Just wait prices will drop
The Rock 5 model B is certainly a beast, as far as ARM SBCs go.

just something random
I don't know if you need a raspberry pi for your use case. But if any other PC can work, see if you can get a small pc with a celeron n5105 or better. Those are quite a bit faster than a RPI.
Second hand Lenovo thinkcentres and and HP EliteDesk can also be worth it. Just make sure if you go Intel, to for gen 5 or higher so you can benefit from DDR4 ram.
Im using a Fujitsu Futro S720 for running Mainsail ( similar to octoprint ). I got it for around $15 with shipping included and I basically host my whole homelab on it. Consumption maxes out at 5 watts ( 2GB ram, some weird CPU ive never heard of ). Only downside is that you dont have some GPIO pins like on the RPI for connecting some sensors or stuff
i found a work around using an andriod phone to use octoprint
get an orange pi or rock pi (havent used but heard good things), also get straight to klipper, totally worth it
yeah an old laptop running linux mint desktop with communication over usb using kiauh works, i personally had an old 10yr old crappy dual core 2gb laptop and it works great 👍
honestly with how old it is, one of my original rpis wouldve been better maybe lol
Another option is running Octoprint in a docker container. It has worked flawlessly for me for about 2 years now. It fits my use case as my printer is in the same rack as my server.
ah, good idea aswell, im not as experienced with networking since im 15, live with my parents, and am not allowed to expose our network in any way for obv reasons, ig cloudflares tunneling would be an option to maintain a website or server tho
kind of off topic to the post sry
just trying to point out that although im not experienced with docker, from what ik its not a bad idea
I agree with moving to klipper. 100% worth it. Can also run fluidd and mainsail from docker
