have my RAM set a little below to avoid any issues. (Had it set to AUTO and the crashes still happened)
Event Viewer shows the Kernel Power 41 error after every crash.
My MB is updated to the latest BIOS version.

These crashes didn't happen before I upgraded my CPU.

Noted change your psu. 500 watt might be too low

#

As your cpu is a nice calculator it needs more power as your former cpu

ancient tide
#

Yeah great psu trips your wattage yes

patent shell
#

I'm not sure what that means

ancient tide
patent shell
#

I guess I'll look at a new psu

#

Don't have the money but oh well

pseudo glen
#

Yeah, so with GPU's sometimes they can spike in power consumption and this trips the PSU, so its always a good call to get something which is more than you need for that extra head room.

#

a good 750 should do fine

patent shell
#

Well the weird thing is, I don't seem to crash with 1 ram stick installed

pseudo glen
#

oh?

#

Are you sure that is not just a coincidence though?

#

Like, are you able to reproduce the crash every time?

patent shell
#

Yea, I have no clue. I switched with one is in and both work fine solo.

patent shell
#

Correction, play valorant. Like get into a game

pseudo glen
#

Well that could be explained by removing 1 stick is keeping you under the PSU limit lol

#

hmm

patent shell
#

I mean, would 1 ram stick make that big of a difference though?

#

It's like 6 watts per 16gb?

#

Even then with cpus are rated at 65 watts and I don't overclock. I didn't have an issue beforehand but now I am

pseudo glen
#

well try removing the other ram stick and using the one you removed on its own

#

then we will see if its a bad ram stick, another thing you can try, is using the slot that you removed the stick from on its own too.

pseudo glen
#

Do you have a power monitor?

patent shell
pseudo glen
#

Its one of the things you plug in and it measures how much an appliance is pulling

#

I suspect you are very close to maxing out the PSU and even 1 stick of ram is enough to keep it under

#

Do you have anything else in your case that you don't need, lights etc?

patent shell
#

I do not

#

If the power is the issue, then a 600 watt should be fine since it's that close?

pseudo glen
#

600w should be fine, but if you are ever looking to upgrade later on then you gotta replace the PSU again and you will be spending more money again.

#

Where are you located, US, UK or?

patent shell
#

US

pseudo glen
#

ok, let me take a look on pcpartpicker

patent shell
#

Well, the CPU was a birthday present so I don't have any left over cash to use on an expensive psu so a 600 watt would have to be the best bet. Got one on amazon for $65, same day shipping

pseudo glen
#

What is the PSU?

patent shell
pseudo glen
#

650w one is $5 cheaper

#

lol, go for it

patent shell
#

This one

#

I don't know if I trust that one though lol

pseudo glen
#

Nah, don't buy that one, its not a trustworthy name

#

Its a bronze, so not the most efficient one.

patent shell
pseudo glen
#

There is a site somewhere that tells you the psu's to avoid, let me see if I can find it

#

What is your price range?

#

around $60 ?

patent shell
#

Yea

pseudo glen
#

ok

patent shell
#

But like I said, I would prefer same day so I don't have to go a week with 1 ram stick sitting out and all that

pseudo glen
#

ok

#

Does not look like a a great deal of choice around that price mark

patent shell
#

Let me take a look through it real quick

pseudo glen
#

The only good names I see are Corsair, Thermaltake, EVGA (what I currently use, 1000w one) (though only 500w), and Silverstone (also only 500w)

#

700w one for $54.99 too

patent shell
pseudo glen
#

I don't think its available on amazon though?

patent shell
#

It's in stock

pseudo glen
#

ok

patent shell
#

It's friday delivery but it's kinda worth since its 700 watt

pseudo glen
#

Tier E • Avoid

#

hmm

patent shell
#

Does it give a reasoning though?

pseudo glen
#

yeah, at the top of the page, tiering methodology

#

Its a well used page, just search it in this discord lol

patent shell
#

Interesting

#

Yea, I'm seeing lots of bad thinks about the 700w thermaltake

pseudo glen
#

Well even EVGA has very bad ones too.

#

But they also got high ends ones, so I don't think the name is everything, its more the price range.

#

If you are willing to spend $30 more, then you can get a high tier 600w one.

#

but it might also be worth looking for something 2nd hand

patent shell
pseudo glen
#

yeah, I mean, its something you would probably get away with

patent shell
#

I might just do that then

patent shell
pine plank
#

try to test your ram with memtest or any other ram testing tool

#

if its fine its either your cpu or mainboard beeing borked

pseudo glen
#

oh, glad you figured it out

patent shell
pseudo glen
#

yeah, no worries, sorry you bought a PSU without needing to though

#

Amazon will accept it back no problems, you got a month to do that
