#PSU/Performance Sanity Check

I kinda feel like I'm going a little nuts.

I recently threw in a new PSU because it was clearly failing (see my post from yesterday). However, soon after I upgraded, I realized that I got a significant performance boost. I'm not gonna throw in the old PSU to confirm this, but is this expected, is there something afoot, or has quarantine finally done my head in?

Thanks to all in advance for the sanity check.

Can you link your previous post or do I need to go digging for it?

i7-4790k with a 6750 XT, and I just replaced my 7-yo 750W Corsair PSU with an EVGA SuperNOVA of the same wattage

Alright so, the boost in performance is a bit of surprise, but there might be a reason for it.

#

So if the old psu was failing, it wasn't delivering a very clean and level voltage, so the cpu thought "hmm, this isn't a good time to do boosting", and now that you've switched a better psu, the cpu is happy to do boosting again.

And since it's a K series cpu on a Z series motherboard, the boosting is umm, significant. You'll notice.

Anyhoo, that's my take on it.

Kinda sounds like you're all good from here on, so happy gaming :)
